PARAMETRIC ROOF CASACOR

FORTALEZA, Ceará - Brazil

Collaborating with two bamboo enterprises, I played a pivotal role in crafting an exhibit featured at “Casacor Ceará.” This recognized showcase serves as a canvas for pioneering architectural and interior design visions. Embracing the thematic essence of “Body and Home,” our creation interwove the organic tapestry of nature, the human spirit, and domestic sanctuaries. Our approach to construction centers on the elegant fusion of arches and meticulously crafted bamboo mesh. Evocatively inspired by the supple patterns of skin, our roof design envelops the entire expanse, fluidly erasing the boundaries between inner and outer realms. Through its beguiling curvature, our creation not only resonates with nature’s graceful lines but also encapsulates the essence of harmonious living. It stands as a testament to the seamless integration of sustainable materials and artistic ingenuity, beckoning visitors to experience a symphony of organic beauty and architectural innovation using bamboo as prior material.

BAMBOO BRIDGE

TIBÁ INSTITUTE, Bom Jardim - Brazil

During a bamboo workshop at the Tibá Institute of Intuitive Architecture, I had the privilege of collaborating with the esteemed colombian architect, Jaime Peña. Our collective efforts were channeled into the evolution of a captivating over bridge design, shaped through the innovative potential of Grasshopper scripts.

My role encompassed not only the orchestration of the workshop’s delivery but also the meticulous preparation of drawings and hands-on guidance for the construction teams. Over the span of four intensive days, we united our energies in a truly collaborative endeavor, working hand in hand to give life to this architectural shape. The bridge design rests upon the foundation of basic symmetrical arches crafted from bamboo splits. These arches intertwine with a strategically placed mesh providing structural cohesion in both U and V directions. Beyond its demonstration purpose, the bridge stands as a symbol of collaborative innovation, architectural competence, and the boundless possibilities inherent in bamboo as a sustainable building material.

BAMBOO AUGMENTED REALITY

INSTITUTO BELAS ARTES, São Paulo - Brazil

The bamboo nest emerged as a captivating sculpture serving as the culminating project of a workshop led by Kristoff Krola and Garvin Groepel from Hong Kong. Central to this endeavor was the crafting of intricate bamboo splits, resulting in a mesmerizing creation that encapsulates the essence of our collaborative efforts.

At the heart of the workshop was the development of Grasshopper scripts, centered around Kristoff’s innovative “pop-up grid” concept. This ingenious framework facilitated the construction process, streamlining its execution despite the intricate nature of the project. Augmented reality played a pivotal role in translating our artistic vision into reality. With guidance from Garvin Groepel, we harnessed this technology to bring our sculpture to life, seamlessly blending modern techniques with traditional craftsmanship. The bamboo nest demonstrates the potential of blending artistic expression, innovative design, and technological innovation to create a harmonious and evocative pieces and buildings.

BAMBOO HYPAR CABIN

I actively participated in a workshop under the guidance of Jorg Stamm in Tibá, Brazil, collaborating closely with the Tiba Domus Architecture team to design and construct a bamboo cabin. The cabin’s construction relied on the meticulous utilization of dendrochalamus asper and guadua angustifolia bamboo poles, which were harvested and processed on-site, aligning with our commitment to sustainable and locallysourced materials. My engagement spanned a wide array of responsibilities. These included the development of architectural drawings, scripting, and layout for the cabin, as well as overseeing the project’s timeline, materials, and drawing preparations. Additionally, I provided assistance to the workshop’s instructor throughout its duration. Of particular distinction is the cabin’s roof design—a hyperbolic paraboloid structure that materialized through the application of parametric drawing techniques in Grasshopper. The process of construction commenced within the workshop’s framework and has since been taken over by the skilled craftsmen of Tibá, ensuring the seamless continuity of the project.

TENSEGRITY SCULPTURE

Crafted through a hands-on workshop at Tibá in 2022 with the guidance of Andry Widyowijatnoko, this bamboo tensegrity sculpture embodies a harmonious fusion of art and engineering. The workshop participants embarked on a journey of exploration, crafting a precise 1:20 scale model that served as the foundation for the full-scale sculpture. Ten guadua bamboo pieces were deftly arranged, with seven gracefully suspended, attesting to the exquisite balance achieved through tensioned plastic cables. To ensure a seamless transition from model to reality, the scaled-down prototype was thoughtfully tagged, meticulously delineating the placement of cables and bamboo elements. My pivotal role encompassed translating this intricate model to the actual site, orchestrating the coordination of teams to meticulously assemble and interlock the bamboo poles. The result is a captivating testament to the collaborative spirit, blending innovative design and meticulous execution. This bamboo tensegrity sculpture stands as a dynamic embodiment of the possibilities woven by nature and human ingenuity.

ABUELA’S HOME

A CASA, Escobilla - Mexico

“A Casa” is a commendable organization dedicated to crafting homes for women globally. In 2022, their mission took shape in the form of a house designed for Abuela Maria Luiza — an esteemed storyteller deeply rooted in Mexican traditions. I took on a pivotal role in materializing this endeavor, spearheading the integration of a collaborative team that harmonized various facets of the project. Guided by a shared vision, I liaised with the local team and collaborated with three other female architects, collectively pooling our expertise to manage, oversee construction techniques, and engage in hands-on work. This collaborative effort sought to honor and uplift Abuela Maria Luiza’s legacy while embodying the values of community, culture, and empowerment. In a creative nod to sustainability, bamboo played a key role in the construction process, providing structural support to the earth walls that encapsulate the essence of Abuela Maria Luiza’s narratives and Mexican heritage. This ongoing journey stands as a testament to the synergy of purpose, craft, and culture, weaving a tapestry of home, tradition, and empowerment.
