I started this project with the intent to make a package that would challenge me. As I did my research I was really pulled towards bagel boxes they are large and have many panels that can have graphics all over. I found that bagel box would be a little to large for the ability on the in school printer has limitations. Going for a donut box template worked beater. I started sketches and really wanted to do bread and do it in a different way. Bring a character to life like many of my favorite products. Bear bread the first idea but didn’t make much since second concept and final Bert bread. Bread started as a joke my culinary friend Bert makes really good bread and I brought it to life because I would love to go to the store and buy it. I Did the logo to match Bert to the tee working off pictures. The box has recipe and special story to make you feel as if Bert him self made this product. Printing was interesting colors came out really dark but the printers took it in his hands because of a user error and fixed it to look just like my design. I am very pleased with the project I feel that when the POP comes around I can make many flavors and ad colors to make it pop.

As I journeyed threw the store I came across a lot of products that were very help full on the process of bring the project together lots of things I didn’t notice tell after we went over it in class. I knew that a die cut was the way to go since I was doing a box instead of a bag . I did this to give me the ability to show my product. I like the banners I saw also the emphases put on “whole grain” and the calories.

RESEARCH

4

Some of my favorite products have characters so for the Bert bread I wanted to bring Bert to life give his bread an identity that would be known in every house hold

RESEARCH

5

The original concept for Bert bread was bear bread it looked cool but I had no reason to make a bear bread I felt relating it to a real live person have it more charm but none the less the thought being it was to some how incorporate my own drawn type face with a mark such as a claw and wheat.

SKETCHES

6

The box was to modeled from a brick oven and the logo be carved in at the time of the sketching process it looked like it would work but after test prints it didn’t work out the back was going to be a cave but after doing some Bert bread sketches the baking bear idea went out. Ordinal concepts made Bert look super cartoon but the final rendering was matched after him personally keeping some concept ideas such as being behind a banner.

COLOR

The warm colors give the product a fresh baked feel makes you feel homie when you see the box and logo.

9

As stated before to give this product a true meaning and really get the home made old style bread feeling. Bert bread comes from Bert the baker him self I started with a good straight on photo of his and began to make him a identity.

LOGO

10

The Bert bread logo came together very smoothly after mid critique I got almost the same suggestions the make Bert more of a center point. So by making the oval around him larger ,choosing a warmer color scheme, taking the stroke of the type, and giving it a radial gradient it really gave it that food logo feeling.

LOGO

11

My classmates and professor Sordoni had a lot of great suggestions that I used to complete my package and will use in the future for the POP. • Work with banner • Work with line weight face getting over whelmed with black lines. • Gold and Burgundy color pallet class favorite • Use multiple loaves of bread for future • Make package BIG! • Try real Brick • Make circle bigger • Create an Angled Tray

MID CRITIQUE

12

I started the package with the idea to make a conventual box like a bagel box. Then did research to find the bagel box was a little to large and went with a backer style donut box. This box template didn’t work well for what I had in mind fro a design so I made my own revisions to make it more functional for print and graphics adding new tabs and panels made the box come together.

PACKAGE

13

After fixing the problems I made and addition mock up with color and found that I need to ad color on over lapping panels because the white was unsightly. Then on to the big print I used a plotter to print the full template it originally came out way to dark but I printed again with the help of the printer and they got it to match well with the original design . very pleased

PACKAGE

14

This box was very challenging to build because if the cuts were not perfect the box would not function. I started by printing then going to the art store buying some poster paper and spray mounting my template on it let dry and began to cut. I scored it as deep as I could so it wouldn’t crack but it still did in a few places. I used super glue to keep this heavy package together it worked great on the product window

TIMELINE

17

I started this project with the intent to make a POP that had not just had to look good but bring people in a feel everything they would get when they take the product home. I really thought out a large POP that would bring people in like a 55’ x 65’ display but that was not possible on my budget. I still went big and still spent a pretty penny. The POP ended up as a tabletop not a self-standing one that would be in the bread isle It really had to have the large logo like many POPs and had to be deep for many products. I also made Bert Bread a new line of products “Bert Bread muffins” I designed a new logo just going with the old one but using new elements to draw your eye in. The elements are these illustrative fruits that represent the flavors. For the construction I used the skills I learned in #D design and cut a large piece of foam core and did channel cuts then raped my images around it. I added a push button box for people to come over and interact with the POP a little jingle plays when it is pressed. All in all I wanted to do something that really brings you in and feel I accomplished that.

POP

STATEMENT

18

As I did my research I really didn’t want to do a table top for two reasons not only was everyone in the class doing that also I wanted a challenge. I really liked how a lot of my research POP had depth. I wanted to recreate depth with shelves. The big signs on all the POP are clearly the eye catcher.

POP

RESEARCH

19

A lot of the POP’s used creative bright graphics as interactive experience I wanted to add something different that I saw a long time ago “push button sound box”. This I felt could add more to my products home made experience.

POP

RESEARCH

20

The original sketches for the POP was drawn on a budget of a big corporation not a student. Because of this I had to rethink a lot of the size problems I had. But the contestant large sign had to be incorporated.

POP

SKETCHES

21

Not only did I have to create the POP I redesign Bert Bread for a muffin line. So adding the flavor active ingredient the “fruit to the logo seem like a good idea. I did a lot of math because I had to rap a large plotter print around channel cut foam core.

The added colors were used to create the fruit POP logos for the muffin packages.

23

For Bert Bread muffins I created the flavor as an icon that attached to the Bert Bread logo. Gives it a real attractive point for your eye.

MUFFIN LOGOS

24

Placing the push button sound box was not as hard as you may think all I did was take the dominations of the box then designed for it. When cutting the hole out I layed my print over and cut two lines and drew around the sound box cut out and glued simple as that. Cutting out Bert was hell it was a little bigger that my cutting board but I cut out section lines then cut around very slowly.

POP

CONSTRUCTION

25

Using the velcro the Mr. Sordoni idea for getting it in and out of the car. I was a great idea but the velcro I got was a lot stronger than I thought and bent my sign a tad. I made the muffin package a lot smaller so construction was a little difficult with my large fingers. I really like how the muffin box’s line up together.

POP

CONSTRUCTION

Brick oven opening houses and the muffins. Sound box sings a little jingle. Side panels tell you what you get Flavors, nutrition facts and other products offered. Big “Bert Bread logo. This all comes together to make a great POP.
