SMARTCLOUD Smart Cloud training/information sessions for sixth form students will take place during their assemblies. If we do not receive a reply we will contact your parents. It is particularly important that you attend as it will be an opportunity to discuss your progress. HELP & SUPPORT Help and support is always available to all of our students. There are a number of students that are receiving support with their organisation and time management. If you feel that you would benefit from this scheme please see Mrs Salt for further details SIXTH FORM SEPTEMBER 2011­03­11 If you know of anyone who is interested in joining our Sixth Form in September they need to contact Mrs Salt as soon as possible so that we can arrange a meeting to discuss subject choices. EPQ Report Deadline All students must have completed their EPQ report and production log and be ready to hand it in on Friday March 18th. If students require any support, please come and see Mr Tzellos at the earliest opportunity and utilise the EPQ Clinic session every Friday lunchtime in S3. EPQ Exhibition – Wednesday 30th March 17:00­19:00 in the Sixth Form Common Room Your Sixth Form colleagues who have undertaken an Extended Project invite you to attend the EPQ Exhibition. They have been busy all year planning, researching and writing up a project on a topic of their choice, including: ‘What are the long term effects of the BP oil spill?’, ‘What impact did the French Revolution have on fashion?’, ‘Where have the bees gone?’ and ‘Real life escapism: where do we draw the line?’ They would relish the opportunity to share with you details about the project process and their research findings. Mr Tzellos, EPQ Coordinator LIBRARY NEWS To celebrate World Book Day (3rd March) there are £1 book tokens available for students in Years 12 and 13. Please collect one from Mrs Salt or from the Library staff. The tokens are valid until 27th March and are limited to one per student and only one token per transaction. MOTIVATIONAL MASTER CLASS­ with guest speaker Derek Redmond The University of Hertfordshire, de­Havilland campus, 25 March 2011 ­ 9.45am – 14.30pm. This event is aimed at students from Year 9 to Year 13 including those pupils who have the potential to be gifted and/or talented and others whose teachers feel they would benefit from such an experience. YEAR 13 PSYCHOLOGY SEMINAR ­ Writing Excellent Essays & Improving Grades The Christine Brain is coming!!!! Wednesday 30/03/11 3:30 ­ 5:50 ­ venue tbc. Compulsory attendance for all This is an excellent opportunity for you to talk to the author of two of your core texts who has until recently been the chief examiner for A Level Psychology for Edexcel. She will cover Unit 4 issues and debates and essay writing skills with you, and for the last half an hour will go over the Unit 3 paper for any of you who need to retake (you'll know by the 10th!). Think of questions to ask and get them to me early ­ I can put them to her before she comes and she may be able to include them in her delivery ­ or simply answer it straight! Pizza ­ to get us through without grumbling stomachs we will ask for a £2 donation and we'll get the pizzas in before we start. PRIMARY SCHOOL HELP NEEDED Morgans Primary School is looking for some sixth form students to work with Reception and Year 1 classes next term. They would like help with a topic on 'Food'. If you are interested then please come and see me or email me and I will arrange it with Morgans. Thank you, Miss Baynham UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE: YEAR 12 SUBJECT MASTERCLASSES We would like to invite you and your students to apply to attend our new Subject Masterclasses, an aspiration­raising initiative aimed at academically able Year 12 students. Subject Masterclasses are large­scale events which provide participants with the opportunity to explore both arts and science­based subjects that they are interested in studying at University and may not previously have experienced. The day includes two or three lectures and subject sessions, an introduction to the admissions process, and the chance to hear about student life from a current undergraduate student. The days run on selected Saturdays from March to September. There are approximately 150 places for each masterclass, and a £10 charge per class (a percentage of free places are available for those in receipt of EMA).
