Juhood Magazine is the journal of academic undergraduate writing on the Middle East at Duke University. This issue, edited by Phoebe O'Hara and Giacomo McCarthy, considers the soft power in Turkish television programming, the force of theoretical 'modernity' on Algerian socio-political movements, pre-WWI political cartoons from the Ottoman Empire, the role of youth theater in the Syrian Revolution, the League of Nations in the territorial dispute over Mosul in the 1920s, and the wealthy urban observationalists, or flaneurs, in 20th century Turkish literature.
