FACADE DEVELOPMENT Façade panels created to act as potent shading device in a very hot and dry climate. Panel design is such a way that it also lets in effective air movement. OUTDOOR SPACES Parks designed at south west corner of the site to minimise heat gain caused by hot sun rays from that side. Waffle structure is provided as means of shading in form of pergolas and supports. Structure also semi roofs the OAT spaces. SENSORY GARDENS A sensory garden is a garden environment that is designed with the purpose of stimulating the senses. This stimulation occurs courtesy of plants and the use of materials that engage one’s senses of sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. Senses feel are enhanced via these gardens in the therapy block. These spaces proves effective for calming and improvement for the affected. VERTICAL GARDENS These were provided at all dwelling spaces. At staff quarters, Hostel block, Director and Guest houses and also for Cottage homes. These are again acting as effective shading and soothing feature for the hot climate. At Hostel block’s first floor, garden spaces were created for the training students. These spaces were also shaded effectively with vertical garden façade. Large sitouts designed for guest and director house with vertical gardens as calming and shading feature.

Initially people in Dandeeshwaram started to settle down around the lake in huts to serve their own needs. Farmers who came for occupational reasons settle down around the paddy fields. As the economic status of the people in huts improved they started to construct concrete structures. More huts were formed behind these structures. As the settlement developed they started encroaching the lake and dumped garbage in the lake. He houses in the front kept increasing in height and the huts extended horizontally on the lake. The lake is being encroached gradually and development happens both horizontally and vertically. In 2026 proposed map, the whole lake is mapped as
mixed use zone. The hidden settlement abutting the velachery main road is nearer to the lake. The domestic activity is being carried out on the street. This colony is not seen from the main road. A small door from the main road leads to an unorganized and unauthorized colony. The domestic activities carried out in streets affects the sanitation. Garbage the being dumped and a bund is formed. The garbage is strewed over the lake as well. The lake is being encroached gradually and development happens both horizontally and vertically. The proposal aims to provide a dynamic solution with active social space replacing the existing static condition of the site. It is sensitive to various economic backgrounds creating a holistic approach. The neighborhood zones are activated by the provision of commercial spine along one of the main roads. Rapid urbanization and encroached housing settlement has led to a critical situation of degradation of the lake. The lake has to be reclaimed to its original form by rehabilitating the economically weaker section and low income housing with a better livelihood. As a part of reclamation the site (smaller portion of the existing velachery lake) is connected with the larger part which is on the other side of the 100 feet road. 69

recreation icon The design idea was to create an iconic structure which can be spotted even from the backwaters and hence making it an ideal location to hang out thus bringing in a lot of tourist foot fall and also provide a convenient gathering location for the locals for recreation around the year 81

PERFORATION
‘Jaali’ word means a net or a fine web. It is an Ornamental perforated screen found in Indian, IndoIslamic and Islamic architecture. As a shading device it is an egg crate, a combination of horizontal and vertical shading device at a minuscule scale. It appears to be 2-dimensional, but the thickness along with the interlinked balusters forms many small devices equivalent to a large overhang or a vertical fin. In the ancient times, structures were designed to tackle the natural conditions and provide indoor thermal comfort without relying on mechanized systems. Such a passive method is the Jaali. The first evidences of which is seen in the Mediterranean, where the windows were divided into subparts. The span of lintels was reduced with latticework and provided security. The building is protected from the environment by a double skin which is derived from a traditional building element called the ‘Jaali’ which is prevalent in Rajasthani architecture. The double skin acts as a thermal buffer between the building and the surroundings. The density of the perforated outer skin has been derived using computational shadow analysis based on orientation. The outer skin sits 4 feet away from the building and reduces the direct heat gain through fenestrations, yet allowing for diffused daylight. The jaali thus, serves the function of 3 filters- air, light, and privacy.

E- LIBRARY
Mobile Digital Learning Centre The E-library aims to open accress to knowledge vua digital means for anybody, to help foster a digital India. It’s compact size and mobility permits it to adapt to any context and also enables adaptability of use over time. 133

Large scale digitization projects are underway at Google, the Million Book Project, and Internet Archive. With continued improvements in book handling and presentation technologies such as optical character recognition and development of alternative depositories and business models, digital libraries are rapidly growing in popularity. Just as libraries have ventured into audio and video collections, so have digital libraries such as the Internet Archive. Google Books project recently received a court victory on proceeding with their book-scanning project that was halted by the Authors’ guild. This helped open the road for libraries to work with Google to better reach patrons who are accustomed to computerized information.
Najafgarh being an urban village has the potential to be a tourism hub and yield more revenue, there are possible locations where e-library can be set up with an investment of 12 lakhs per unit. Sports complex is much needed in such kind of urban village to bring the focus point to the zone, any urban design cannot be a success without proper guiding boards and hence interactive boards are to be set up in various locations around the entire village. Green belt is required to bring in a cleaner micro environment and hence the city is benefited equally by the development project, when these points are addressed there will be a better development in and around such zones

The hot arid climate of the region is a key determinant of the design. Solar passive design provides us with approaches to combat the heat that are tried and tested. The site is part of RWPL township and is meant to address housing facility for the township guest. The site proposed for housing construction lies to the south of township and is in a way faces back of the township. However, the development in this site can have the optimized advantage of views from the surrounding open greens towards its south.

The area of study RWPL Township though located peripherally to Barmer city, is in proximity to most of the transport arteries. The area being located towards east can witness future growth of the city around it, promising the township to become an integral part of Barmer city. 151
Barmer is featured with built forming a pattern of an intricate dense urban fabric. Apart from few large urban greens, the rest of open spaces are shaped by the built. The relation between built and un-built spaces of the urban fabric is formed in organic pattern at multiple levels. The open spaces are shaped as per community use and the resultant massing is majorly self-shaded. 153
This dense built of the city can lead to shaded streets for pedestrians and shaded open spaces for its neighborhoods. For Barmer, being in hot arid climate, this shading feature through the built can enable the un-built spaces to be more efficient to accommodate various activities. However, the relation of the built and un-built of the township is different from the rest of Barmer city. This relation becomes critical to generate lively spaces in the township. The size and density of new construction within the township is closer to that of Barmer city context. 155

kidzdale preschool Elevation Design
Kidzdale preschool project is an interesting design problem , client asked for a corporate kind of facade design for their existing residence type built structure with full of fancy glass cladding for the facade. ‘The facade’ was facing south west direction and hence using glass facade could invite more heat inside the built structure and hence solid wall with wall cladding and a piece of colored wall was suggested along with jali to give it a porosity.

Residence in urapakkam architectural visualization
Working under Architect Sriranjini gave a lot of exposure, several developmental changes took place in the entire design process. This particular residence was one among the dozens of architectural visualization projects i handled during the course period, there were also design inputs apart from the architectural visualization done by me during the design phase

Night brings out the beauty of the structure and the lights emphasize the architectural elements better than the daylight
