LOŠBATES SCHOOL The new building of LOŠBATES school is a unique example of municipality cooperation and therefore a unique opportunity – it has a potential to create more than just a new building, but even rehabilitation of public space in the suburbs. However, the school should be a creative and inspiring space for its users - children. The object of the school actively works with the articulation of the character of the public spaces and also the organization of the building and creates spaces for children’s safety, education, games, and leisure, at the same time it gives many benefits to its surroundings. CHILDREN'S WORLD Elementary school is a whole world for a small child, so it is more than important to pay a special attention to this typology. It is necessary to create a space where

children feel safe, a space that will encourage them to play, help to bring new friendships and, of course, a place that will allow children to concentrate and gain new information. A large part of these variables are in the hands of future Lošbates teachers, but the task of our proposal was clearly to create ideal conditions for this child's world of knowledge. ABOUT THE NEW SCHOOL The new school offers a meeting point for the wide community of LOŠBATES. It is a new contemporary school center that offers flexible uses; both for the teaching activity and for cultural, sports and recreational activities; with the aim to integrate the communities. In daily use as in special events, all kinds of activities that will have a place here throughout the year, following the village calendar. It is inserted in the preexisting urban concept, respecting the landscape and the context where is placed using local work and

technologies for its construction, to generate a set with which the inhabitants feel welcome and identified. COMMUNITY LIFE Our proposal works with the whole plot area to be able to provide service for a big number of activities at the same time. Spaces connected to the school are designed in the way to have the capacity to serve large and small groups of people, of all ages, at different times of the day and through all the seasons of the year.

CONNECTION OF THE CAMPUS Starting from the existing master plan, we find there is a mention of the neighborhood path and the inclusion of the inter-landscape. We try to support this phenomenon in our proposal and the school site should work as another pearl on the necklace of the neighborhood path, another possible stop on the way through the countryside, in this case with use for everybody. It should be an element of the cultural landscape in contact with the forest and wildest character of the surrounding parts of this path.

URBAN CONCEPT / CURRENT SITUATION The advantage of Louňovice and its surroundings is that it posses a quite significant and interesting landscape character. The Louňovice ponds, the surrounding valley and forests bring to the area of urban sprawl with a potential for recreational facilities.

URBAN DESIGN OF THE CAMPUS With a relatively strict separation of public / semi-public and private (pure school areas), the proposal defines the use of neighboring plots. The entrance area, as well as the northern “wooden” park, serves all inhabitants of the village of Louňovice and all the passers-by as a cultural recreational background with

elements for the play of children of all ages (playground for the smallest, skatepark, etc.). The school access is of high importance, as it serves as an agora; a gathering spot in connection with the auditorium of the building, which, not only holds school events but also serves the wider public indoors and outdoors. Half-public school spaces offer the opportunity to function as a closed fenced area or publicly accessible one, depending on the policy of the school management. In any case, this space is separated from the main communication streams by the mass of the school building and creates a more private southern sun garden which is connected to the primary level. This area works as a more sheltered place for the stay of smaller children under the supervision of the teachers and as the buffer zone from private gardens. The western oriented sports complex serves in the morning for school lessons and in the afternoon for leisure

activities of the wider public. For special occasions, there is a car parking/basketball field in the northern part of the sports area, which can be used according to current needs and the number of parking cars. The landscape is prepared to serve people as the small amphitheater to watch the game, another plus is the wall of the neighboring gym which can be used as a climbing wall to add more recreational activities to the area. Totally private remains the internal school atrium, which is intended for school pupils' leisure time during breaks or afternoon classes. This is an easy-to-control area that could be used for short-term children's games as well as the main outdoor school gathering area.
