As members of the project team, we are dealing with the task of transforming an old military airstrip into a community park. Water, soil, biodiversity, and community relations are the focus of our design. In February, we came to Ghana for a field visit, updating the design, and conducted a number of on-site experiments.

Open up a factory, design a extraodinary space to not only enable the production routine continue but also allow visitors to path trhough the whole factory, gaining spectacular experience without disturbing the production is the main task here. Motion Capture is a tool to assist the design, to examine the movement of production and the movement of visitors.

Chiavari Chair was created in 1807 on the northwestern Italian coast,and become nowadays one of the most popular even chairs. The new satellite factory locates northwest Milan, and should not only bring the production back to the public, but also link the brand and citizens. The main task here is to design a spectacular journey through the production,engage the visitors with special spatial experience.

Motion Capture is a tool we use to assist the design process. Through recording the motion and transfering into digital 3d file, we can We can obtain more comprehensive data information. Base on the production motion, we can analyse the ergonomic behavior, duration of the production,thus we can apply design intervention, set an ideal position for visitor to engage the production. And the relationship between workers and visitors defines the spatial condition at each phase.

We separate the heavy production with noise and dust and light production with clean work environment, and create a smooth and open floorplan allow visitor and workers to walk freely in the space. Special processes are designed to attract the visitors and give stronger impression of the individual production.

Beside the visiting tour, at the end of the tour a exhibition space is introduced in the Factory.Exhibiting Boothes are telling the story of the history of different time period. And media columns symbols the forest, tells the story of the nature origin of the chair.

BUBBLE PLOTTER

Bubble Plotter is an analog painting machine base on the technology of axis pen plotter.The attachable soap water container will move according to the input G-code, and when I blow the air through the pipe connecting the container, the bubble would flow out and draw along the digital defined path. It is a machine, try to combine the two characters of digital plotter and analog drawing. So the result is unpredictable yet still keeps the trace of rigidness of machine drawing.

TAMALE AIRFIELD

Me with other member of Applied Foreign Affairs lab have been working on planning, landscape and design proposals for a soft transformation of the massive formal airfield site into a recreational space. The on-going project aims to bring together a material focus and landscaping design, with the aim of continuing to create environments for human and non-human co-existence from the micro to the macro scale.

Based on a long time investigation of the site and a certain understanding of seasoning nature factors and community reality, the airfield is divided into 5 zones, zone for terminal tower, zone for communal green runway, zone for market, zone for playground, zone for performance gateway.

The communal green runway is using mounted earth to create planting area for vegetation.For realization of the purposal, three planting island, as representitive part,were developed further, and outlined on the site to simulate the real construction situation. Base on the outlining, an applied seating placement was tested.

recycled tires and excavated out laterite are the main construction materials for the planting mount based on our understanding of construction reality in tamale. Several material investigations and 1:1 construction simulation were hold out.I played the main role for planning the experimentation, prototyping and communicating with local construction team.

Tamale Airfield is a continuous project request by the tamale community. We consciously not jump to design so quickly, rather carry out several physical and digital experiment to support the design process.Here concrete matts were experimented as potential material to form the organic topography.3D scanning technology is explored to capture the local plant species in ghana.

The project will continue into the detailing and actual construction phases. Also this project was invited to be exposed in the Rotterdam Architecture Biennale.

AGGREGATION

In this design I have experimented with the frictional force of different shapes. Primitives with different shapes can be stacked into different properties. In addition, I also try to play two characters of random and control. Aggregation of basic elements is completely uncontrolled, but I also have to fill in the volume 40x30x30cm with given setting. By adding some constraints I have brought the extremely free stacking of primitives into a relatively controlled form and can also form a void in the middle.

CITROEN MUSEUM

Based on the case study of Sydney Opera, the citroen museum focus on the layering and inbetween space to give diverse observation opportunity and wandering experience.

Surface Language and tectonic play heavy role to shape the space and experience for visitors.

Location: Generic

The sketch shows the onion structure of the museum. A glossy cocoon shape exhibiting hall place on the plinth with three floor, each floor gives visitor different experience to encounter the cocoon and the exhibiting citroen car. A flying canopy covers the cocoon, through reflection and transluscent materiality offers very rich passing experience.

KERFBENDING

Kerfbending is a way through cut out the material of the wood to make the wood pieces to bend much more easily. To achieve bending the wood muss have to sacrifice certain strength.

My goal is to realize the bending but still make the pieces even possible to be load bearing. The pillar structure I have invented can stretch in one direction and also possible to hold certain amont of load that commen kerfbending pieces could not hold.

Here is a new building for the State Archive of Baden-Württemberg in Karlsruhe. I have to focus on its ambivalent character: on the one hand,Archive is a hermetically sealed storage space. On the other hand, it is important for Archive serves as a public infrastructure.

The history of society is as heavy as treasure in a palace. And personal histories are as easy as flowers in a garden.

That‘s why I save the two types of memories separately, in different typologies. Official documents are kept in the “Memory Palace“ and personal data in the “Memory Garden“.

CONCRETE MODULE

seminar job is to design a concrete wall module and make a one-to-one model. Therefore, the characteristics of the cement itself and the design of the mold must be taken into account in advance when designing. In order to facilitate the cement to fully fill the inner space of the mold, I specially designed a spherical surface to facilitate the flow of liquid. The front and back of the module can also combine different patterns.

MICRO LIVING

The keywords of the design are two opposites: compact living and comfortable space. Poetic spaces should not be neglected. Therefore, Kazuo Shinohara’s Tanikawa House became the reference, and the digital fabrication with Robot enabled rapid construction.

This wooden hut is located on the hiking trail on the mountain in Austria. The PVT panel covers the electronic uses and the intentionally exposed structure is intended to evoke a certain nostagia emotion.

Space Type

The gabled roof has a strong presence. In type1, the windows are deliberately set for side light and bottom light, and the low space lets people feel the space only when sitting. A horizontal opening to the ground floor connects ground floor and ground floor spaces. The main room of the interior consists of a gabled roof and a branch-shaped supporting structure. It can be seen that the entire building presents an introverted state through the adjustment of the windows and the natural presence is conceptually enhanced through the appropriate isolation of the external environment.

The task is: from a basic cubature of 20x30x40cm, a room shell is to be conceived, built and folded. Locate and orientate the cubature. Cut openings in the base cubature, which are then folded out of the shell.

The goal is to try and get a new structure and shape by unfolding, cutting and rejoining the six sides of the square. The cracks on the skin are formed organically according to the shape instead of randomly opening like ordinary houses.
