King George Fall festival Parade Grand Marshal
Fall festival Parade Guest of Honor
This year’s parade Grand Marshal is Tommy Burrell. Tommy is a lifelong resident of King George County with a deep love for his community. More than 40 years ago, Tommy began working in carpentry and built his business, Thomas M. Burrell, Inc., with a reputation for being fair and trustworthy, delivering quality work, and helping those in need. Although some of his work has been in surrounding areas, the vast majority has been here in King George and Tommy credits the people of King George County for keeping him in business all these years. Tommy is one of the founding members of the King George Builders Association and has served as its president many times over the past three decades. The Builders Association has always had a focus on charitable work and community outreach. Particularly notable, they built a house for Johnny Johnson, a paraplegic community resident. Not long after its inception, the Builders Association hosted its first Home Show. That first show, held at the Citizens Center, was started by Tommy Burrell and Ruth Herrink and included just 18 exhibitors. Since that time, the Home Show has become an annual event and has grown and evolved into a home and craft show. It outgrew the Citizens Center and first moved to the (new) King George Elementary School, then to the (new) King George High School. This year’s Home and Craft Show boasted more than 130 exhibitors. Tommy has served as the chairman of the show for many years and continues to work on growing the show while maintaining a county focus. The Builders Association uses the funds raised by the show to help those in need and give back to the community. Tommy first became involved with the Fall Festival committee when he began representing the Builders Association as a contributing organization to the festival. His role grew into co-chairman and eventually chairman in 2003. Over the past 13 years, Tommy has led the committee by embracing positive, forward thinking ideas while maintaining the historical community-focused mission of the Fall Festival. His success stems from his ability to garner cooperation from civic groups, members of the Chamber of Commerce, and county departments. Some of these include the Ruritans, the Optimist Club, King George Farm Bureau, the Lions Club, the KG Historical Society, the KG Family YMCA, DECA, The Journal, Union Bank, the Chamber of Commerce, King George Fire & Rescue, the KG Sheriff’s Office, KG Parks & Rec,
Patsy Godley began her singing career standing in front of her home stereo using a hairbrush for a microphone. She was accompanied by such greats as Peter, Paul and Mary, Leslie Gore, Ray Stevens and any other record she happened to play. She held family members, friends and anyone else captive as long as they would let her and would perform for hours if allowed. She still tries to do that as much as possible today. Patsy has sung many years in bands, but her most satisfying experience has been with her current band, Patsy & the Country Classics. She and a group of seasoned musicians got together in 2012 to play a “little traditional country music - and much to their delight found a very receptive audience. Patsy & the Country Classics has gone on to produce two CDs, with the first CD winning the National Traditional Country Music CD of the Year award. Patsy went on to win Ms. Virginia Senior in 2014, and then competed in Atlantic City in the Ms. Senior America Pageant and won that title as well. She is currently working full time as a government contractor as well as singing in her band, and sings and speaks at Ministry events whenever invited.
King George County Schools, the Board of Supervisors, and the County Administrator. Less than two months ago, Tommy underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery. Wanting to bring an awareness of heart disease and prevention to the people of King George, he has been working to bring mobile cardiac screening
facilities to this year’s Fall Festival. Tommy credits his accomplishments to the full backing of his family - his wife of 51 years, Catherine; his son and daughterin-law, Tommy and Anissa Burrell; his daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Dale Sisson; and his five grandchildren Bradley, Jenna, Kyle, Brittney and Trey.

King George Festival Committee members work hard all year
The King George Fall Festival (KGFF) is organized by a dedicated group of volunteers from local businesses, organizations, and County residents. You will see information throughout the program about some of our volunteers. Priscilla Owens Morgan – I am the Treasurer for the King George Fall Festival (KGFF) Committee. I started my involvement with the Fall Festival as treasurer in 1990. As well as being responsible for the Treasurer duties, collecting festival proceeds and paying the bills, keeping all the records, I have also been responsible for lining up dumpsites, port a potties, ,trash cans (the glamorous side of the job), selling ads for the program, and working with parade lineup. I got my inspiration to work with the fall festival from my mother, Joan Owens,, who was the committee secretary for many years. One of my most vivid memories as a child was my going the meetings with her at the old fire house, now King George tire. I have built good friendships with the folks that get together each month for meeting and give back to their hometown; seeing that the fall festival continues each year, bringing the community together like no other time during the year. It has been a privilege and an enjoyable adventure to work with the King George Fall Festival especially on festival day when it all comes together. Janine Paulsen - I joined the committee in 2003 to represent King George Parks and Recreation (P&R). I have worked on the committee for 13 years and 13 festivals. My duties include providing Entertainment and Logistics Support for the Festival. I served as Vice Chair and Committee member for several years. Dee Strauss - King George High School DECA Advisor, member of Fall Festival Committee since 2002. When I was first brought onto the Fall Festival Committee, my responsibility was the preparation and sales of the Bar-B-Que sandwiches and meals. I organized and mobilized DECA student members and adult helpers to make this happen for the festival attendees. Fast forward a decade +... now we invite food vendors to provide a variety of foods to our festival attendees. And I coordinate and mobilize DECA student members and other KGHS high school students to volunteer to help out with tables for the craft show, games and rides for the kids, unloading crafters' and vendors for the fair, cleaning tables, and just
Call Lori at 540709-7495 for all your personal and business printing needs
about anything else needed! This year, I have also been recruiting more food vendors and food trucks for our Fall Festival Fair. Lori Deem - I have been a KGFF Committee Member for over 10 years. I started helping Jalna Rasmussen with the parade logistics while a member of the Dahlgren Rescue Squad. The Squad and the KG Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) were responsible for the parade. I continued as parade coordinator after Jalna resigned, and worked the parade logistics until last year when KGVFD took that over. (I'm still consulting). I am responsible for organizing the parade judges by recruiting judges for the event,
along with ordering the parade awards. I have been the Craft/ Vendor Fair Coordinator since it was added as one of the KGFF events. I also help to publicize the event, and have acted as point of contact for information, forms, etc. I'm a go to person for most folks looking for answers Rhonda Breer - I have been a member of the KG Fall Festival Committee since 2010, and I have enjoyed being a part of the largest event in the county. I have been the Committee Secretary for the past 3 years, and the responsibilities include recording minutes during the monthly meetings, ensuring State and County dignitaries are invited to join the festivities and
creating Fall Festival flyers and signs. I have contributed to the Fall Festival Program by writing articles and selling ads, and am instrumental in organizing the Fall Festival Dance from 2010-2012. I look forward to being part of this wonderful event for years to come and contributing to its success each year. Wendi Dennison Wynn – Formally a KG Fall Festival (KGFF) Committee Member since 2009 and representative for the King George Farm Bureau. Prior to being a formal committee member I assisted my mother, Leola Dennison, with the Hospitality Room before the parade for over 10 years. I’ve held the office of
Secretary, Historian, and am the current KGFF Chairman. When my father, Wayne Dennison, was the KGFF Chairman I can remember going to KGFF Committee meetings and helping put the programs together. I have wonderful memories of the festival when I was young and the marching bands played after the parade on the football field at The Pit, before the awards were presented. My daughters Gracelynn and Wrayne assist me with the Hospitality Room and volunteer their time during the year. It’s become a Family Tradition! Bob Needy – I represent the Dahlgren Lions Club (DLC) as a member of the KG Fall Festival
(KGFF) Committee. As a KGFF Committee member, typically my responsibilities include “Fair Ground” vendor space assignments and monitoring. In addition as a DLC member, I assist in the food vending and fund raiser activity. Lastly, again as a DLC member I’m responsible for scheduling and manning the Lions Club District 4A “Sight and Hearing Van” FREE screening service provided during the KGFF Fair immediately following the parade at KGHS.
