KELOWNA With a population of 106,000 Kelowna is the largest city in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, which is located in the south central region of the province. The Okanagan Valley is located at the northern most end of the Sonora Desert and hence has a semi-arid climate, boasting long warm summers and short mild winters. Situated on the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake mid-way between Penticton in the south and Vernon in the north, Kelowna residents and tourists alike find the lake offers wonderful opportunities for boating, swimming or fishing. The nearby mountains attract hikers, skiers and outdoor enthusiasts of all descriptions. Three major ski hills are within an hour drive. Because of the beautiful scenery and abundance of tourist activity, Kelowna is one of the fastest growing cities in North America.

GRAPHICS

The natural beauty of Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley is the most noticeable thing for visitors arriving for the first time, and ultimately what they take away. The main supporting graphic of Kelowna International Airport are curving, parallel lines used to represent these landscapes “taking off and arriving. They can be used to break up a single photograph, or each line may contain a single photo in some instances. When used as a solid form these lines become more subtle as a transparent overlay on a single photo or solid color.

PHOTOGRAPHY THE ENVIRONMENT The primary source of imagery is the Okanagan Valley itself. Seasonal colors can be photographed to fit in with a particular color scheme. As Kelowna International Airport in very much dependant on the tourism industry of the Okanagan Valley, using beautiful imagery that expresses comfort or adventure is very important for the Airport’s overall message.

THE PEOPLE Using imagery of people in the airport or enjoying the outdoors is important in communicating the process of flying as comfortable and hassle-free. People used in the airport environment should appear to be relaxed and content. Outdoor shots should show people enjoying and interacting with nature.
