A rough design for a brief narrative illustrated by the pictures my daughter drew in a furious, one night sprint to recover her lost health and feel well again four months after she became severely sleep-deprived. Her shattering fall from sleep wreaked havoc on her fragile brain, fracturing her connection to the people, places and things -- like drawing and singing -- that she came to rely on to enjoy and make sense out of her life. The pictures serve as a father's reminders of the crucial role picture-making plays in the life of his neurologically compromised daughter. This isn't a story about artful pictures, but rather a tale about our universal need to draw, and how that truth plays out through a struggling person's effort to find her greatest balance along the ancient line of drawing.
