King George Fall Festival Parade Marshals Bob and Darlene Wernsman have been selected as the Grand. Marshals of the King George Fall Festival Parade and are also the guests of honor for this years's event. It is an honor well deserved by a couple who have devoted their lives to their country and their community. A Navy family for three decades, Bob and Darlene who celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this year, have raised three children while unselfishly offering their talents to projects to help improve the lives of King George residents. Bob helped start the King George Farmers Market, is a director of the King George Farm Bureau, commander of American Legion Post 89, has been involved in the Boy Scouts for 57 years and has been active in food drive efforts in King George as well as a project to obtain backpacks for King George school children. Darlene is a former president of the local AARP chapter, a former Cub Scout leader, serves on the Agricultural Extension Leadership Committee, is active with projects

In Celebration of 55 Years of Tradition

The Fall Festival is an opportunity for all the people in King George to come together for a time of fun and neighborly fellowship. It is an opportunity for all the organizations (civic, service, religious, fraternal and others) in the community to unite their efforts in a major project for the county. After keeping all the charges for events within range of family participation, if there is a profit, the proceeds of the Fall Festival are given to the Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

King George New King George business begins a new Fall Festival tradition Delaine and Rodney have devoted their careers to helping aspiring artists and will continue that effort Saturday as they oversee the King George Idol Contest as part of this years King George Fall Festival. "We were approached to do a showcase for King George during the Fall Festival. We accepted and were quite excited" said Delaine Richards. "We began auditions. The last one was October 6." "Currently we have approximately 25 contestants. They will be broken into two groups, the young teens 15 and under and the teenagers 16 and above. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner in each category. Each winner will receive a plaque and 1st place $100, 2nd place $50 and third place $25." "Each contestant will perform for approximately three minutes by stating their contestant number and the song they will be singing," Delaine Richards said. "We have 3 outstanding judges

– Didi Russell, CEO of VAWE Networking, Thomasina Perkins Washington Founder & CEO of Tru DIVA Production, LLC and Public Relation Representative for Josh Morgan (Redskins), Kurk Cousins (Redskins) and Kimberly Wiggins, CEO of the Blushfactor." "We have been doing talent management for 10 years. We began our journey when our oldest daughter Kiara began doing sports modeling and was photographed by Halsten out of Los Angeles. Then our son Rodney began working with agents in New York and Atlanta," Delaine Richards said. "During this time, we have gained a lot of industry knowledge, allies, colleagues we work with from other agencies, producers and artist. We began managing several talented models, actors and actresses and singers." "Madeline Broderson one of our models was 4th Runner up top model in the 2011 Miss Virginia

Junior Teen and she was on American Idol twice, "Delaine said. "We also work with singers to produce their first demo which includes original beats, lyrics, studio time and copyright. We work with them to get them use to performing then began sending their demos to radio stations and public relations representative for record labels." "We have other Idol events planned at other schools and plan to do one joint event that combines all the school in the summer of 2014. We also have an event planned for July 12th, a dinner showcase at the Fredericksburg Expo Center. It will be a Black/white event with dinner being served. Our guest speaker will be Stacy Lattisaw. She will speak, sing and do a book signing."

A Fall Festival 1st Tradition The barbecue at the Fall Festival Fair was a tradition for many years. Here is how the meat was prepared: How to cook Barbecue 1. Dig a 6foot deep pit 2. Start your fire to prepare the coals at midnight Thursday (use only hardwoods). 3. Tend fire all night to make sure it

does not go out and add more wood as needed. 4. Take 1400 lbs. of meat and season with garlic salt, salt and pepper. (Start at 9:00 a.m. Friday). Recommend 6-8 people to help in seasoning. 5. Noon, Friday prepare to put meat on coals. First wrap meat in cheesecloth and

burlap. Second, cover coals with 3 in. pea gravel. Third, put meat in pit, being sure not to touch the sides of the pit. Fourth, put steel plates over pit, overlapping plates. Fifth, add another 3 in. pea gravel Sixth, cover with plastic

6. Let simmer until 8:30 a.m. Saturday. 7. With containers standing by to hold the meat, uncover pit and check out your handiwork. (Of course, take temperature of meat several times during the process.)

King George The Taters to play at the KG Fall Festival

The Taters have been described as “Country rootspop with the genius songwriting of 60’s & 70’s powerpop, …a curious mix of Mavericks, Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison and The Beatles” (CDBaby). Billboard magazine calls it “American roots-rock with thoroughly modern, totally hip sensibilities”. No Depression magazine describes it like this:

“Think ‘Beatles For Sale’ if Marty Robbins were a primary influence instead of Carl Perkins.” The Washington Post says the Taters “Successfully combine the best elements of Buddy Holly with the vocal harmonies of the Everly Brothers.Part of the Bluemont family of performers.

The Taters Band is just one of many performers in the Bluemont family. Since 1976, the Bluemont Concert series has presented more than 5000 high quaity events to a combined audience of more than 2 milllion listeners in 68 communities in VA. Bluemont presents a wide variety of community events such as school concerts, workshops and assemblies; performances in hospitals and nursing homes; public concerts on the green; oldtime country dances, and special events around the region. These wonderful and affordable events have become part of the fabric of community life in communities throughout Virginia.

Chris Bryant & Made In The USA band to play Described as playing “dangerously accurate classic rock covers”, this band from Fredericksburg plays Classic rock from Asia to ZZ Top. They can play rock-n-roll hits spanning the decades from the 50’s through the 90’s, “Made in the USA” finds itself steeped in the classic rock genre of the 70’s. With songs that have three part harmony vocals to the more heavily driven guitar sounds, Made in the USA band will bring back the “good ole days” through their skills and expertise on the hits we all remember. For more information, and to listen to some of their music, visit madeintheusarockband. com today.

The Redskins Marching Band has become a Fall Festival tradition The King George Fall Festival has been a large part of the community since 1958. The Fall Festival is kicked off with an annual parade every year. The Redskins Marching Band has played an active role in the parade for the past three years. On Saturday, Oct. 12, will be their fourth year celebrating the Fall Festival with the King George Community. The King George Parks and Recreation Supervisor, Janine Paulsen, was looking to bring big bands and entertainment to the Fall Festival. Janine Paulsen met John White who had been coming to the Citizens Center for many years. She was discussing the possibility of obtaining the Redskins Marching Band for the Fall Festival Parade. Mr. John White chimed in and stated “My son Arthur White has been in the band for over thirty years”. Mr. White is also retired from the President’s Band. Once this conversation took place, Janine Paulsen was on the phone trying to make this happen and Mr. White was arranging transportation for the band. Manager for the band, Toni Cardenas has been one of the key contacts to work out logistics. Janine then made arrangements with the Vice President of NSWC Federal Credit Union, Charles R. Armstrong, to secure funding for the band and ever since, NSWC Federal Credit Union has been a proud sponsor for the Redskins Marching Band.

Love Thy Neighbor Love Thy Neighbor Community Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen is a ministry that was started by the leading of the Lord to do what He called us to do – Love our neighbors. God is sweeping through the county in beautiful ways! When people pray for help, He sends neighbors to help them. Our mission each month is to provide a hot meal with live music in an atmosphere of love and encouragement with free groceries for our guests to take home. We focus on food so folks in need can use their limited income for other necessities such as housing and utilities. We also deliver to shut-ins and those who are fighting illnesses. We are always in need of on-going and even one-time Food Drives. Can your business, family, neighborhood or organization do an on-going or one-time Food Drive to benefit your neighbors in need? The basic items we try to have each month are listed on our wish list. We’ve also started a campaign “Change For Change” to encourage everyone to collect their loose change at home, work or your local meetings and events to benefit Love Thy Neighbor as well. If you are interested, please clip this label for your collection jar today. Thank you to everyone who donates!

I Support: • Funding for Quality Education • Public Safety • A voice for those less fortunate and needing help in our community. • Economic Development to strengthen the tax base. • Project Faith and its mission and concept.

• A plan to replace landfill revenue once the landfill is closed. • Renovation of Ralph Bunche School for public use to include a county museum. • Wireless Authority Board members to be composed of citizens.

I Don’t Support: • Non-customers of Service Authority paying to help reduce debt service that would not be fair to non-customers. To contact me please call 24 hrs a day at (540) 226-2309 (cell), (540 - 775-9465 (home) or email me at cbfh98@verizon.net Paid for and authorized by Cedell Brooks, Jr.
