Tracy, Bradley and their boys love a round of Adventure Golf
Making sure all guests have a great time gives Kay job satisfaction
SWEET SPOT
Tracy Ralph says a Center Parcs break gives her family fun and freedom, while Kay Durrant explains how we make our villages accessible for all guests
Tracy Ralph, Elveden guest If you asked my sons, Miller, aged nine, and Hudson, six, if they wanted to go abroad for their holidays or to Center Parcs, they’d always choose the latter. We’ve stayed at Elveden four times now. The children appreciate the freedom they get and love swimming, riding their bikes and trying out new activities. Adventure Golf and Footgolf – where you use your feet as clubs – are particular favourites.
In 2014, I contracted sepsis and had to have both my legs amputated below the knee; I also lost my fi ngers. That’s another reason Center Parcs is our happy place – it’s fantastic from an accessibility point of view. Elveden is spacious and fl at, and all the sta are friendly and welcoming. When I come here I see other people with disabilities and it fi lls me with confi dence. I often hire a trike and go cycling by myself – it’s so liberating.
My husband Bradley adores it here too. He sometimes worries about me so it’s nice for us all to be in a safe environment where we can relax as a family. It’s like a home from home for us. I recently got a pair of prosthetic aqua legs, which allow me to swim, and I can’t wait to try them out in the Subtropical Swimming Paradise – that’s next on my to-do list.
BOOK IT If you have accessibility needs, we can plan your stay to ensure complete comfort at all of our villages. Dedicated parking and ramps make getting to your accommodation easy. Lodges are open-plan with fully equipped kitchens that have lowered worktops, while spacious bedrooms feature electric beds and bathrooms boast walkin/wheel-in showers. In our Exclusive Adapted Lodges, you’ll fi nd hot tubs that have hoists, and saunas and steam rooms with wider access. Find out more at centerparcs.co.uk/ discover-center-parcs
Kay Durrant, Health and Safety Technician We always encourage people with additional needs to visit our site before their stay so they can get a feel for our set-up. Elveden is especially good for wheelchair users as it’s fl at and we have a range of accessible lodges and hotel rooms, featuring wider doorways and lower counters. Plus, we make sure all of our restaurants meet Disability Discrimination Act requirements.
Making everyone feel included and welcome is very important to us. If guests let us know their needs beforehand, we can gear particular activities towards them. For example, we can open up the roller rink especially for wheelchair users and their families – including lights and music, of course! We often get parties of children with disabilities visiting the village and it’s great to see how much they enjoy it.
I’ve worked at Center Parcs for 15 years and my favourite part is the amount of job satisfaction I get. Often, I’ll meet up with guests who I’ve taken around before their break. Over co ee they’ll tell me what a fantastic time they’re having. I also get lots of emails saying thank you. It’s lovely.
