From My Desk It was wonderful to get some sunny weather between the rain this past week. I’ve finally turned the air conditioner off! It’ll be interesting to see how long that works for. Bring on the sun but not too hot please.

Another Anzac Day is upon us. I love how the community rallies and enjoys remembering and showing the younger generation our history. There are still many of us who remember the effects of war on our parents and grandparents including the toll that Vietnam took on our Veterans. I pray this day will still be sacred 200 years from now and beyond. Lest we forget.

This year in Caloundra by far the biggest and most moving Dawn Service will again be held at Kings Beach on the Sunshine Coast and will follow the same format as last year, commencing at 5.15am. The Sunshine Coast Anzac Day Dawn Service will consist of an opening address, Prayers, Guest Speaker, Laying of wreaths, and National Anthems, and is expected to be completed by 6.00am. The traditional gunfire breakfast will be served in the Caloundra RSL Services Club from 6.30am to 8am and is welcome to members, guests and visitors to the Sunshine Coast. Participants in the Citizens March to the RSL are asked to assemble in the Stockland Shopping Centre carpark at 8.30am. The march, via Oval Ave, Arthur St and Third Ave, will commence at 9.00am, and will be followed by a short wreath laying service in the RSL Memorial Garden for those not included in the Dawn Service.

It was great to hear that Steve Irwin is getting his own star on the walk of fame in Hollywood. It hardly seems like 11 years since his accident though I’m sure his family recalls every single day without him. They have done him proud and deserve to enjoy the day his Star is laid.

Well, that’s it from me again. Have a wonderful safe fortnight. Huge congratulations to Sian and Sharon Lacco on the birth of their new daughter. She’s a beauty! Take care and stay safe.
