A Message from the Chairs

“The world is but a canvas to the imagination.” - Henry David Thoreau

opportunities

It all begins with a blank canvas. For everywhere you go, everyone you encounter, and every connection you make at one point in your life; each leaves an impression to what is simply your developing narrative. Today, we all came here with a reason: helping others, leaving a mark, challenging ourselves, meeting new people, discovering new passions, and cultivating old ones. It does not matter who you are, where you are from, and what you are looking for because there is something that holds us together and drives us to achieve incredible things: Change. Today, we are looking to bring innovation to the world that surrounds us. Whether you are going to be a successful entrepreneur, a loyal employee, or an audacious traveller, change will shape your persona, and help achieve your goals in a way that no one else would have ever imagined. We want to be part of this change by bringing together a collection of inspirational professionals from innovative companies spanning across industries to celebrate the importance of innovation. At the Young Entrepreneurs’ Conference 2014, you will build personal connections with industry leaders, learn from recruiters to help jump start your career, and be inspired by industry-specific presentations and keynote speeches. Today, we want to leave an impression in your life by guiding you to become a painter of innovation, a future leader who leads a better tomorrow. On behalf of the YEC Committee, we would like to thank you all for your tremendous support by attending this event.

Career Advice Look to fail

Learning to fly

Have you ever wished you could fly? What does it really mean to fly? To me flying is aboutsoaring to new heights to take in a different view of the world. And it's thrilling, it's exhilarating, because this is what life really should be. And you discover new destinations as you go from one place to the next to the next. That to me is what flying is all about. My rules, my vision, my plan, my path. So my idea today is you should learn how to fly -- soar to new heights, seek new destinations and become a better person. I want to share with you 5 outrageous tips:

Your own life as a leader started when you left the nest for the first time. Most of us follow a path defined by other people our parents, friends, organizations or by society. Once you start defining your success you start define your life, and you own it. It becomes yours. But I also say you should start now. There is no after school. A lot of people, they wait to start life. Okay, I’ll finish my degree, and then I’ll do my masters and then I’ll start my life. No, your life started, it’s now, it’s happening. So what are you doing about it? Leaders are neither born nor made only. You were all born to be made into leaders. So take that leadership course, define your own path, take audacious risks, continue to learn and move onward and upward. Great leaders can fly, because they do what other people say they can’t do, and they soar to new heights they haven’t seen before.

Changing consumer preferences often create complexity and opportunity for the savvy entrepreneur. Focusing on unmet consumer needs, and aligning your customers’ economic interests with your own, will increase your odds of success. In my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many smart and talented people. Those who rise to leadership roles almost invariably have two things in common: superior communication skills, and a willingness to work extremely hard. When you develop the ability to share a clear vision and mobilize others to act in support of your vision, there is no limit to what you can accomplish. And of course, don’t expect success to come easily. “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” -- Thomas Edison

darrell keezer

What are you passionate about? How much are you willing to fight for it? The hardest thing in the world is to turn nay-sayers to yes-sayers. You have to be willing to understand who you are and fight for it. You have to fight for your life. If you don’t fight for it, who will?

Stay This is all about interpersonally intelligence and development. The best leaders know who they are, know what they stand Selffor and know where they want to go. It’s a big part of personal branding, it’s a big part of connection. So you should absorbed invest in who you are first. Get a life. NOW

Career Advice

All the best business leaders out there who have done amazing things have all failed miserably. Why? Because they were able to embrace the idea of failure.

Go away, Immerse yourself in experiences that create diversity and independent living. Independent living leads to more Get lost independent thought, ideas, and action.

Adam Deremo

We are entering a time where starting a company is easier than finding a job. As a Millennial myself, I believe that we, the new breed of digital natives, will go beyond the social norm of landing a job, into launching new concepts. Don’t look for career path, make one. Belong to a company that bestows pedigree. Or be part of success (company, startup, project, even an event). A shared experience, a positive one, is an incredible bonding agent. You will always have an automatic bond with fellow alumni. Think about Google’s diaspora, or Facebook’s. Or conversely, sharing Lehman’s last six months.

Steve lightstone

More LinkedIn; Less Facebook. Manage your network. Your resume will get you your jobs in your 20’s and 30’s. Your network will get you your jobs in your 40’s and beyond. In fact, your network can drive your career and personal success in your 40’s and beyond.

What worked for me is learning from everyone around me, and meeting as many experts in my field as I could. I was surprised at how many people responded to help me, what they taught me and how many doors opened as result. One lucky day, I learned that my real competitor is myself. My real competitor is myself. Since then, I’m improving my own effectiveness to be better at what matters for my goals. That gave abundance of motivation and made life fun.

After a day of connecting with various individuals make sure to sit down and put a name to a face. Ask and remind yourself who you met, what the individual’s position was, and what you gained from the conversation. Jot this down on a separate piece of paper!

Once you have some individuals down, follow up! Take the first step and stand out by making contact after the event. Take the initiative to move the relationship forward. A simple email or even a follow up within social media, like Likedin, is a fantastic start.

1. Reflection time

4. Stay motivated

Closing Tips Written by: Marta Bielak YEC Content Writer @bielakm

Be sure to keep the conversation going by giving your contact a clear incentive to keep a conversation going with you in the long-term. There must be some mutual gain and benefit between both parties taking part of the conversation. For example, be sure to highlight your skills, experiences, and unflinching enthusiasm for working together with the individual in the future.

2. Make contact

Later when you have reconnected with the contact, kindly remind them who you are. Chances are they met with a number of people at the event and will have difficulty remembering who you are. It is up to you to jog their memory by mentioning who you are, where you met, and what you spoke about. If you don’t get a call back in a while, don’t worry! Be patient and try and try again!

3. Continue the conversation

5. Memorable lessons If there is one thing you could take away from attending YEC14, what would it be? As yet another powerful form of reflection, ask yourself what it is you learned from attending this year’s event. These lessons are meant to guide you towards further self-improvement and open you to more possibilities within the workplace. We hope that this networking event has becoming yet another stepping stone for you and wish you all the very best in your future endeavors! On behalf of the YEC committee, we would like to extend a special thank you to all of our attendees for making this event truly worthwhile!
