Coaching Staff Carl Ramsey Head Coach Carl Ramsey begins his fifth season as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Ozarks. Ramsey made the jump to his alma mater after building one of the top high school girl’s basketball programs in Arkansas. In just two years at Ozarks, Ramsey led the Lady Eagles to the playoffs and posted the program’s first winning record in nearly a decade. Ramsey orchestrated a seven-game improvement from his first season to his second. Ozarks ended the 2010-11 season with a 14-12 overall mark, the first winning record since 2001-2002. His 2010-2011 team was the top three-point shooting team in the conference and ninth-best in NCAA III, hitting nearly eight per game. His team also led the league in assists per game (17.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1). Four of his players earned Player of the Week honors during that season. In 2011-12, Ramsey guided the Lady Eagles to the playoffs again. He coached the ASC East Division Preseason Player of the Year and three All-Conference players in 2011-12. He has had a combined ten players earn AllConference honors and four earn All-Freshmen Team honors the past four years. Four players have been voted to the prestigious Academic All-America Team, and 21 of his players have been on the ASC All-Academic Team during his tenure. One player was named a national Academic All-American following the 2011-12 season. In 29 years at Lamar High School (Ark.), Ramsey posted a 660-227 (.744) overall record and led the program to eight state tournament appearances, including winning state titles in 1988 and 1991. Ramsey was voted the Conference Coach of the Year 10 times and was a five-time KARV Dream Team Coach of the Year honoree. In addition to his coaching career, he served as the school’s athletic director for 24 years. Ramsey received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Ozarks in 1979. Ramsey and his wife, Kathy, are the parents of one son and one daughter.

Jordyn Ferrell Assistant Coach Jordyn Ferrell begins her first year as the assistant women’s basketball coach. Ferrell, a native of West Fork, Ark., played two seasons at Ozarks, earning Capital One Academic All-District and All-Conference honors following the 2012-2013 season. She was a member of the American Southwest Conference All-Academic Team for the 2012-2013 season. Ferrell also excelled in cross country earning Capital One Academic All-District honors following the 2012 season. She is currently finishing her degree in physical education at Ozarks.
2013-2014 Outlook Head Women’s Basketball Coach Carl Ramsey has always had impressive outside shooting teams, but now the veteran coach has added imposing size to compliment the backcourt. It may be Ramsey’s tallest team since his arrival five years ago, and he plans to take full advantage of it. Four players – Taylor Farmer, Kindra Davis, RaShelle Goldman and Bryanna Moltz – are all taller than 6-feet. And, both Goldman and Moltz add another dynamic to the team as each can shoot from long-range. “We have more size than we have had in the past,” said Ramsey. “We have some taller players that can shoot the three-pointer as well as our guards. They are not the typical players that postup inside. I think this creates some match-up problems against our opponents. It gives us a chance to be more flexible on offense.” Ozarks returns three starters and a number of others who saw significant action a year ago. Farmer, a junior, is the team’s top returning scorer (12.6). Farmer also averaged 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. Davis, a senior, started in all 25 games last season and was the team-leader in rebounds per game (8.0). Davis was especially dominant on the defensive end, pulling down 147 total defensive rebounds. Tamara Wilkett, a senior guard, started 24 games and scored 7.8 points per game. Wilkett is among the team’s top three-point shooting threats as she hit 24-of-73 (32.9%) from beyond the arc. Under Ramsey, Ozarks has always been among the top shooting teams in the American Southwest Conference. Last season, the Lady Eagles led the conference in three-point shooting (32%), and were in the top-5 in field goal percentage and free throw percentage. This year should be no different. “We try to take good shots,” said Ramsey. “We want to be disciplined enough to get shots for people who can shoot in certain spots. Good shooters can take bad shots so it is important that they take shots in the right spots.” The guard rotation will be by committee early in the season, according to Ramsey. Ramsey does have a number of players to use, including sophomores Jordana Andrews, Libby Nepivoda and Ashley Hipps. Additionally, juniors Annabel Fidler and Jessica Milloway as well as freshman Anisha Johnson will play on the perimeter. Forward Shawnee Sorensen is back for her junior season and is another player expected to push for playing time.
Taylor Farmer “I think it will be guard by committee to begin the season,” said Ramsey. “Ashley and Anisha can play the point. Jordana can play the two guard or point. Jessica is working hard and getting better every day. Bryanna is as good a three-point shooter as we have. It may be more important who finishes the game rather than who starts it.” Ramsey does feel that the guard positions are somewhat inexperienced. “We don’t have a lot of experience at the guard spot,” he said. “We have several players that we are going to give a chance.” The team is full of role players and Ramsey believes it is imperative that someone steps forward during the season. “We want people to understand what their roles are,” he said. “I think what we have on this team are a lot of role players. I’ve got to wait and see who will step forward and become the go to player. It is important from a leadership standpoint, too. I feel like we have some quality players and quality depth. There is a lot of room for growth with this team.” Ozarks did not make the playoffs last season after finishing 11-14 overall and 7-12 in the ASC. Due to changes within the ASC, there will no longer be an East and West Division for the 2013-2014 season. Instead, the divisions have been combined and all 12 teams will play each other at home and on the road, with the top eight teams qualifying for the playoffs. Mississippi College is on the schedule, but is not eligible for post-season play due to its reclassification to NCAA Division II. “It is special when you make the playoffs,” said Ramsey. “We have to work hard every day to complete our goal of qualifying for the playoffs. I think with the new format every game is important. I think it will be even more competitive. Every night we must play like it is a tournament game.”

American Southwest Conference The American Southwest Conference, one of the largest intercollegiate athletic conferences in NCAA Division III, is in its second decade of providing quality athletic experiences for its student-athletes, coaches and administrators. Founded in May 1996 to provide a structure for intercollegiate athletics among member institutions, the American Southwest Conference includes former members of the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association (TIAA) and other institutions from outside the Texas borders. From the eight founding institutions to today’s present group of 12 colleges and universities, the ASC encompasses institutions sharing similar educational and athletic philosophies. The roster of American Southwest Conference members includes Concordia University Texas, East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, LeTourneau University, Louisiana College, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mississippi College, University of the Ozarks, Sul Ross State University, University of Texas at Dallas and University of Texas at Tyler. ASC championships are conducted in 16 sports (8 men, 8 women). Men’s championships are offered in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and track and field. Women’s championships are offered in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. The American Southwest Conference is headquartered in Richardson, Texas.

University of the Ozarks UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS has approached education with an unyielding search for truth. That search led our founders to establish the first co-educational college west of the Mississippi. It set the stage for the first Arkansas woman to receive a college degree. And because truth often defies convention, ours was the first historically white college in the state to admit AfricanAmericans. Every day, our history inspires Ozarks students to discover their own individual truths.
