JUAN SEBASTIAN DAVID GUZMAN COVER LETTER

Dear Hiring Director, My name is Sebastian, and I write to you in hope of applying for a full-time position as a Architectural designer, or should there be an alternative post which you feel would be better suited, at your office. I am proudly capable of designing solutions that are dynamic, creative and reliable through hard work, communication with teammates and attention to detail. I am a graduate from the Master of Architecture program at PRATT INSTITUTE in New York City, class of 2018. Whilst studying there I also worked in Pratt's Rapid Prototyping Lab from June 2016 to June 2018, working primarily with 3D printing, laser cutting and general model construction. I am originally from Bogotรก, Colombia, where I obtained my first undergraduate degree in industrial & product design from Universdiad de Bogotรก Jorge Tadeo Lozano. I later relocated to Hong Kong, where I pursued my second degree, graduating from the University of Hong Kong in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies. In addition, I have taken courses in and self-studied different software from Revit, Auto-Cad and Rhinoceros to 3dsMax and Maya, as well as the Adobe suite including PSD, Ai and In-design, After Affects, Premiere Pro, to name a few. In addition to digital design, I am also very interested in model construction. Shortly after graduation I initiated my working experience in NYC, by joining BDF Design a modest architecture firm specialized in residential design, where i gain familiarity with city zoning and building codes as well as construction documents and Department of Buildings application process. this opportunity open the doors to my most significant contact with the architecture field, as I moved to MVA(Mark vetter Architecture). Once there, I was introduced to a more hands-in approach, my responsibilities diverged from site surveying, documentation and existing conditions model crafting through schematic design, egress and accessibility, draw-ing documents sets for design development, construction and bidding to construction administration with emphasis in submittal reviews, site meetings and punch-lists focused on PEC design facilities for clients such as Soulcycle, Rumble, barry's bootcamp and retail store for Everlane. The most important and fundamental motivation in my design conscience, and what I personally feel is my strength, is the ability to identify possible issues, address them, and develop a language or series of parameters within which to quantify and subsequently, solve said issues. I am looking to further enhance my knowledge and creativity in the architecture and design field, and I believe working with your team would be beneficial for both parties; your portfolio and range of clients which would allow me to flourish in any concentration, and I believe my eclectic background and skills will supplement and contribute to any team I work with. Please feel free to contact me if you would like any clarification or further details. I look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for your time and consideration. Project: THE LILY PADS Status: Academic work Program: Residential Description:

Designing mix-used residential towers is a very complex process. This project has a low of points into consideration, the possibility of reclaiming the front side, challenging the concept of floor plates, interaction of units, living spaces and the difference between public and private circulation. Starting with a very simple GFA study and the circle as the principal resource, argumenting that it allows a continuous space with no corners; this building be came an example of one way to deal with a water-front and a highway; there is certain segregation which evocate a high-rise building melting into a small village.
