Rituals of Dance A Maya Case Collection S/S17
"Dance and music have been used in religion for as long as the human race has been on this earth. This collection makes connections between these ancient practices and that of modern-day rave and festival culture. It combines silhouettes inspired by religious musical practices, focusing in particular on chuch architecure and African textiles and dance masks, with the bright colors and energy found at an electronic festival. The use of hand beading and embroidery speaks to those same methods used in the construction of ancient dance costumes, while offering a modern take more reflective of today’s dance events. The spirit of these events will further be conveyed by the contrast of pattern-mixing and textured materials, lending a feeling of surprise and fun."
