Ward Wilson, Author 8

Ward Wilson, author of The Realist Case for Eliminating Nuclear Weapons, believes that we can eliminate nuclear weapons. Not because he’s an idealist, but because he is a realist. After thirty-five years of carefully re-examining the assumptions made about nuclear weapons during the Cold War, he’s convinced that those long-ago experts and government officials got it wrong. The assumptions they made (that still govern our policy today) were distorted by the fear and anxiety of the time. They exaggerate the importance of nuclear weapons, downplay the level of risk, and misrepresent the way the world really is.

Watch or listen #71 Brian Farr, Rotary Peace Builder #52

Brian Farr, past chair of Rotary Action Group for Peace, continues to work for peace and has created a primer for Rotary Peace Builder Clubs and anyone else interested in engaging others in peace building. He generously shares this document which can be accessed through the QR code below.

This document contains many inspiring and useful principles with reminders of the basics of peace. The following are merely a sample: “You may not be responsible for world peace, but you are responsible for your piece/peace (i.e. your piece of world peace and your own inner peace). “Lack of respect for freedom of belief and other basic rights and needs of others is one of the principle markers for violence in a society.”(Brian Grim, The Cost of Freedom Denied.) “Intergroup cohesion is the top indicator of peace in a society.” (Institute for Economics and Peace. “All humans are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.” – U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 1 “You simply cannot experience the full depth and richness of your own humanity without honoring the humanity of others.”
