meet janet

Welcome to our exciting new Jayes Travel Women tours for 2014 and 2015. We are always thrilled to release a new brochure and are proud to say that our diverse range of destinations will intrigue you.

For every JTW tour a representative from Jayes Travel will accompany you from start to finish. Our representative’s main role is to communicate with the local tour operators, hoteliers, airlines, and yourself to ensure that the tour runs smoothly and our schedule is met. They are responsible for reconfirming all arrangements, checking all passengers into their rooms and flights, and looking after all travel documentation. When travelling, there are often unexpected hiccups which are unforeseen and out of our control. It is the JTW representative’s job is to make decisions in these circumstances to ensure that our schedule is kept and all travellers are safe.

JT Women tours have been operating since 2010 and were created to educate Australian women about different cultures and places. Our tours offer an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, meet amazing people and share a journey. We ask that when you read through our brochure you are open-minded to the marvellous destinations we have suggested around the world. Although you may feel that some are a little off the beaten track, the experience you will gain from these truly unique itineraries will be unforgettable. And besides, with our JTW representative along side you all the way you have nothing to worry about.

We believe that consistency is very important across all JT Women tours, and therefore we will have the same representative for the majority of our tours in the future. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce our JTW representative, Janet Maddison! Janet Maddison has escorted many tours for JTW in the past, with exceptional feedback.

A note from Janet Looking forward to experiencing some amazing destinations with the JT Women! I always love hearing about their stories. Travelling with these special ladies is truly inspiring!

Megan China, April 2012 The China trip was amazing! Every city offered something different and our local guides couldn’t do enough. But the biggest thanks goes to Janet for her patience and help to get us to travel around China without a hitch!

hilary cruise & singapore, november 2012 The trip overall was first class and I fully recommend Jayes Travel. Janet was an asset and a perfect tour escort who couldn’t do enough for you.

marcia usa, september 2012 I went on the trip with no expectations and had a great tour! Jayes did a wonderful itinerary, which had a lot of variety and made every day different. It was great that we had a number of days in each city, which enabled you to experience the culture and people of the area.

seven things to consider when travelling in a group

insights 1. You really are on your own when travelling independently: Travelling independently can be fun, but it is also hard work. You have to sort out your route, select and book your hotels, pick the sights you want to see, find out how to get there and reconfirm everything during your holiday. Not to mention the stress of being on time, language barriers, different tipping customs and border formalities….phew! Our JTW tours take all this pressure off you so all you need to do is enjoy your holiday. It is an easy and stress free way to travel with all the planning done for you and our JTW representative on the ground ready to assist with any questions. 2. Is there any flexibility for me in the itinerary? At any time during the tour, you can simply opt not to participate in activities or even entire days. It is your holiday and you simply need to advise the JTW representative if you do not wish to participate. Of course, any activities which are included but not used are at your loss as no refunds will be given. If there is a must-do activity on your list that is not included within our brochure itinerary make sure you let us know! It may have to be a separate tour and therefore an additional cost, but we will do our best to make sure you achieve all of your must-do experiences while on a JTW tour. Your travel consultant can assist you prior to travel or your JTW representative is on hand during your tour. You never know, there might be another passenger who shares the same interest and will join you!

3. Is the Itinerary likely to be changed? We provide you with the most up to date itinerary prior to departure; however unforeseen matters may require last minute changes. These changes are always made in the best interest of the group. As our itineraries are planned, there is a strict time schedule that must be kept to ensure that all sights are seen but also so you have some free time to relax. If passengers are constantly not on time they may be left behind and have to catch up with the group at their own expense. 4. Touring terminology to look out for: There are common misconceptions about what’s included within tour itineraries. What is listed in our brochure is included, however there are key words that you will need to be aware of. • Visit – You will enter the site • Tour – A local guide will show you around the site • View – You will stop briefly for a photo opportunity • See – You will drive past the site 5. Is a twin share room a good idea? It can be, however you need to understand the pro’s and con’s. If you opt for a twin room, JTW will match you with another passenger on tour. There is no guarantee that you will become life long best friends with your room companion. They may snore, or you may snore! They may like to watch TV til late, you might be a light sleeper. If you are worried about this we strongly recommend you pay the single supplement. It is important

to make this decision prior to departure as you cannot change from a twin to a single room whilst on tour. 6. Will I be alone during the free time? When there is free time, you will always be invited to join our JTW representative. If you are not interested in participating with the guide, she can give you a number of other options that may interest you. 7. How fit do I need to be? Our itineraries offer a range of transportation; however in many destinations the best way to see places is by walking. It is recommended that you speak to your travel consultant for more information about your specific tour. Generally, you need to be able to participate in city walking tours that are 2-3 hours in duration. You aren’t required to hike, but need to be able to be on your feet for this amount of time. It is important that you are honest with your consultant prior to travel. We can ensure we make adequate arrangements for you prior to departure otherwise you will affect the rest of the groups experience if we don’t know before hand! Prior to booking, all passengers are required to complete a medical declaration. This declaration is a legal document. If it is not completed honestly, you may find it difficult to keep up with the group and may miss out on activities. No refunds will be given for missed activities nor will any compensation be given for additional expenses to return to the hotel.

the jtw way we Are unique Our JTW program is quite unique and we would like to take this opportunity to tell you why! Small Groups All JTW tours cater to a maximum of 16 passengers. This small group gives us access to a range of activities and boutique hotels that we otherwise would be unable to offer. This size creates an intimate atmosphere which allows you to get to know each other throughout your journey and means you have more time to explore the destination. Plus can you imagine a toilet stop for 50 women – it would be half our day gone! We will pick you up from your home address! We like to make sure you are looked after from the very start of your adventure, which means we will pick you up from your front door (in Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie and Central Coast) and take you back at the end of your JTW tour. This means there is no need for you to worry about getting to Sydney airport or arriving on time. It’s all looked after for you and it’s a great chance to get to know your travelling companions along the freeway! Meeting your fellow travellers before you go Holidays can be nerve-wracking enough without the extra worry of not knowing anyone. That’s why JTW clients enjoy meeting their travelling companions prior to departure. A pre-tour lunch or dinner is included in your tour price, and is a great

opportunity to meet your fellow travellers and your JTW tour escort. No need to pay a single supplement We will match you in a twin share room if you want to save money and not pay the single supplement. Please read the ‘Is twin share a good idea?’ for further advice on sharing a room. JTW inclusions: Our tours are designed to be as inclusive as possible. We include at least 2 meals a day, all must see sightseeing, flights, transportation throughout, return transfers from your home address, local guides, accommodation of a high standard, pretour meal, visas and tipping. We find that the amount of meals we include sets us apart from our competitors. It’s always daunting trying to find the best place to eat in a foreign city. Our JTW Hotels: All accommodation used throughout our tours is of a high standard. On most tours a 4 star or above star rating is met, however in some circumstances there just simply isn’t a 4 star option available. In these situations we use the best available option. Our hotels are in great locations, so you can continue to explore during your free time. Some properties are special features on your tour. For example, in Cuba we stay at the 1930’s Hotel Nacional De Cuba which is a world heritage listed site and has over 81 years history.

Is my tour guaranteed? This is where you can help us help you. Our tours cannot be guaranteed until minimum numbers are met. We require a minimum of 12 passengers booked and deposited, before we deem a departure as guaranteed. It is helpful therefore that you help us spread the word of these beautiful tours as much as you can. Tours which do not meet minimum numbers may still go ahead, but on a case by case scenario. Should a tour have to be cancelled you will be advised 45 days prior to departure. If this happens your travel consultant can assist with another holiday suggestion, or a full refund will be given. Should I book early? Absolutely! It’s devastating when we have to cancel a tour due to lack of numbers. It’s a decision we do not take lightly. In the past we’ve made this decision and in the weeks after have had enough enquiries which would have meant the tour departed! We hate to disappoint and we don’t offer last minute discounts for the final places, so we will take this opportunity to actually beg! Please book your place early and the it’s just a countdown to your amazing JTW experience.

ONLY 3 PLACES LEFT!

// Departs 11th August 2014 26 Day Tour

tour overview

Join us on a magical adventure through the African heartland. Our extensive tour focuses on the national parks throughout Kenya and Tanzania, where we will go in search of the Big 5 and other animals of the area. We will explore Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park and finish our tour with 4 nights in the city of Cape Town. This diverse tour offers everything you could want from an African Safari - unique 4 star accommodation, special highlights including visits to a Maasai Mara village and school, hot air ballooning in the Serengeti, walking with the lions, a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls and much much more.

itinerary Day One // 11th August 2014 (Meals in Flight, D) Today you will be transferred from your home address, with your JTW travelling companions, to Sydney airport. Our direct flight to Johannesburg is the first step of your African adventure! After a long flight we will check in at our airport accommodation for 1 night and enjoy an informal dinner. Day Two // 12th August 2014 (B, D) This morning we will return to Johannesburg airport and fly to Nairobi, Kenya. We will spend 1 night in Nairobi. In the evening enjoy a special welcome dinner. Day Three and Four // 13th – 14th August 2014 (B, L, D) Today we board our safari vehicles and start our 2 week journey through Kenya and Tanzania. Throughout our safari all meals, game drives and sightseeing are included! Our first stop is Lake Nakuru where we will spend 2 nights. Lake Nakuru National Park is one of

Earth’s most phenomenal geological features. It is sunk deep in the cleft of the Great Rift Valley, ringed by shoals of extinct and dormant volcanos and presided over by one of the largest craters of the world. Part of the ancient landscape, known as the ‘cradle of mankind’, the park offers a wealth of history, unique wildlife, spectacular bird life and some of the most beautiful scenery in Africa. This is our first chance to view the wildlife that makes Africa so unique, and hopefully we will sight the Rhinos who roam the park. A unique part of our stay will be a ‘walking with the animals’ experience on Lake Navaisha/Cresent Island. This island is where Meryl Streep and Robert Redford filmed ‘Out of Africa’. Day Five and Six // 15th – 16th August 2014 (B, L, D) Today we continue through to the Masai Mara where we will spend 2 nights. Our lodge overlooks 1800 square kilometres of rolling plains, woodlands and rivers that make up the Masai Mara

Triangle - one of the world’s richest wildlife sanctuaries. Here we hope to see the annual migration of wildebeest crossing the Mara River. This is a ‘once in a lifetime’ type of experience that will take your breath away. The sheer number and power of the pack as they cross the river has to be seen to be believed. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that we will see the crossing as we are at the mercy of nature and the animals. Here in the Mara is where we will have another highlight of the tour - hot air ballooning over the rolling plains. Commencing with a pre-dawn pick up, we will board the balloon at dawn, and spend an hour floating over the Masai Mara. We will have breathtaking panoramic views of the plains, whist being able to continue to watch the animals in their own environment, as most of the flight is spent at tree top level. Upon landing we will enjoy a champagne breakfast, before continuing on to a game drive back to the lodge.

women and children of the village and learn about their ways of life. At this particular village we will have the opportunity to meet with the children at a school, and see what they are learning. There is never a dry eye in the house when they sing us the songs they have been taught! Amboseli offers the most amazing sunsets, and we will enjoy a lovely evening on Observation Hill. With drinks and canapés we will watch the sunset over the savannah; a memorable way to end an amazing day in the park. Day Fourteen and Fifteen // 24th - 25th August 2014 (B, L, D)

// Serengeti National Park Tanzania, Africa

Day Seven and Eight // 17th – 18th August (B, L, D) To avoid long days on the road, today we will fly from the Mara to the Serengeti, via Isebania border where we will spend the next 2 nights. Our accommodation here is the unique Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge. It is set high on a hill, with breathtaking vistas of sweeping grasslands, and the unspoiled wilderness landscape of the Serengeti plains. The design of the lodge is simple, but stunning. Inspired by a traditional African village, separate rondavel ‘huts’ house luxury guest rooms that have their own view of the vast Serengeti plains. Serengeti National Park is, undoubtedly, the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world. With more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thompson’s Gazelle, and a quarter of a million zebra, it has the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa. Day Nine // 19th August 2014 (B, L, D) Today we leave the Serengeti and transfer to Ngorogoro crater where we will spend one night. Our accommodation is built on the rim of the crater, giving us amazing, uninterrupted views of the 102 square mile crater floor that is a rich wildlife habitat. The Ngorogoro conservation area is dominated by the massive crater, which has formed the focal point of so many television documentaries. The crater floor

itself is alive with game, especially around Lake Magadi which is also well known for its flamingo population. Day Ten and Eleven // 20th – 21st August (B, L, D) Today we travel to Lake Manyara which is one of the smallest of Tanzania’s National Parks. Lake Manyara was made a national park in 1960, and covers an area of 330 square kilometres, of which some 230 square kilometres are lake, and lies at the foot of the western wall of the Rift Valley escarpment. In addition to the lions, the national park is home to the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world. Here in Lake Manyara our two night stay gives us time to relax after a hectic week of game driving. You will also have the opportunity to buy some souvenirs at the local markets. Day Twelve and Thirteen // 22nd – 23rd of August (B, L, D) Today we cross back to Kenya and to the magical Amboseli National Park where we will spend the next 2 nights. Amboseli National Park is located in South-East Kenya, under the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli attracts thousands of visitors each year who are drawn by the mountain and Africa’s largest elephant herds. Here we experience another highlight of our tour, a visit to a local Masai village. We will meet the men,

// TASMANIA // EUROPE RIVER CRUISE // AFRICA // HAWAII // CUBA // JAPAN // TURKEY // CRUISING - NEW ZEALAND

We return to Nairobi for a further 2 nights in the city. We have an action packed few days planned with plenty of amazing experiences, including a visit to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, which offers hope for any orphaned elephant fortunate enough to be found alive. What Dr Sheldrick has done over the last 28 years is truly inspirational. We will then visit a Giraffe Centre where we have the opportunity to hand feed these beautiful animals. And, if you are brave enough, they will even give you sloppy kiss! Following this, we journey to the home of Karen Blixen, which was made famous by Meryl Streep in the movie ‘Out of Africa’. A relaxing lunch in the grounds of the museum gives us a break from the rush of the city. While in Nairobi we will also dine at the famous Carnivore restaurant. Here, waiters carry swords and prime meats, carving unlimited amounts onto the cast iron plates in front of you. This is a unique experience and this openair specialty restaurant has become a must-do stop on the safari trail! Day Sixteen // 26th August 2014 (B, L, D) Today we farewell Kenya and return to Johannesburg. Due to flight schedules we will spend the night at an airport property. Dinner this evening will be in the casino at the restaurant Tribes (attached to the airport hotel). Beautiful food and wine will make this a memorable dinner. Day Seventeen, Eighteen, and Nineteen // 27th – 29th August 2014 (B, D) Today we take a short flight to the famous Victoria Falls. Described by the Kololo tribe in the 1800’s as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya”the ‘Smoke that Thunders’- Victoria Falls

itinerary are a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur. Columns of spray can be seen from miles away, as 546 million cubic meters of water per minute plummet over the edge (at the height of the flood season). One of the seven natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls is truly a spectacular sight. We will spend 3 nights at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, with breakfast and dinner included daily (lunches at own expense). Surrounded by 80,000 hectares of unspoilt African bush, the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge has gained world-renowned recognition for providing guests with an unforgettable African experience. All rooms are foreword facing with spectacular views of the bushels and African sunsets. During our stay we have a wealth of included activities. We will take a relaxing sunset cruise down the Zambezi River. There can be very little to rival the pleasure of cruising down the Zambezi River, with a chilled drink in hand, watching the animals and birds frolicking amid fantastic African sunsets. We will also take a guided walk of the falls,

getting up close to the thundering water, and spray. But, our experience of the falls itself is not complete until we soar above in a helicopter for more spectacular views! Whilst in Victoria Falls we will also take an elephant ride through a conservation area, and take part in an amazing experience- walking with the lions. The walking with the lions is a bucket list experience where (with experienced guides!) you will walk with the lions, pat them and learn more about the important rehabilitation efforts of the area. In Victoria Falls we will dine at some exceptional and unique restaurants, including the Makuwa-Kuwa and the Boma restaurant. Our stay in Victoria Falls is sure to be a memorable part of your adventure through Africa. Day Twenty and Twenty-One // 30th – 31st August 2014 (B, L, D) Today we will cross the border into Botswana where we will spend 2 nights at Chobe National Park. Chobe National Park covers an area of approximately 10700 square kilometres. It is home to the largest concentration of Elephants in

Africa, estimated at 45,000. Indigenous to the park is the Puku and the Chobe Bushbuck. The game viewing in Chobe is quite unique. In addition to a morning game drive, in the afternoon we will spend time cruising on the Chobe River. This relaxing way of game viewing gives you the chance to observe the water full of hippos and elephants. As the sun sets on the Zambezi River we are sure you will agree that this is a wonderful part of the world, and an experience second to none. Day Twenty-Two, Twenty-Three and Twenty-Four // 1st – 3rd September 2014 (B, L x 2, D x 3) Today we leave behind Africa’s savannah’s and game drives, and travel to the city of Cape Town. Cape Town is the quintessential melting pot: it is a city alive with creativity, colour, sounds and tastes. While walking through the city’s streets and meeting its people, you will fall in love with its natural beauty, creative freedom and incredible spirit. Cape Town is a city where the unexpected is always just around the corner and the beautiful province of the Western Cape lies ready

to be explored across the city border. During our stay in Cape Town we will experience a variety of sights. We travel along the scenic Atlantic Coast for a visit to Cape Peninsula. Our day tours include the botanical gardens, nature reserves and we have the opportunity to see both the fur seals and penguins of the area. We will experience the magnificent Table Mountain, officially one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature and here we will have spectacular views over the city. A highlight of our stay in Cape Town is bound to be our tour of Robben Island. This is a tour of the infamous Maximum Security Prison where Nelson Mandela was once held for 18 years. Our 4 nights in Cape Town will give you free time to explore the local shops/markets and include some unique dining experiences. Day Twenty-Five and Twenty-Six // 4th – 5th September 2014 (B, Meals in Flight) Today we sadly say goodbye to Africa and embark on our journey home to Australia. Our first stop will be the island of Oahu, where the clear blue waters of the Pacific Ocean meet the metropolitan cityscapes of Honolulu. The historic architecture of Iolani Palace meets the timeless memorials of Pearl Harbor. The big city of Waikiki meets the small town of Haleiwa on the North Shore. Whether you’re hiking on iconic Leahi (Diamond Head), enjoying some of Hawaii’s best shopping, or simply unwinding on the sands of the island’s beautiful beaches, you’ll find variety at every turn on Oahu. On arrival in Honolulu we will be greeted in a traditional fashion, with a floral lei. We will then be transferred to our central 4 star accommodation where we will spend the next 5 nights, right in the heart of Waikiki. This evening we will enjoy our first Hawaiian sunset with dinner at a local restaurant overlooking the beach.

This is a great option if you like a bargain and are looking to complete some Christmas shopping! The second option is a visit to Hanauma Bay. Staring out at the circular-shaped shore of Hanauma Bay on the southeast tip of East Honolulu, you can imagine how this beautiful cove was once a volcanic crater. Today, this crater, likely flooded by wave erosion, is home to an important nature preserve and the island’s most popular snorkelling destination. We will briefly stop and view Hanauma Bay on our day three sightseeing tour, however

this second visit gives you the opportunity to spend half a day snorkelling and exploring the marine life of the Nature Reserve. Your preference must be advised prior to finalising your balance payment. Please note that the Jayes Travel representative will accompany the majority of the group and these activities will not be necessarily private/exclusive for JTW. This evening we will come back together as one group for a farewell dinner to Waikiki. Day Six // 19th November 2014 (B, D) After breakfast we farewell Waikiki and will be transferred to the airport for our flight to the Big Island. Hawaii’s Big Island isn’t just big, it’s still growing. The Island of Hawaii is the youngest island in the Hawaiian chain and is also by far the biggest, providing a vast canvas of environments in which to discover a variety of unrivalled natural wonders. This is the home of one of the world’s most active volcanoes (Kilauea), the tallest sea mountain in the world at more than 10,000 metres (Maunakea), the most massive mountain in the world (Maunaloa) and the largest park in the state (Hawaii Volcanoes National Park). All but two of the world’s climate zones generate everything from lush rain forests to volcanic deserts, snowcapped mountaintops to beautiful black sand beaches.

Today after breakfast we dive right into exploring the unique Big Island. We will get to experience the scenic beauty and volcanic excitement of Hawaii as we travel through lush tropical rain forests & the famous Volcanoes National Park. Our tour starts with a scenic drive along the southern coast of Hawaii, taking us along the Kona coast to view Kealakekua Bay and visit a Kona coffee plantation. Here we can to sample this flavourful brew before we continue to travel around the southern tip of Hawaii to Volcanoes National Park. In the park we will see the steam bluffs, marvel at Kilauea Iki Crater & walk through Thurston Lava Tube. But this tour isn’t our only experience of the one of the world’s most active volcanoes! We will then take to the air for a helicopter tour - a perfect finish to the ultimate Big Island adventure. From one of the best vantage points you’ll see the areas of activity including any lava ocean entry points and Puu Oo, the volcanic vent that has been the focus of most current activity since 1983. Evening is at leisure.

DID YOU KNOW... The hula was originally a form of worship performed by highly trained men who were supposedly taught the dance by the Hawaiian god Luka.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before having time at leisure today. Enjoy the resort facilities and take time to relax during our Big Island adventure. This afternoon we will drive to the summit of Mauna Kea or an experience you will never forget. Its hard to believe you are in Hawaii as you climb to 13,796 feet above sea level. Once at the summit we are afforded spectacular views of the horizon, Haleakala on Maui, Mauna Loa and Hualalai, and Mauna Keas world class array of telescopes. Mauna Kea is the worlds tallest mountain, rising over 32,000 feet from the ocean floor to its summit, which is considered by many Hawaiians to be the most sacred place in all the islands. At this elevation, and because of the clear air and minimal light pollution, the stars can light the sky like glitter. The sunsets above the clouds can also be spectacular. During the tour we will be provided with a hot, picnic dinner served family style.

After a late night stargazing, we will have the opportunity for a sleep in before a leisurely breakfast and transferring to the airport for our flight to Maui. The second largest Hawaiian island has a smaller population than you’d expect, making Maui popular with visitors who are looking for sophisticated diversions and amenities in the small towns and airy resorts spread throughout the island. From the scenic slopes of fertile Upcountry Maui to beaches that have repeatedly been voted among the best in the world, a visit to the Magic Isle recharges the senses. But like every good magic trick, you’ll have to see it for yourself to believe it! On arrival in Maui we will transferred to our beachfront accommodation. Here we will spend the final 4 nights of our Hawaiian Adventure. This evening we will partake in the amazing Old Lahaina Luau. The Old Lahaina Luau takes great pride in presenting an authentic Hawaiian evening of traditional cuisine, music, cultural

dances and demonstrations. You will appreciate a genuine reflection of Hawaii’s rich history while enjoying an ocean view and sunset. This is regularly voted the best luau in Hawaii.
