Curating the ‘paw-fect’ resume > Aislinn Dwyer, REIQ.
As quirky as it sounds, a pet resume might get your rental application over the line, allowing your furry companion to move in with you. Submitted alongside your rental application, a pet resume can describe your pet in more detail, making it easier for landlords to say yes to your 10kg French Bulldog rather than imagining a 40kg German Shepherd. So, what exactly is a pet resume? And, what a ‘paw-fect’ one look like? First and foremost, save time by checking the property you’re applying for is advertised as ‘pet friendly.’ Agents and landlords do thorough background checks on applicants so it’s likely you’ll be caught out if you conveniently ‘forget to mention’ that you own a dog or a cat. Once you’ve found the perfect pet-friendly rental to apply for, it’s time to get creative and present a summary of your pet’s best qualities as well as your awareness of your responsibilities as a pet owner. Create a list of formal details about your pet, such as its breed, age, size and whether or not it’s de-sexed. If your pet has been registered with the Sunshine Coast City Council and microchipped by your local vet, mention this too. This section of the resume is also an opportunity to discuss your pet’s health and vaccination history. The next (and arguably, the most important) part of the resume should be a detailed description of your pet’s behaviour – particularly
