WELCOME Marketing Director’s Welcome On behalf of the Sunshine Coast District Bowls Association and all of our member clubs, we welcome all bowlers and visitors to our 2021 Winter Bowls Carnival. This will be the 58th year our Carnival has been running. Hopefully after the cancellation of last year’s event we will see International and Interstate border openings that will allow all of our regular visitors to visit the Sunshine Coast and enjoy our Winter of Bowls. We continue to be impressed by the calibre of bowlers playing in these events, which are designed to cater for bowlers of all levels so that the chances of doing well are enhanced as much as possible. We are continually trying different events based on feedback from those who participate and this is reflected in the number of events and combinations. You will not only be able to play bowls but, also have the time and opportunity to visit the many places of interest within our region.

The Sunshine Coast Clubs which host our Carnival events are among the best in Queensland and their greens should be at their finest during the carnival season. We encourage you to read up on all the competitions in our booklet and on the website, particularly those run by our member clubs. We are grateful to our many sponsors, particularly our major sponsor ‘The Sunshine Coast Council’, the Maroochy RSL, as well as all the others mentioned in this booklet. We look forward to catching up with those who are returning this year and to new entrants and visitors. As you may have experienced last time we played, many of the events filled very quickly and we encourage you to register your interest as early as possible. We wish you every success and enjoyment during the carnival season. Tim Phillips SCDMBA Winter Carnival Marketing Director

Mayoral Message The Sunshine Coast welcomes back bowlers and their families and friends to the 58th annual Sunshine Coast Winter Bowls Carnival. A highlight on our events calendar, Sunshine Coast Council is pleased to sponsor such a popular event in our healthy, smart, creative region. COVID bowled us all quite the ‘blocker’ last year and the 2020 event cancellation makes this year’s event something to look forward to and appreciate more than ever. During your stay, our Sunshine Coast has plenty of offerings of local produce, craft beer, fine cuisine and seafood to tempt your tastebuds. Make sure you take some time to walk our coastal pathway alongside our pristine beaches, drive our wonderful hinterland, and visit our many attractions. The Sunshine Coast’s beautiful winter weather is the perfect setting for another memorable celebration of bowls, full of great competition and friendship. 2

With best regards Mark Jamieson Mayor

Eat like a local

Craft Beer Scene

Get a real taste of local produce with the Sunshine Coast market scene. Eumundi heads the list of market destinations on the Sunshine Coast, with the whole town revolving around the market held every Wednesday and Saturday. Other outstanding foodie markets include Nights on Ocean St, Kawana Farmers Market, Yandina Market, Cotton Tree Market and Caloundra Street Fair, which is always vibrant and buzzing with delicious, local produce.

Now considered amongst the best in Australia, the Coast’s craft breweries, found in picturesque locations along the coast and in the hinterland, have become attractions. The region now boasts 12 innovators who brew on site including the award-winning Moffat Beach Brewing Co, Brouhaha Brewery, Macleod Brewing Co and Sunshine Coast Brewery as well as the renowned Eumundi Brewery and Your Mates Brewing Co. The coast’s brewers have built close relationships with local farmers, recycling spent grain for cattle, and sourcing local fruit and produce for distinctive seasonal beers. Why not take a craft beer brewery tour of the Sunshine Coast while you are here?

Fresh Seafood Mooloolaba is the biggest swordfish port in Australia and is one of the busiest seafood ports on the eastern seaboard. The wharf is a hive of daily activity with trawlers bringing in boatloads of swordfish, the famous Mooloolaba prawns, lobsters and spanner crabs.
