Macquarie International Executive and Senior Management

Professor Jim Lee Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) Prior to his appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International at Macquarie University, Jim was Vice-Provost (International) at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Professor Jim Lee received a BSc in Geological Engineering from Queen’s University Canada, and a MA and PhD in Geological Sciences from Princeton University. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Research Fellow at the Australian National University and then a Queen’s National Scholar in the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering.

Director, International Nicole Brigg joined Macquarie International in January 2014. Nicole holds postgraduate degrees from Monash, Canberra and ANU. Over the last 18 years, she has held a number of senior leadership positions in government, private and higher education, in roles that have encompassed sales and marketing, international education and complex operations.

Global Business Development Team Nicola Bate Associate Director, International Business Development nicola.bate@mq.edu.au Nicola has a Bachelor of Business and Marketing Management from the University of Gloucestershire with 14 years experience in Business Development, Marketing and Channel Management for the Higher Education and Information Technology sectors. Nicola has a broad range of international experience, creating networks, partnerships, regional offices, brand and market entry strategies across 20 countries.

South Asia Abizer Merchant (based in India) Regional Director - India, Sri Lanka abizer.merchant@mq.edu.au Abizer has more than 10 years’ experience in the international education industry. He is based out of Mumbai, India. Previously Abizer was the Associate Director, International Marketing, at La Trobe University. He came to Australia as an international student in 2002 and has a good understanding of international education from a student perspective. He has completed a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Mumbai and a Master of Marketing at Monash University.

Asia Team Matt Monkhouse Regional Director matthew.monkhouse@mq.edu.au Matt has an established career within the higher education sector with significant experience in international relations, student recruitment and international marketing. Matt’s business development interests focus on stakeholder engagement, with a particular concentration on developing government and institutional relationships. Matt has a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and is currently studying a Master of International Relations -International Trade and Commerce Law with Macquarie University. Tanveer Shaheed Senior Country Manager - Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, India tanveer.shaheed@mq.edu.au Tanveer has been working in International Higher Education industry for the last 13 years at various roles in Marketing and Recruitment, Faculty, International Admissions, Student Services, Student Administration & Quality Assurance departments. He has Master degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science. Tanveer has been working at Macquarie since 2008 helping young people to build their careers of their choice and to fulfil their dreams through Australian Quality Education system. Kevin Hwang Country Manager - Mongolia, South Korea, Russia kevin.hwang@mq.edu.au Kevin is originally from South Korea and came to Australia in 1992 as an international student. He possesses a strong passion to assist international students in selecting the right path for their future based on his experience as a student in Australia. In his 10 years of exposure with the international education industry, Kevin was responsible for counselling international students for higher education. He has been involved with Macquarie University for 8 years in various capacities which includes admissions, marketing and recruitment for onshore and North East Asian market.

Jason Foo Country Manager - Brunei, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand jason.foo@mq.edu.au Jason has been with Macquarie International since 2011 working in an array of departments, the most recent being with International Admissions. Having developed solid foundations with key partners over the years, he also brings extensive experience towards the identification and assessment of qualifications from Asia and onshore institutions and holds key entry requirement information. Jason has lived abroad in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for 10 years where he learned to converse in Malay.

Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) Team Michael Aust Regional Director michael.aust@mq.edu.au Michael holds a Bachelor of Management (Marketing), Master of International Business and is completing a Master of International Relations. Michael has extensive global experience in international education marketing, strategy and relationship management. He has a particular interest in the profiling of emerging markets and development of linkages with Governments and institutions. As Regional Director – EMEA, Michael leads a team responsible for the Middle East, Africa, Europe. Ritz Gupta (based in the UK) Regional Manager - Africa ritz.gupta@mq.edu.au Ritz has recently joined Macquarie University. She has been in international marketing and recruitment for nearly 10 years and has worked for two British Universities and one of the largest agencies in Africa. She brings a considerable wealth of knowledge, with her experience from both public sector and the agency world, particularly from Africa, which is an emerging market for Australia. Ala Altaani Country Manager - Middle East ala.altaani@mq.edu.au Ala holds a Master of Applied Linguistics from Sydney University. Ala commenced with Macquarie International in January 2012, focusing on student recruitment within the Middle East. Ala, who is fluent in Arabic and English, assists with strategy development and implementation, maintaining and establishing relationships with key university partners as well as student recruitment. Natalie Spicer Country Manager - Europe natalie.spicer@mq.edu.au Natalie is Australian, with a passion for international education. She spent 5 years studying in France and Spain and working in education, in fields such as course development, pre-departure training, and exam preparation. She holds a degree in International Studies, and a Masters in Applied Linguistics. Natalie is fluent in French and Spanish, and speaks Russian and German.

Latin America Guie Hartney (based in Chile) Regional Director guie.hartney@mq.edu.au Guie has over 12 years’ experience representing Australia’s education sectors in Latin America, Europe and Asia through work with the Queensland Government Trade and Investment Office (Japan), Queensland Department of Education and Training (Brisbane), Griffith University and most recently at Macquarie University where she operates from Santiago, Chile. Guie’s contribution to Australia-Latin America relations was acknowledged through the National Award win for “Excellence in Australia-Latin America Business” in 2012. Guie speaks English, Spanish, Japanese, German, and Portuguese.

Pacific Team David Harrison Regional Director david.harrison@mq.edu.au David holds a Bachelor of Communications from the University of Technology Sydney. In his role as International Regional Director, David brings a broad range of business experience including consultancy roles and senior positions in marketing and stakeholder management. David is a Spanish speaker and has been with Macquarie since 2011. Natalie Lee Senior Country Manager - Indonesia, Philippines natalie.lee@mq.edu.au Natalie is originally from Canada and has a passion for making a positive difference to the lives of international students, having been one herself. She holds a Masters Degree from ANU in International Relations and has been working at Macquarie since 2010. Natalie brings 10 years’ experience in the field of international education having worked in Indonesia, Canada and Australia in roles such as career counselling, student support, marketing and stakeholder management. She is fluent in both Indonesian and Malay. Yoko Kaitani Country Manager - Cambodia, Laos, Japan, Vietnam yoko.kaitani@mq.edu.au Born in Japan, Yoko is responsible for international student recruitment, international collaborations and partnerships in Vietnam, Japan, Cambodia and Laos. Yoko has been working in Education since 2003. She has worked in ELICOS, Schools, VET and Higher Education with both private and government providers. Yoko worked on business development at TAFE NSW for 2 years. She is currently studying a Master of Project Management. Lea-Anne Allen Country Manager - Canada, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, United States leaanne.allen@mq.edu.au Lea-Anne Allen holds a Bachelor of International Studies and Diploma of Japanese from the University of Adelaide. She has also lived in Japan and Sweden as an international student. Lea-Anne brings over 5 years of experience in international education including student support, study abroad and recruitment. Jasmine Chhabra Study Abroad Coordinator jasmine.chhabra@mq.edu.au Jasmine is a Macquarie alumna and has worked with various departments at the University since 2011. With a passion for foreign cultures and languages, and following several experiences as an international student on shortterm programs, she recently re-joined Macquarie International in the field of Study Abroad.

Greater China Stephen Fan Regional Director stephen.fan@mq.edu.au Stephen is the Regional Director managing the University’s engagement with China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan in Macquarie International. Stephen has work experience in both education and business sectors in China and has the experience to form strategic partnerships and pursue business development opportunities for providers in school, VET, and HE sectors in Australia.. Ben Li Senior Country Manager ben.li@mq.edu.au Ben Li holds Master of Translation and Interpreting and Master of International Relations from Macquarie University. With over six years’ experience in international education sector, Ben has worked on markets including Greater China region, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. The passion for international education and deep understanding of challenges facing by international students have driven Ben to commit to excellence service for all international students who commerce their academic journey at Macquarie University. Ben also speaks fluent Mandarin.

Key Macquarie University staff Kathy Humphrey Associate Director, International Administration kathy.humphrey@mq.edu.au Kathy is responsible for International Student Admissions, Systems, Finance and Compliance. While only recently appointed to Macquarie, Kathy has substantial experience in international student administration and IT and financial management experience built during an 18 year career in Australian Universities. A key area of focus in this role will be the analysis and improvement of business processes and the implementation of new system functionality to improve the service provided to Macquarie Internationals students and partners. Kathy holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Irene Ho International Admissions Manager irene.ho@mq.edu.au Irene joined Macquarie in 2000, working as the team leader for China, Hong Kong, South East Asia, Americas & Europe before becoming International Admissions Manager in March 2011. Irene supervises and coordinates a team of 25 admissions staff with the assistance of 15 officers. Irene enjoys working with her team members, sharing ideas and achieving common goals. Anthony Badgery (maternity cover for Carmen Law) Partner Relations Manager anthony.badgery@mq.edu.au Anthony has over 14 years of sales & marketing experience ranging across various industries. Born in regional NSW, he offers a diverse international perspective gained from working in the UK and recruiting international students from Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Anthony holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree from CSU Bathurst and is currently enrolled in the MGSM Postgraduate Certificate of Management. He has worked for Macquarie International in business development since 2011 and will now be taking on the role of Partner Relations Manager. Christina Miebach

Christina has worked across a variety of marketing channels for corporate market leaders, as well as small and medium-sized entities on an international scale (Germany, USA and Australia). Being originally from Germany, she came to Australia in 2011 and understands the importance of shaping your career with a global mindset.

Asia Kit Liew Student Regional Assistant, International - Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Mongolia and Russia kit.liew@mq.edu.au Kit Liew has been with Macquarie International for over 1.5 years and currently holds the position of Student Regional Assistant for Asia team. He has a background in Civil Engineering and is currently pursuing an Economics degree specialising in the field of Econometrics at Macquarie University. Having spent his early years in Malaysia before migrating to Sydney, Kit has exposed himself to a diverse range of cultures and can communicate fluently in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, Cantonese and Mandarin. In addition, he also holds an executive position as a Public Relations Director for Macquarie University’s Malaysian Student Association. Lisa Peatrarut Student Regional Assistant, International - Thailand, Myanmar, South Korea lisa.peatrarut@mq.edu.au Lisa is currently in the third year of her Bachelor of Arts with Bachelor of Laws combined degree at Macquarie University. She was born and raised in Thailand and speaks Thai and Mandarin. She is also an active participant in the Global Leadership Program. In addition to her studies, she has organized multiple fundraising events such as a fundraiser performance for ‘Build a School Project’ and a photography exhibition to raise funds to support the underprivileged children to the Education for Development Foundation in Thailand.

South Asia Riasat Hussain Student Regional Assistant, International riasat.hussain@mq.edu.au Riasat comes from the land of rivers, Bangladesh. After completing his Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing and having worked in the corporate sector in business development, sales and marketing for two years, Riasat came to Macquarie University to pursue his Master of Commerce in Marketing and Business Management and Organization. He is currently in his final semester and is working at Macquarie International as a Student Regional Assistant looking after South Asia. He speaks Bengali, Hindi and Urdu and dreams to be a successful global business leader in the future.

EMEA Abdullah Alghamdi Student Regional Assistant, International - Middle East abdullah.alghamdi@mq.edu.au Abdullah has professional experience in the Media and Communications industry in Saudi Arabia. He commenced his journey as an international student in 2009 at Macquarie University, and is in his final year of studying a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. Abdullah joined Macquarie International in April 2013 as a Student Regional Assistant, liaising with prospective international students in relation to courses, facilities and the Macquarie experience. Miyuki Uido Student Regional Assistant, International - Europe and Africa uido.miyuki@mq.edu.au Miyuki is a third year law exchange student at Macquarie University from the University of Leicester (UK). She has lived all her life in France with a Japanese background. Miyuki is fluent in French and Japanese and a little bit of Spanish. Miyuki’s involvement at university includes her position as an SRA, whereby she intends to expand her horizons internationally. After her LLB, she plans to do an LPC to become a solicitor in the UK.

Greater China Elliott Zhu Student Regional Assistant, International elliott.zhu@mq.edu.au Mr Elliott Zhu is currently a second year student studying Bachelor of Applied Finance and joined Macquarie International in 2013 as one of the Regional Assistants. Originally from China, Elliott speaks Mandarin. With excellent academic performance, he is honoured to be selected as a subcommittee member of Macquarie University Merit Scholarship Program. Elliott’s interests are photography, music and travel.

Pacific Kim Chi Hoang Student Regional Assistant, International - Vietnam, Japan, Laos, Cambodia kim-chi.hoang@mq.edu.au Kim Chi is in her final year of Bachelor of Commerce – Professional Accounting. As a Vietnamese speaker, She has been working in Macquarie International as a key contact for new students as well as current students from specific countries. Apart from her work and studies, she is an active member for Macquarie Overseas Vietnamese, a volunteer for Mentors@Macquarie, The Buddy Program and currently also an intern for Enactus Macquarie working on Green Minds Project. Vania Lijaya Student Regional Assistant, International - Indonesia, Philippines vania.lijaya@mq.edu.au Vania is originally from Indonesia and currently studying Masters of International Relations and Trade & Commerce Law at Macquarie University. Vania comes to Macquarie with a law background, having graduated from Gadjah Mada University with a Bachelor of Business Law. She has a wealth of experience in the field of Foreign Affairs having worked for five years as a ‘junior diplomat’ in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. She is a current Australia Awardee scholarship student.

Latin America Javier Medina Student Regional Assistant, International javier.medina@mq.edu.au Javier is responsible for giving assistance to the Pacific team, mainly to Latin America and for supporting Country Managers with marketing activities and to provide assistance to students with general enquiries. He has worked in Mexico and Australia and is experienced in sales, marketing and international business. Javier is a postgraduate student at Macquarie University and is expecting to finish his degree in Environmental Planning by early 2016.
