RE:

Discipline Code, Discipline Lesson and Parent/Behavioral Contract

Please review the current School Discipline Code. The Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention Measures (The Discipline Code) provides the foundation upon which schools can build a safe and secure learning environment for students to grow and develop to their maximum potential. The Regional Operation Center requires all teachers to review the Discipline Code with their student, teach the new Curriculum Lesson, and the Parent Letter and Behavioral Contract is the be signed by all parents. The P.S. 16 Administration has placed the highest priority on the importance of conducting a well planned, well thought out “Discipline Lesson” with your class. Please review the Discipline packet. This packet will include a Discipline Lesson, the new Discipline Code to go home with each student, and a teacher sign-off showing that each teacher has taught the lesson on a level appropriate with their students. What is expected: 1. Review the Discipline Code with your students; avoid “threatening” language and tones of voice. 2. The Discipline Lesson: Please establish a collaborative working atmosphere with your class while teaching this lesson. Execute this lesson through the Workshop Model. Please plan a well thought out lesson. Reflect on various ways that your approach to this topic will be taken seriously by all students. As always, your attention to this matter is appreciated. You may want to break up the lesson into several well planned mini-lessons. 3. Review the “Parent/Behavioral Contract” with students, which refer to the Discipline Code and Lesson. 4. Clearly point out all areas that required parent signature, and student signature. 5. Place the highest priority to the students on having the parents sign, and returning the tear off. Please make every effort to “Collect” all “Signed Tear-offs,” and keep on file for review in your classroom. 6. When all of the above is completed, each teacher will submit to your grade Supervisor, the completion form with teacher signature that your teacher obligation has been fulfilled. This has not been distributed as of yet.
