Jules B suits SAFC just fine As the club’s official suit partner, Jules B has been giving Sunderland’s first team stars a helping hand in the style stakes. The firm has been supplying the club with its match day attire for the past five years, as well as providing designer threads which have wowed attendees of Fashion Kicks – the annual fashion show which benefits the club’s official charity, the SAFC Foundation. Jules B is set to continue its influence on the first team squad’s striking appearance, after excelling with this year’s single breasted Hugo Boss suit, which has proved a hugely popular addition with the squad. The modern dark blue two piece – tailored to the specific measurements of the Black Cats players, backroom staff and directors - complete with crisp light blue shirt and exclusive SAFC tie, has been a firm fixture at the club’s home games this season, adding an air of comfort and sharp style to players and officials, ahead of Barclays Premier League matches and club events.
Founder of Jules B, Julian Blades, said: “We are proud to be associated with the Club. It has created a unique showcase for us and has strengthened our links with the community south of the Tyne. It is a true privilege to be able to reflect our success in the success of the team. Together we are creating a window display for the rest of the UK of how much the North East has to offer nowadays: high class sport, fashion and business.” SAFC’s marketing and commercial director, Lesley Callaghan, added: “Wearing an official club suit is a real source of pride for our players. They not only represent the values and high standards of the football club and its supporters whenever they’re on club duty, but the city too, so it’s important that they have an appearance befitting of that role. Jules B has delivered on exceptional standards consistently, providing suits which not only look impressive but that are comfortable and functional.” Club captain Bolo Zenden, who starred in Jules B’s latest advertising campaign together with fellow players Fraizer Campbell and Anton Ferdinand, commented: “The suit has been really popular with the team this season – it looks fantastic and it’s very easy to wear. It is special as it helps in representing a club like ours. The lads always take great pride in doing so.” The former Netherlands international, who has also plied his trade in some of the most fashionable cities in Europe, continued: “We took part in a photo shoot recently wearing clothes from the spring /summer collection from Jules B and there are some beautiful items in there. I know the boys had their eyes on quite a few bits, so I’m sure they’ll be showing them off around the training ground soon!” by Lee Marshall W W W. J U L E S B . C O . U K

Just L anded ALICE by Temperley launched for Spring Summer 2010 and already has an international following including a range of stylish ladies such as Daisy Lowe, Beyonce, Jessica Biel by Temperley
and Rihanna. The Spring/Summer 2011 collection puts a streetwise spin on past centuries’ French fashion and is inspired by the last Queen of France, Marie Antoinette, whose
mischievous sensibility, taste for the decadent and hunger for romance have turned her into by Temperley
a style muse. You’ll find a classic toile du jour print turned into a playful cotton playsuit
and motorcycle leathers mixed with peasant-inspired cross-stitch blouses. The collection
features multi functional separates and signature dresses in a breezy soft palette of whites, creams, blushes, nudes and silvery grays.

With a name like Jason Denham there was only one career path for the man behind ‘white hot’ jeans label
Denham. Since its launch in Spring 2009, Denham has been providing the finest clothing and denim to the worlds hippest stores and here at Jules B we are delighted to now be showcasing the brand.
Born in the North East and now based in Amsterdam, Jason began designing jeans for U2 before launching
his label to the critical acclaim of the fashion world. Produced in Italy and Japan the quality and finish of
the product is second to none and this is based on Jason’s theory of denim integrity, which is his dedication
to providing the finest washes and fit on these uber cool jeans.
From the moment Marc Jacobs’ diffusion line hit the runway in 2001, fashion followers have been lining up to get a piece of the ready-to-wear action. He has since stamped his cult brand of retro cool on a must-have accessories line, which includes bags, shoes and offbeat timepieces. The Spring/Summer 2011 collection is infused with an upbeat, seventies-inspired enthusiasm, youthful dressing up, which plays neatly into this season’s appetite for
“proper” clothes. Of course, the designer has added his own spin: alongside a lovely selection of full-skirted, even demure, sundresses is a new take on the rah rah girl with belted tops/cardigans worn over short shorts.
ORLEBAR BROWN
Founded in London in 2007, Orlebar Brown swimwear combine sharp edge
style, vibrant colours and functionality. New to Jules B for the spring, Orlebar
Brown offer a tailored approach to mens swimwear that works equally as well in the pool as it does relaxing in the hotel bar.
Parisian-based designer Guillaume Henry came to the attention of the fashion world when he was appointed creative director of the house of Carven in 2009, after receiving a phone call out of the blue asking what he thought of Carven. His answer - that the house should move away from couture and dress real women - appealed to the owner. Carven was in fact most famous for dressing actresses and royalty, and has since become associated
with Henry’s laid back sense of style and “casual elegance” aimed at ‘the girls next door’. This season’s collection is based on chic, femininity and simplicity. There is nothing
ostentatious, just a distinct taste for contrast; the silhouette is young and modern, the
cuts precise and often short. The dress code grants pride of place to blends of styles and materials, with witty mixes of pure, rigorous and fluid, floaty lines.

‘til the Ever since the 1950’s the leather jacket has always been connected with the idea
of rebellion, made popular through legendary figures such as James Dean, Marlon Brando and various rock n’ roll acts such as The Ramones and Joe Strummer. Men have always paid tribute to the iconic jacket as firstly a fashion statement and secondly as a durable, hard working cover up. Originally made from horsehide, leather jackets appeared slightly rigid but are now constructed from a much softer material such as lambs leather or goats hide. Whilst rock and roll has heavily influenced perceptions of the leather jacket, modern brands are beginning to introduce more contemporary examples including styles from designers such as Trapper, Armani Jeans and Hugo Boss. Made from the finest leathers sourced from all over the world, Trapper combine vision and experience to produce timeless classics such as coloured suede bombers, as well as more streamlined jackets which are ideal for wearing like you would a blazer, allowing you to sport the look on a night out down the pub. Armani Jeans are reverting back to more classic styles such as biker jackets whilst combining a modern street feel through concealed hoods. If it’s a more vintage feel you’re after then look no further than Hugo Boss, with a variety of styles from biker jackets through to longer lengths. The Boss leathers have many unique design features, including detachable faux fur collar inserts, allowing them to be worn season after season. The perfect leather jacket is a fashion investment not to be taken lightly, but a quality leather jacket will actually look better through age, allowing it to become a staple in your wardrobe with years of wear, well worth splurging those extra pennies for. 1. The
fashion industry is a global multi-billion pound business - that is a fact. Many would identify this with the simple fact that we essentially need to wear clothes! Indeed long gone are the days of Adam & Eve wandering in the Garden of Eden. Yet fashion is so much more than clothes. Some see it as art, others as a career; ultimately it is a means of expressing ourselves. Trends come and go, style is a matter of opinion – some say anyway! – but ultimately ‘dressing’ is about making a statement about being an individual, about the sort of mood we are in, about how we value ourselves and essentially how we want others to value us. The saying ‘First Impressions Matter’ wasn’t invented just for the sake of it and we only need to think of uniforms for example to realize that ‘Clothes Speak Louder Than Words’.
You can choose from an assortment of linings, buttons and style options to design and create your new image for this season. In addition and to compliment your selection, we are proud to introduce our new Custom Made shirt service. This gives you a wonderful choice of fabrics with vibrant colours to create your own look from a variety of collar and cuff combinations and contrast details.
When you think about it, we identify and express so many personal experiences with our choice of outfit as we want it to say something about us. Clothes speak for us in an interview, at a party, on a date, in our work setting, at a wedding or a funeral.
Next Made to Measure Event to be held with Munro from 11th to 16th April 2011 at Jules B Jesmond.
We have also introduced our visiting tailoring service. If it is more convenient we will visit you at home or the office. Please contact Peter or Carl on 0191 281 7855 (ext 1) or email peter@julesb.co.uk. Be your own brand….
So, one can understand why Made To Measure is such a big part of the Jules B world. A made to measure suit says something about a man – he pays attention to detail, he looks after himself, he takes pride in what he represents, he is bothered about first impressions, he likes to invest in quality and … he knows how to communicate all of this without saying a word! Jules B takes huge pride in the selection of services available in store and has carefully selected the companies to assist in the fulfillment of such services. Basically we only work with the best of the best! With a team of trained and knowledgeable staff on site and market leaders in this sector such as Pal Zileri, Munro & William Hunt in the production department, you are guaranteed a perfect result. Whether it be for business, a wedding, a special event or simply for every day enjoyment, now is the time to make your suit or jacket selection for Spring/Summer. New to this season’s fabric collection are the superb wool and mohair mixtures which are lightweight and offer unsurpassed crease resistance.

Now unless you have been living on Mars for the last year, it couldn’t possibly
have escaped your attention that there is a certain Royal wedding about to descend on us and send the people and press of the world wild with pre marriage speculation and gossip. Important questions like the content of the best mans speech, the song choice for the first dance and scrutinizing over who has and hasn’t made the guest list will enthral us right up to the big day when we can finally sit back, relax and enjoy the happy occasion of Prince William taking Kate Middleton’s hand in marriage. Fashion wise, the future king will no doubt be looking all dapper in head to toe serviceman uniform, but all eyes will most certainly be on his bride to be as we wait with baited breath to get our first glimpse of what will surely be the most talked about dress of the 21st Century. So on behalf of all the good folk here at Jules B, we would like you to join us in raising a glass of bubbly and wish the happy couple the very best for their long and happy future together.
ARoyal
Wedding Whilst Kate Middleton is strolling down the aisle with her Prince
Charming in one hand and her mighty rock on the other the A-list female guests will no doubt be wearing the most coveted designer dresses, vying for the attentions of the male guests in the hopes of bagging themselves a Duke, Knight or Lord. The celeb studded wedding will be one of the most celebrated days in British history. It’s not about love, it’s about fashion. Every girl will be dressed to impress as the paparazzi and film crew bare all to the eager public. Rumour has it that 100 ‘golden tickets’ to the royal event will be given out to selected members of the public. Whilst I’m praying that my invitation has been lost in the post, I will be celebrating in regal style by tapping into the romantic trend with pastel pinks and silky textures in the hopes of finding my very own fairytale ending.
So whether you are hoping to snare a Prince or turn from the ugly sister
into Cinderella, here is a selection of wedding appropriate outfits to make sure Kate’s showstopping gown is not the only head-turner.

We are not just celebrating the impending Royal nuptials, oh no, we also want to help the rest of you, who are counting down the days to your own big day, with a little bit of style advice for the guys out there, who are determined not to be put to shame by your wives to be.
DO.
Dress appropriately. If you’re getting married in the height of summer or abroad then it’s imperative to choose the correct fabric. You don’t want to spend your big day uncomfortably hot, so choose a lighter fabric such as linen or cotton. If the opposite applies and you’re getting married in the winter then chose a heavier fabric such as wool or tweed.
DO.
If you can, go bespoke. Let’s face it; the Mrs has spent a king’s ransom so you’re entitled to treat yourself also. A bespoke suit is the ultimate luxury in tailoring as everything will be exactly to your specific requirements. The perfect fitting suit will accentuate your good points and hide the bad leaving you looking and feeling a million dollars.
DO.
Chose the correct accessories. It’s the little touches that will stand you out from your guests, so pay attention to the small but vital details. A waistcoat is an excellent addition to give your suit a more formal, tailored look. If you’re not wearing a buttonhole, then a relevant pocket square is a great alternative. Selecting the correct cufflinks is also a great way to add that extra little detail.
DO.
Find a style that suits you. It’s important that on your big day you are wearing a style of suit that is best fitted to your shape and size. If you’re short then avoid longer fitting jackets as this will give the illusion of you being even shorter. Likewise, if you’re tall then you should opt for a longer fitting jacket. Pinstripes can also make you appear to be taller. Choose the colour of your suit to match your natural colouring and don’t be afraid to experiment with checks or other patterned fabrics.
DO.
Most importantly, relax and enjoy yourself, it is the happiest day of your life after all!

PRETTY in PRINTS If
you thought solid colour is the only way to be bold this
season think again. It’s all about the prints...aztec, floral, multi-
colour and abstract; and wearing clashing prints will earn you double fashion points. Ditch the androgenous look and head out in full-on florals for
a feminine look this season. Designer Paul Smith has traded his signature stripes for a spectacle of blooming floral prints
on dresses, cardigans, skirts and accessories. Nicole Farhi and Milly also work the floral trend with their signature classical cuts and shapes. A perfect way to invite a touch of Spring into your wardrobe. If florals aren’t your thing the tribal inspired aztec prints are
an edgier take on feminine prints and teamed with a pair of gladiator sandals channel the inner Goddess for a romantic look.

IF THE SHOE FITS It’s a little known fact that the average woman will own between 16 and 22 pairs of
shoes. That may not come as much of a surprise to some, but what may be a surprise
is that the average man will only own between 2 and 4 pairs. The modern man is a creature of many habits and will live his life in many different environments, but I’m sorry, to prepare yourself properly you are going to need a few more pairs than that! Whether it be hard at work in the office, a big night on the town, a leisurely Sunday afternoon or that well deserved summer holiday, it’s vital that you get the all important footwear right. After all it’s what the ladies will notice first.
The Perfect Office Shoe. To look the part in the office you need to choose a pair of formal, smart, traditional
shoes. Ideally you should own both a black and brown pair but it’s more important to start with the basic black in either an Oxford or Derby. A plain toe cap or a traditional brogue both work well and William Hunt and Jeffrey West provide excellent examples of both.
The Big Night Out Shoe. It’s Saturday night, another hard week at work over and you’re all psyched up for a big night out on the town. The outfit is all washed and pressed but the only
thing missing is those killer shoes to really set it off. Now’s the time to be more
adventurous than your office foot attire and really let loose. A two tone derby or the
ever increasingly popular monk shoe will really give your outfit a lift and stand you out from the crowd. Italian brand Francisco Beningo makes the ideal occasion shoe and is exclusively available from Jules B.
The Casual Shoe. Now as much as we want you to be looking fine and dandy the majority of the time we do understand there will be the odd occasion you want to dress down, relax and just take it that little bit more casual. For this reason it’s important that you own a
good pair of casual shoes. Whether it be Paul Smith trainers or a bang on trend pair of J shoes, it’s vital that you have some at your disposal. Team up with on trend denims to really complete your summer casual look.
The Perfect Holiday Shoe. If there’s one little luxury in life that we all deserve then surely it’s that week or fortnight relaxing in the sun. After saving up for the summer holiday then be sure to keep a little bit back for the perfect holiday shoe to see you through your well
deserved break. Whether it’s a pair of Hudson espadrilles for round the pool or a pair of Finns suede loafers for the alfresco dining be sure to hit Jules B for the perfect summer footwear selection.

BOLD is
BEAUTIFUL Spring Summer 2011 heralds the return of colour and it’s back fiercer and brighter than ever.
The neutral Autumnal tones are gone and the catwalks have been set ablaze with a riot of rainbow colours and bright acid hues.
If black is usually your fashion armour you might find yourself in the dark surrounded by a spectacle of bold colour this season. Be brave, be bold and learn a lesson in colour...
Lesson 1: Colour-pop Ideal for the first time colour enthusiast, think of a neutral base colour and simply pop a touch of colour into your look with anything from jewellery to shoes to a bright bag. Effortless!
Lesson 2: Colour-block If you’re feeling a little braver it’s time to colour block. Choose no more than four solid colours and layer appropriately for a perfectly executed outfit. Remember to finish with nude heels and neutral accessories to avoid overkill.
Lesson 3: Colour contrast Only when you have perfected both the colour pop and the colour block are you allowed to enter the realm of Colour Queen. Choose contrasting colours; the bigger the contrast the bigger the statement and don’t be afraid of stripes, spots and varying textures. Just repeat after me: Bold is beautiful... by Amy Degnan

A legacy 25 years in the making There aren’t many independents in the fashion industry that can look back on 25 years and still have plenty to look forward to. Having survived not one but two recessions, in a world that deals with what ultimately could be classified as ‘non- essentials’, the husband and wife team of Julian & Rhona Blades, have not only made a stamp in the fashion industry - they have created a trademark and shaped a business ethos. Their style has inspired boutiques all over the country and ultimately put Newcastle on the map, as a savvy market in designer fashion, like no other independent retailer has done before, and unlikely will ever do again. The story began a bit like a fairytale, when Rhona and Julian – she one of the youngest lecturers at Northumbria University at the age of 22, he a successful agent for Barbour having already shown entrepreneurial spirit in bringing the brand into the German market – decided to start a business together after merely 3 months of dating. That ‘gambling’ edge that seems to be a common denominator amongst most successful entrepreneurs certainly paid back, as 25 years down the line, they have turned 27K worth of investment into an 8million+ turnover business that stretches across 8 stores in the North of England - which have earned them a clutch of industry acolades and awards - and a 10,000 sqf Head Office in Newcastle upon Tyne. As well as housing stock and the admin offices, the headquaters – or Yellow Brick House to the locals - is the home of an ever expanding digital workforce, which includes specialist photographers and graphic designers. These are the people behind one of the most successful fashion websites in the UK, which - supported by a specialist team of experienced buyers and merchandisers, as well as a cutting edge PR & Marketing set up - are contributing daily to the development of a ground breaking retail enterprise and a fashion legacy. It’s been a long and interesting journey since opening their first Jules B store in the leafy suburb of Jesmond just outside the city centre of Newcastle in 1985. Since then, more Jules B stores have opened in Newcastle, as well as in Yarm, an affluent market town in North Yorkshire, and Kendal in the stunning Lake District area of Cumbria – all of which have become prestigious shopping destinations catering for an elite clientele of fashion devotees. In this time, they have won the Drapers Record coveted title of ‘Best Independent Fashion Store’ an impressive four times. By constantly evolving and driving the business forward, they have succeeded and continued to grow where many others have failed. Investing early on in the Jules B website, when most fashion independents were still unconvinced of the internet’s potential, was a bold move that proved to be the right one and www.julesb.co.uk continues to go from strength to strength. To celebrate the very special landmark of this silver anniversary, a-notso-needed-but-certainly-welcomed face lift has been given to every store to create harmony and continuity across each branch, thereby reinforcing Jules B as a national brand and expressing its ethos of quality and uniqueness through every pore, with a new up-to-the-minute website literally days away from being launched too. These are all ways of proving that Julian and Rhona are in no way ready to stop their journey. It is that very passion and desire to constantly discover the next best thing and to

challenge one’s achievements in order to pursue bigger ones that does not allow them to sit still and rest on their laurels. That, and ultimately the desire to give something back – to their loyal customers, to their staff, whom they see as an extended family and to that very industry that has fired their passions from a very young age. All Jules B stores are renowned for their inspired mix of contemporary and well established brands. Major names such as Paul Smith, Nicole Farhi and Mulberry sit alongside hot newcomers, Alice by Temperley, Halston Heritage and Benedetta Novi. There is only one strict criteria when it comes to the selection of brands to be included in the Jules B portfolio and that is ‘quality’. When one looks behind the scenes of the Jules B stage, one discovers the true heart of this company: a man and a woman with a passion to inspire who have remained true to the very same vision they set their heart on a quarter of a century ago. You can sometimes feel the fear for the unknown or come against the determination of following their gut instinct no matter what, but ultimately you cannot help but be enthused by their clear desire to offer a ‘no-compromise quality of service and product, with an attention to detail second to none’. Whenever one or the other speaks of their business journey, the thing always mentioned is that ‘they could have not done it without the other’. There is something to say about creating a successful business as well as a successful marriage – plenty of people nowadays cannot make one of these work, never mind both!
