From My Desk After a wonderful quiet Easter break it’s all hands back to work. We are all very refreshed and pleased to have had the time out. We all got to see our part of the Queens Baton Relay as it wound its way to the Gold Coast. It’s a pretty exciting time all round.

My darling Dad turns 84 this month. He has always been the most wonderfully supportive father, encouraging my sisters and I towards anything that would make us happy. Although he is not very well these days he has had a very interesting and adventurous life and I think we all aspired to emulate Mum and Dad’s happiness and success. As a young man from Boonah he went from farm work to mining in Mt Isa before going into their own businesses. They both showed so much courage on their way to success.

His Mum lived in her own home until 96, so I think there’s a good chance he’ll be with us for quite a while still. Love you Dad and I’m so proud to be your daughter.

It’s been a huge couple of weeks in sport and the cricket scandal has dominated much of the headlines. Although very disappointing on many fronts, including the performance of the South Africans and their supporters, it’s not the end of the world. Nothing illegal happened, just gross stupidity and the young men involved will pay for their errors for the rest of their lives. We still talk about the underarm bowl against NZ all those years ago. They are obviously extremely disappointed in themselves and have shown remorse and are accepting the punishments from Cricket Australia.
