On another note…. News from the Simon Balle Music Department
The term has started very well, and over ⅓ of Year 7 are learning an instrument, which is fantastic news. Indeed, everyone keeps telling me how keen and friendly they are! Rehearsals are in full flow, and concert dates have now been published. They can be found here. (do click on this link). The main concert this term is on Tuesday 14th November at the Spotlight Theatre in Broxbourne (the Civic Hall). However, there are many other dates to look at! Last July we had our first summer concert at the Saffron Hall, an amazing venue. Once again in 2018 we will be returning, and the date is Sunday 1st July. If you were not able to be there last year, you missed out, so book the date now. It is an inspirational place to perform. If you are a new member of our musical family, do please take time to look at our music website. https://simonballemusicparents.wordpress.com/. Here are all the links of information about lessons, how you can help musicians learn and other news about our music. It also has details of our weekly rehearsal schedule. This term Year 2 start their String Training Programme. The violins and cellos have arrived and are currently being set up, so we hope to start in a couple of weeks. There will be two 15 minute lessons per week, so that the learning is supported in small bites. Parents will be given information as to how to help the children learn, so that we can start preparing for the first performance in December. The Larch Centre choir will also start this term. On the inset day on 25th September, many of our woodwind and brass students will be working with Jeffery Wilson from the Guildhall. He will be looking at how to improvise, working with a rhythm section to support our musicians. The Big Band are part of this day, as they develop as an ensemble following senior musicians leaving in the summer. The Concert Band also are fortunate on Monday 16th October to have a visit from The Band of the Parachute Regiment who are based in Colchester. It was a fantastic day last year and I am delighted they are returning. Finally, below are some of our exam results from last term. They are fabulous and still well worth celebrating. Do have a look at them! Keep enjoying the music! Mark Taylor, Director of Music Simon Balle Music Department Mangrove Road Hertford SG13 8AJ 01992 410408
