about
Being born, raised and schooled in between different countries, I have always needed movement and change to exist. Being exposed to different cultures has teased my curiosity to the world, my will to explore and discover. This has been the drive of my work throughout the years. An exploration of life through travel, comfort and pleasure, in design. Life itself and its beauty and simplicity has always been my greatest inspiration. Culture, people and the art of sharing knowledge has always seemed to me like the most valuable thing we have. Through my practice I wish for people to evade, to dream, to hope and to reconnect with themselves, others and their surrounding.

a place of comfort
This project was imagined as a way to reconnect with oneself, others and nature. It was a time in my personal life where this need became fundamental and I came to realize that many felt the same way.
The aim has been to create a place that conveyed those feelings to allow for complete serenity, a pause in the middle of the rest, a ray of sunshine...
Before the world suddenly stopped, time seemed like the ultimate luxury. It was always running away, and more things always came to fill it. It made me suffocate. I wanted more time, there was so much to do, to see, to learn and it seemed like I couldn’t enjoy it at my pace, slowly. This need could have also been the result of something deeper, I lost someone very dear and I was looking for comfort, care, love and time.
...a hug from a loved one
The aim has been to create a place, real or fictional, to escape the daily, where comfort and simplicity are key. Here, those terms take shape in the form of togetherness, through food and the art of sharing, time, freedom, harmony with nature and the surrounding, and with love and care.
dinners at home
In order to create a “place of comfort”, I have started hosting dinners. Dinners with strangers and friends where everyone would feel at home, cared for and comfortable. It was meant to be a pleasurable minute that didn’t demand anything in return, a moment to escape the habitual. Meeting strangers enables us to get out of our confort zone, something our generation is too often scared of. It opened a window on essential values; curiosity and discoveries, the act of sharing, the developpement of ideas and ideals... This allowed for a certain reconnection to oneself and others, and through food, to nature. Those dinners weren’t the answer to everything but for a split second,
they allowed for an escape. This state of hope and connection has always been, to a certain extand, the aim of life, from my perspective.
New York seemed like the perfect setting, everyone was new to the city and curious about others and eager to learn from each other, it is a crossing point between so many cultures, arts, and professions, New York makes one want to live, and this is what I was looking for. I wanted everyone to play the game, to actually want to come to dinner at a stranger’s place, to be open to a new setting. The rule was simple, each guest would bring someone new. The rest was for me to create; an object, linens, the food, the atmosphere...
Food was important as a way to reconnect with nature Every week before the dinner, I would plan the menu, and then go a quest to find the best around the city. I wanted this to have a meaning, not to be random and easy, I wanted to be fed by this experience, to discover the city as the same time.
The objects and linens, were a way, when I was lost, to reconnect with my studies and my story. I wanted to create something different for each of the dinners using textiles collected through my years in New York or brought back from France. Those were a way to explore and give.
remaking
With the aim of having the least waste possible, I started repurposing the linens and objects to create outfits. Those outfits were made to host dinners, in a way that answered to the thematic of comfort and simplicity while still remaining “chic. There were outfits with stories to be lived in. Outfits to host and play.
First look: a simple vest, a pair of shorts and hand-knitted pair of socks. The vest: made from table sets, originally created for the second dinner. The fabrics used to make the table sets came from a collection of scraps found at home and small cuts of liberty fabric. The shorts: The white linen comes from a piece of fabric used as a table cloth with the sets, and still has some spots of wine and food, the side trims are a table set as well. The socks: handknitted by my sister to pair with the look
This look is meant to be easy to wear, comfortable, breathy and playful.
Second look: a sixties “A shaped dress, in white linen, with broken pieces of plates sewn to it, hand knitted socks. Due to Covid-19, the production of the dress has been delayed, and to get a visual of it I have drawn the dress in movement. This dress has a similar purpose to the first look, to be able to move easily, to be breathy and playful, to remind of the dinners and the remain elegant. Due to the full opening in the center front the dress could turn into a vest.
Third look: a robe/vest/dress, white palazzo pants. The robe: this robe was inspired by a similar design of my mother’s, the fabric was a table cloth made for one of the dinners, the fabric was initially dyed and then block printed. The pants: those pants were made in the same table cloth as the shorts. This look is meant to be soft and elegant, it allows for movement and air, while remaining comfortable.
going places
At times, I have found myself looking for air, for newness, and I seem to only be finding it when in movement or, in transit. When I move, I escape.
Not being able to offer an itinerant place of comfort as I had imagined, I decided to create an “ideal” suitcase to escape, anywhere in the world, at any time. A suitcase made to measure to each person allowing for travel to most places around the world. Not much is needed to escape, explore, and all while remaining elegant. A suitcase made of essentials, adjustable to everyone’s needs.
white t-shirt jumper oversized men shirt trousers socks cuff links
Due to Covid-19, the photoshoot of those graments has not taken place yet, the photos will be uploaded as soon as possible
The suitcase itself: the outershell is made out of beeswaxed canvas, the lining in cotton or linen, depending on the person, handle is made out of leather filled with wool, the filling of the suitcase is in polycarbonate, a highly resistant type of plastic, all handstitched.
White t-shirt: made out of deadstock organic linen jersey, a sustainable fiber to grow no requiring much water.
Jumper: made out of 100% turkish merino wool, handkitted by members of a collective, RussianGrannies, empowering women by offering work to a highly skilled retired community in need of an income, and preserving handicraft in Russia.
Oversized men shirt: made out of deadstock cotton popeline, mao collar, double cuffs, light fabric, easy to move, relaxed style, inspired by a tailor made shirt for my father
Trousers: for women, made out of deadstock satin viscose, for men, made out of deadstock wool crepe. Both of those fabrics a fluid and allow for easy movement, as well as wearable both in summer and in winter
Socks: made out of 100% turkish merino wool, handkitted by members of a collective, RussianGrannies, empowering women by offering work to a highly skilled retired community in need of an income, and preserving handicraft in Russia.
Cuff links: made out of white beads and aventurine, a stone that helps reconnect with oneself, it brings luck and optimism and helps develop a sense of adventure. Values that are all at the center of this project.
Each of those suitcases has been made and adapted to the needs and measurements of 10 persons, one persons from each of the dinners. The suitcases will be send directly to each of the persons as soon as finalized and accompanied with a book on the making of the suitcase and recommendations on physical and mind travel.
Due to Covid-19 the realization of additional garments and accessories has been delayed.
To bring those garments to life, I have received the help of extraordinary people, my grandmother, “Poppy, a seamstress, Mark, four Russian knitters, Nadezhda Evgenieva, Nina Mikhailovna, Svetlana Valerivna, and Svetlana Nikolaevna.
