SPIRALIA HOUSE

The concept behind this project was to create a building which would describe a spiral like shape formed by straight lines on it’s front facade which progressively encloses within itself, and at the same time tilts towards it’s front, generating a cantilever that increases gradually, making its upper floor stand out little by little over its ground floor. All of this alongside it’s large glazed facades provide a great perception of lightness to the building, which if observed from the front part seems to be almos floating freely in space.

The only element that stands out as a solid on this vast transparency and lightness in the front facade is the central volume in which houses the main access door to the, the rear exit door which connects with the garden at the back, and inside the hose the stairwells, acting as a nucleus of vertical communications between the different levels, also passing through the roof slab, and giving access to a large terrace at the top of the house.

The interior of the house is very spacious, and has almost none interior partitionson the lower level, which generates a free, diaphanous and simplified space with clean circulations. re are also some social areas in the upper levels of the house. The lower level tough is the main social living and social space of the house, with a quite a large space that is divided between indoors and outdoors. A large swimming pool and a spacios deck covered by a pergola are located in the backyard of the house. Besides the living areas, the first floor also houses most of the service areas such as kitchen or laundry room.

Due to the needs and distribution of the house, the upper floor houses all the more private spaces, that is to say the rest areas such as the bedrooms, family living room and a small work and study room.

Also, as stated before the second floor and the upper level house some social areas such as large turfed terraces and a big barbecue area covered by yet again another large pergola. This way it’s been tried to make the most out of the available space, even the flat roofs that otherwise would have been left inaccesible.
