Leaving as leaders Club, campus leaders remember their duties, lessons learned

Natalie Twomey

“As president of Key Club, it is important for me to make sure every member and officer has their responsibilities in line. I feel like I am very firm as president, but at the same time I can joke around and be there for members if they need someone to talk to or need help with anything. I make it clear that I’m in charge, but at the same time I show that everyone’s opinions are welcomed. I hope next year they will lead by example like I have strived to do. I have been a Key Club member throughout all four years of my high school career. I was the vice president as a junior and I learned a lot of the ‘dos’ and ‘ do nots’. I felt like I was more than capable of running the Key Club because I’m a very responsible and organized student. Running the club hasn’t felt like a job because I love it so much.”

“I am president of FFA. As president, my responsibilities include presiding over meetings, appoint committees and serve on them, coordinateingthe activities of the Chapter, and represent the chapter in public relations. I decided to become president of the Carthage FFA Chapter because I absolutely love this organization and everything it stands for. The most important part of my job is getting everyone to work towards a common goal. I make sure that we’re all leading together and learning together. This job has developed my public speaking skills and my social skills emensely. It’s taught me that the best way to create leaders is by example. The main purpose of FFA is to make leaders and produce the most successful people the world has ever seen. and I’m proud to be leading this club.” Photo by Sophie Clakley

Easton Wilson “As president of our National Honor Society chapter, I hold the responsibility of leading our members to better serve our community. I strive to show others the ways we can improve our community by volunteering our time and help, while spreading positivity along the way. I believe it is my character and effort that pushes me to be the best of my ability as a leader. As president I am required to lead by example. I push each of the members in NHS to help others, as well as each other, and I step back and alllow our chapter to innovate. I decided to become president in order to improve my leadership qualities, and assist those who strive to do the same. By serving as president, I developed a better understanding of what it means to be a leader. Members look up to you and take action on your ideas. A good leader is destined to make mistakes; no one is perfect. I believe I have made an impact on those areound me.”

Chase Crawford

Cheston Malone

“I am president of the Technology Student Association (TSA) at our school. I’ve been doing TSA since the seventh grade and I decided to run for president because I felt like I could help the organization reach a higher level in competing. In order to be a good leader, you have to serve and volunteer as much as possible. I think I’m a good leader because I make it a point to lead by example. Before telling someone what to do, I show them how to do it myself. I’ve gained a lot of respect by being involved with the other members of TSA. As president, I have to organize all the meeitngs and cooridinate with Mr. Worley to see what we as a club need to prepare for in order to do well at upcoming competitions. I actually spent my entire spring break organizing things for our next competition. I’m the backbone of Carthage’s TSA organization, but I can’t do anything without

Pavan Bhakta “As president of Student Rotary Interact, my job is to make sure that the students stay active with fundraisers and continue making a difference in our community. I decided to become president of Rotary because it was my idea to begin the club over the summer and I also have strong leadership skills. I’m a good leader because I make sure everyone stays just as involved as I am in making our community better. This year we have organized everything from car washes to basketball tournaments to bake sales. All of our profits are directly donated to a charity of the club’s choice. Organizing events like these is a lot of hard work and I couldn’t do it without the rest of the members in the club. I enjoy being president because I know that I am making a difference and helping those in need. It’s a great feeling. I’m glad to have started a new club that will continue for years after I leave. It’s an honor to lead my peers my senior year.”

If you could start high school over, what would you do differently? “If I could start high school over, I would definitely try to be more outgoing. But otherwise, I’m pretty happy with my high school experience.”

-Chase Crawford Photo by Macie Bogenschutz

“I would spend less time stressing over th elittle things. I wouldn’t procrastinate as much as I did. Sometimes I would put off an assignment until the last second, and then stress myself out over it.”

-Gracie Bankhead

“I would study more. I would prepare myself better for tests and class assignments. And I would be more involved in school activiites participate in spirit week and stuff like that. I had fun doing [those things] my senior year, so I wish I had done it the other years too. ”

-A.J. Bowers Photo by Macie Bogenschutz

“If I could start high school over, I would have came to Carthage my freshman year. I still don’t feel like I’ve had enough time here.”

Kim Spradley It’s hard to believe that my years on Media Staff are coming to an end. Four years, ago I joined staff and honestly I remember it like yesterday. I had no idea then that this organization would have so much of an effect on my life. Mrs. Quick has been there for me through thick and thin, and high school wouldn’t have been the same without her. She has taught me so much, not only about yearbook, but also about myself. She helped me

grow into a more confident individual. I am so thankful for her and everything that she has done to help me through the last four years. A-6 has been my safe spot and the place where I spent the most time during my four years here. I’m thankful for the the knowledge that I have learned while being at CHS and I can’t wait to see how it helps me in my next chapter of life. I’m excited for my next adventure, but I’ll never forget my days in A-6.

Being on yearbook staff my sophomore through senior years has been a blessing. I’ve made memories that will last a lifetime. I’m definitely going to miss the endless gossip sessions, and the people on staff. The deadlines were kind of stressful, but it paid off when we saw how good our yearbook

was each year. I can’t thank Mrs. Quick enough for everything she has done for me while I’ve been in high school. I don’t even want to think about how hard it’s going to be to say goodbye to my yearbook family.

Farewells

Macie

Being part of the Media Staff has been one of my favorite parts about high school.

Bogenschutz From being on the sidelines

of Friday night football games to cramming during the beginning weeks of the summer trying to finish our book, the memories go on and on. Being Photo Editor of our staff my senior year has been such an honor, and I have learned so much. My passion for photography grew more than I would have ever expected it to and made me find my favorite hobby. Media Staff also gave me some of my best friends. Our staff, also known as the “A-6 Family,” shares a special

10

bond. Through the long summer workshops and the stress of deadlines, friendships were made. This staff provided me with jobs that took me out of my comfort zone, and opportunities that I am forever grateful for. Media Staff made me grow in more ways than I could have possibly imagined it would. This program has been a blessing to me in more ways than one and I am thankful for the opportunities it has given me.
