Hermann Karl Hesse (Wikipedia) was a German-Swiss poet, novelist, and painter. His best-known works include Demian, Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, and The Glass Bead Game, each of which explores an individual's search for authenticity, self-knowledge, and spirituality. In 1946, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature, “for his inspired writings which, while growing in boldness and penetration, exemplify the classical humanitarian ideals and high qualities of style. As I was drawn into the writings of Hesse, I learned that he was a young person’s writer. Perhaps it has taken me a long time to grow young, but he speaks to my spirit.
