Hok Lai Timber (M) Sdn. Bhd. was founded by my father since 1992, our company always prioritize our employees wellbeing, and with this effort it allowed us to scale up our business and created a committed team which we are having the same goals toward company success.
And last but not least, I would like to thank you for all the trust and support that given by our business partners. In the past two decades of our incorporating, your support and presence is indicative of the steps we’ve made in the right direction, and of the possibilities of what could be as we continue on this path.

To introduce the history and philosophy of our company, Hok Lai Timber (M) Sdn. Bhd., with a successful story from a small sawmill company to become one of the largest playwood, veneer, saw timber and wood pellet supplier & exporter in Malaysia.

introduction. COMPANY BACKGROUND Hok Lai Timber (M) Sdn. Bhd. was first established as a sawmill company in 1992, founded by the late Mr. Per Eng Lee. During the starting years, Hok Lai Timber was one of the biggest company that supplied Sawn Timber to local exporters. At the same time, our company also started a business of plywood factory, and our products were certified by PEFC. In 1997-1998, various industries were greatly affected by financial turmoil, which caused the great depression of the country. Our late founder Mr. Per Eng Lee decided to find more opportunities outside of Asia, therefore, he went to the Arab Saudi and staying in a strange place for month. Finally, he made the first export business to Middle East country with his wisdom and courage, and the company also received a lot of orders, which not only resolved the crisis at the time, but also took the company to the next level. Besides, in order to ensure our price is competitive enough, we had applied for a logging license to get the raw material by ourselves and with that we have started the log trading business. In the year of 2008, we started sapling cultivation and tree planting, it helped to expand our range of services. We did our best in recycling wood waste, like wood chips, waste veneer
In the year of 2018, Hok Lai Timber received the very ďŹ rst Golden Eagle Award, and became the winner of Excellent Eagle in 2019. As one of the major plywood, veneer, sawn timber and wood pellet supplier, the management has adopted new technology to increase production volume as well as bring proďŹ t and recognition in the timber industry. Incorporating over 27 years of experience in the timber industry with advanced technology, the company has been satisfying international demand for veneered products. Experienced a rapid growth from a small sawmill to one of the plywood, veneer, saw timber and wood pellet supplier & exporters in Malaysia, and we are proud to be the employer of over 150 skilled employees in two factories. Today, Hok Lai Timber is also well known as a timber grower which provide research and development ďŹ eld for Malaysia Universities Agriculture students. In the future, we will bring in more advanced technology to the company to grow towards Industry 4.0 to satisfy market needs and plan to expand our customer base to US and more of Europe countries, as our existing customers are mainly located in Malaysia and some Asia and Europe countries.

A veneer is a thin slices of hardwood coating over the top of a solid material that is designed to look extremely nice. Compared to wood, one of the primary advantages of using veneer is stability. While solid wood can be prone to warping and splitting, because veneer is made of thin layers of wood glued together, the chances of splitting or cracking are reduced. Our Face Veneers are made from selected PEFC-certified tropical woods that sourced from sustainably managed forest. Our Core Veneers are made from either rubber wood or PEFC-certified tropical woods.

PLYWOOD The hardwood plywood is a manufactured wood panel made from gluing layers of wood veneers, with every layer of wood veneer placed in right angles to the preceding and following layers. Wood by-products offer additional opportunities to use the whole tree harvest. Besides our quality lead-products, our company also sells the following wood By-Products: Wood Chips – Wood chip can be used for a wide variety of purposes, from landscaping material to wood fuel. Wood chips are available to meet any specifications required. Sawdust – Sawdust is often used by loggers to provide traction on compacted snow, and is excellent at absorbing liquid spills. Shavings – Wood shavings make high-quality bedding for horses and other domesticated mammals, large or small. The shavings insulate body heat while the animal rests, ensuring good health. Waste Veneer – Waste veneers are usually generated from finishing of veneer production, different types of waste veneer have different usages for jointing process, undersized lamination and craft industries. These by-products are normally used as fuel for brick making and partly also for cooking. At medium or large establishments some of the wastes, like: dry sawdust and chips, are being used as fuel for wood drying process, they are simply burned or dumped.

SAPLING CULTIVATION PROJECT Our Sapling Cultivation Project are an essential alternative in ensuring continual wood flow to meet rising industry demand, and relieving the pressure on natural forests as the primary source of renewable tropical timber. Another point in favour of tree plantations is that they are usually established on degraded land that is rehabilitated for tree cultivation. It represent the way forward for the timber industry, a key economic activity and source of income for the state, private companies and local communities. Our company has invested heavily in fast-growing, high-yield species that are planted and managed for large-scale commercial log production in Malaysia.

The timber trade has evolved & changed over the years, yet Malaysia remains our most important market. Today, Hok Lai Timber (M) Sdn. Bhd. exports products to our markets all over the world. Our primary markets are those which are located within South Malaysia especially Johor due to the rapidly growth of development.
