FACT: The 241 Extension does NOT go onto the beach. It connects to the existing 5 Freeway.

FACT: There will be no change to the Trestles Surf Break. The surf breaks at Trestles are created by the rocks that are under the surf. The sand that replenishes Trestles beach comes from the beaches to the north, not from San Mateo Creek.

FACT: Opposition groups to the 241 Extension are waging a misinformation campaign using junk science, scare tactics and fabrications. Their goal is to limit the ability of the general public from visiting Trestles by restricting traffic. “…the beach would become polluted with a bunch of people, you know, who don’t really come to the beach that often…” National Public Radio Sept. 16, 2007

They don’t want you at “their Beach” even if it doubles the time you spend driving home.

Your drive time will increase every year unless we get relief from the 241 being extended.

Opponents of the 241 Toll Road Extension want to keep you and the general public out of their ‘private beach’ even if that means keeping you stuck in freeway traffic…unable to get home.

We pretty much have a special beach from everyone else. No one else comes here except for people who surf Trestles on a regular basis… We basically have a beach pretty much to ourselves… On an average day maybe anywhere from 10–20 people out there.

– Ronnie St Jean, 241 Extension Opponent National Public Radio Sept 16, 2007

With the 241 Toll Road Extension

If you drive on the 5 Freeway your time spent getting home will increase unless we ease the growing congestion by building an extension to the 241 Toll Road. You, your neighbors and community will be forced to spend their valuable time in a nightmare of bumper to bumper traffic on the 5 and on backed up surface streets. Because of a misinformation campaign by vocal opponents, your time on the freeway could more than double.

FACT:

The 241 Toll Road Extension does not go on or anywhere near the beach. It connects to the 5 Freeway over one half mile away (9 football fields.)

FACT: FACT:

There will be no change to the surfing conditions at Trestles. Period. The organizers of the so-called “Save Trestles” campaign want to limit beach access. They want to keep a public beach available only for the privileged few at the expense of working families who use freeways.

Projected Drive Time 2025

The U.S. Department of Commerce will hold a Public Hearing July 25 at UCI Bren Center to gather public input on the 241 Toll Road Extension. This is the one time your opinion on traffic will really matter. If you want to improve traffic on the 5 freeway we need to hear from you before the Public Hearing is held. Please fill out the attached response card letting us know you want to improve traffic and mail it today.
