Sever do Vouga has 500 years of history (Founded in 1514, april 29th). It´s a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 129.6 km² and a total population of 12 356 (2011) inhabitants, and 11,354 electors (2006). The municipality is a center of metalworking industry. The municipality is composed of 9 parishes, and is located in the District of Aveiro. It is included in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Aveiro.

Natural Resources Given the geo-climatic characteristics of the municipality which are associated with the ethno-cultural components of its peoples, you can discover a rich and inviting landscape, enjoying its scenery: the Cascata da Cabreia (Cabreia´s waterfalls) and clean and beautiful rivers all across the city. Public threshing-floors are also part of the scenario, together with colored village houses mixed with a green and very attractive landscape. Along the Vouga River there are numerous of sports and leisure activities: at any time of the year, ramblers can enjoy beautiful footpaths at the Ponte do Poço de Santiago (former railroad bridge) and also on mountain bike. Our nature cuisine is associated with history, people and endogenous ingredients, such as a variety of appreciated fish coming from our river, especially Lamprey; the roasted veal and oven backed rice are the most popular delicacy of the region. It is the “Blueberry Capital�, where you can find traditional delicacies such as our tasty local desserts, soups, bakery products, tea, liqueurs, ice cream, jam, cookies -the blueberry has a nutritional value indisputable, rich in vitamins and minerals, considered the king of antioxidants and youth fruit.

Handicraft and Historical legacy Expressed in the form of basketry, weaving, stonework, string instruments, cooperage and an ensemble of wooden miniatures. The Artisans House, located at the Local Government site, promotes these traditional forms of art. There are countless historical vestiges. Pre-Historic Art – in the form of the inscribed stone “Forno dos Mouros” (Moors Oven), in Silva Escura; the megalithic necropolises of Anta da Cerqueira, in Couto de Esteves; the Chão Redondo (round floor) and the Capela dos Mouros (Moors Chapel), in Talhadas; Roman Period – represented by the Roman Road, in Talhadas, connected the crossroads in Viseu and the Olisipo (Braga), between the 2nd and 4th centuries.
