The past & present Originally named ‘British Railways House’ and built to provide British Railways with administrative offices, City House was built in 1962 and designed by Yorkshire architect John Poulson, who also designed Leeds International Swimming Pool as well as many other railway stations.

Standing tall above Leeds city station, the building is a prominent feature of the city skyline, particularly for visitors arriving by rail and the main road arteries from the South. The building consists of a reinforced concrete frame arranged over ground with 13 upper floors and together with 79 dedicated car parking spaces, 61 are within the railway arches which will be connected to the building by a new lift. The main entrance is on New Station Street adjacent to Marks & Spencer’s and only a few metres from the main entrance to the South concourse of Leeds city train station. and overall ground floor experience of New Station Street in addition to wider station improvements. The property was previously served by 4 lifts at the central core with wings of a similar size. All floors and reception have been stripped back to a shell condition leaving a blank canvas for future development. This brochure provides a journey through the history to current day and our visions for the future to recycle this landmark building.

The location City House is an outstanding landmark building, situated in the heart of the city centre, directly above Leeds train station. A stone’s throw from City Square, City House occupies a prominent position with all the amenities of the city centre on the doorstep. Occupiers in the immediate vicinity include DLA, Drivers Jonas Deloitte, Pinsent Masons, BT, KPMG, Addleshaw Goddard, The Queens and Hilton hotels.

The example layout shown here demonstrates how one of the top floors at City House can be organised to create an effective working environment. This is an indicative way of dividing up the floor space into a cellular configuration, but if you have specific requirements our in-house space planners can help by visualising alternative size and layout options to suit your business. As well as a personalised reception area, the floor plan provides a high number of private and stylish dedicated offices, which benefit from unrivalled panoramic views across Leeds. The Bruntwood difference At Bruntwood we take a very different approach to the classic property developer. Every time we buy a building, we put down roots. We see each and every property as an investment for the long-term, where every step of the acquisition, development, letting and management process is undertaken with the customer in mind. The combined years of experience within our in-house team means that we have an unparalleled knowledge of what it takes to deliver highly-effective finished buildings to the best quality standards. We can spot the potential that exists in parts of the urban fabric that many others may disregard. Our aim is to develop vibrant and well-functioning places that create the right environment for the success of our customers.
