ABout me Hi! I’m Julia! I’m so glad you’re here and excited for you to get to know me a little better! I was born & raised in Germany and moved to the US in 2016. When I was a young teenager I would redecorate and move all the furniture in my room on a monthly, or should I say weekly basis (it’s true! Ask my mom) and when I was not, I was just drawing and sketching for hours while I would watch my dad woodworking and building furniture. Fast forward a decade, I went to business school, worked in retail and then childcare for a couple years until I found my true calling in Interior Design. I always loved design and I’m surprised it took me this long to pursue my dream, but now I’m determined to build a beautiful career and helping people by doing what I love.
Today I live in a townhouse in West Chester, Pennsylvania with my husband and our dog. We enjoy going out to restaurants, trying new foods and spending time with our loved ones. To relax, I love listening to audio books, creating art and caring for my plants.

I chose the publishing company Elle Magazine to design an of ce space for. Elle inspires women to explore and celebrate their own style in all aspects of life. Their smart, irreverent take on fashion, beauty, and pop culture is at once aspirational and accessible. As Elle magazine is targeted to a female audience, most of their employees are passionate, independent females and I want to create a space where women can fully embrace their femininity and be proud of who they are and who they work for.
I N S P I RAT I O N & DESIGN INTENT THE DESIGN FOR ELLE MAGAZINE’S EPUBLISHING OFFICE WAS INSPIRED BY THE COMPANY’S AESTHETIC AND VALUES. ELLE BELIEVES THAT ALL WOMEN SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO LIVE OUT THEIR PASSION AND FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS. THEREFORE, THE DESIGN PAYS HOMAGE TO WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT THAT ELLE SUPPORTS. FOR A BOLD STATEMENT, BLACK TOUCHES ARE FOUND IN ALL AREAS AS A STRONG CONTRAST TO SOFTER HUES. TO EMBODY FEMININITY THE SPACE INCORPORATES POPS OF BLUSH AND TERRA COTTA AS WELL AS SLEEK MATERIALS LIKE BRASS AND GLASS TO GIVE THE SPACE

Project scope THE OBJECT OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DESIGN A CO-WORKING SPACE, LOCATED IN ONE IF THE PHILADELPHIA BOATHOUSES ON THE SCHUYLKILL RIVER. THE CO WORKING SPACE IS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO ENTREPRENEURS WHO ARE STARTING THEIR OWN COMPANIES, OFFERING FLEXIBLE WORKSPACES THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE A SMALL BUSINESS OF 1-8 INDIVIDUALS, AND PROVIDING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT FOSTERS CONNECTION TO OTHER ENTREPRENEURS AND THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AT LARGE. THE SPACE IS TO HAVE A VARIETY OF WORK SETTINGS THAT ALLOW BOTH HEADS DOWN AND FOCUS WORK OR MORE COLLABORATIVE WORKSPACES. THE DESIGN IS TO INSPIRE INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY. COFFEE AND HEALTHY BITES ARE A BIG PART OF THE CULTURE AND THE SPACE SHOULD INCORPORATE BOTH AS PART OF THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT. IN ADDITION, THE SPACE SHOUL BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE LARGE GATHERINGS FOR EVENTS
AND PRESENTATIONS.
INSPIRATION & DESIGN INTENT THE DESIGN FOR THE CO WORKING SPACE IS INSPIRED BY IT’S LOCATION ON THE SCHUYLKILL RIVER AS WELL AS THE BEAUTY OF NATURE SURROUNDING DIFFERENT BODIES OF WATER. TO BRING IN THE TRANQUILITY OF WATER AND NATURE, THE DESIGN WILL INCORPORATE ORGANIC SHAPES AND TEXTURES AS WELL AS WATER FEATURES AND LIVING WALLS. THE COLOR PALETTE WILL VARY BETWEEN GREEN HUES ANS WARM NATURAL COLORS IN THE BEIGE COLOR FAMILY, RESEMBLING PLANTS AND ROCKS FROM THE RIVER TO CONVEY A SOOTHING AND WELCOMING ATMOSPHERE. THE USE OF COMPLIMENTING NATURAL WOODS AND STONES, LIKE RIVER ROCK AND DRIFTWOOD, WILL ENHANCE THE INTEGRITY OF THE EXISTING STONE AND BARN STRUCTURE AS WELL AS REFLECT THE BEAUTY OF NATURE. USING MODERN FINISHES LIKE BLACK STEEL AND DIFFERENT METALS WILL GIVE THE SPACE A MODERN TOUCH, CREATING A BALANCE OF ORGANIC AND MODERN TO ATTRACT THE CLIENT TARGET GROUP OF YOUNG PROFESSIONALS IN THE FAIRMOUNT AREA. LARGE SPACING AND GENEROUS TRAFFIC WAYS BETWEEN AREA WILL ALLOW FOR A FEELING OF OPENNESS AND THE POSSIBILITY TO SAFELY SOCIAL DISTANCE IF DESIRED.

INTERIOR PLANTS OFFER A SIMULTANEOUSLY NATURAL AND BEAUTIFUL TO THE INTERIOR WHILE BENEFITING THE OVERALL WELL-BEING OF WORKERS. BY INCORPORATING PLANT LIFE BRING MANY DIFFERENT BENEFITS.
• VISUAL: Plants bring a visually-meditative experience that can lead to happier
and healthier workers, ultimately leading to more productiveness. An of ce teeming with vibrant greenery will also convey a positive brand image to visitors.
• STRESS RELIEF: A number of studies have been conducted that indicate indoor plants can reduce stress levels in work environments. • CLEAN AIR: Plants in the of ce improve air quality by removing harmful pollutants. Plants also stabilize humidity levels. Indoor plants have also been shown to reduce the symptoms of “sick building syndrome” or SBS. • REDUCE NOISE: Plants are commonly used to reduce noise pollution along highways and interstates. Using the same concept, plants in the workplace change room acoustics by reducing reverberation time. Plants placed in areas with hard surfaces such as hardwood oors, concrete and marble walls, will effectively absorb noises which can be distracting and hurt employee productivity.

CLIENT PROFILE THE OUTDOOR BRAND YETI WAS FOUNDED IN 2006 BY TWO BROTHERS WITH A PASSION FOR FISHING AND THE SIMPLE MISSION TO PRODUCE THE BEST COOLER FOR EVERY DAY USE. SINCE THEN THEY BECAME THE LEADING COMPANY FOR DRINK WARE, HARD COOLERS, SOFT COOLERS, BAGS AND MORE. TODAY YETI IS NOT ONLY A COMPANY, BUT ALSO A REPRESENTATION OF A LIFESTYLE CARRYING THE SLOGAN “BORN FOR THE WILD”
PROJECT SCOPE THE COMPANY YETI HAS EXPANDED AND ESTABLISHED THEIR NORTHEAST HEAD QUARTERS LOCATED IN A SUBURBAN PHILADELPHIA OFFICE PARK. YETI HAS COLLABORATED WITH A SUCCESSFUL RESTAURANTEUR TO CREATE A CORPORATE CAFE FOR EMPLOYEES TO UNPLUG AND RECONNECT. THE SPACE WILL ALSO SERVE AS AN ALTERNATIVE WORK SPACE FOR INDIVIDUALS OR SMALL GROUPS. THE CAFE WILL INCLUDE SOME TYPE OF GAMES FOR TWO OR MORE PEOPLE TO ENJOY TOGETHER.
INSPIRATION & DESIGN INTENT THE DESIGN AND NAME FOR THE “TIMBER CAFE” CAPTURES AND CONNECTS TO THE BEAUTY OF RAW NATURE AND BRINGS THE OUTDOORS INSIDE. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY USING NATURAL WOODS AND ORGANIC FINISHES LIKE LEATHER AND WOOL. COMBINING RUSTIC AND INDUSTRIAL ELEMENTS GIVE THE SPACE A COOL, BUT COZY ATMOSPHERE. THIS CREATES A RELAXING RETREAT AND INVITES EMPLOYEES TO STAY A WHILE.
