Traditional Gables at Pathmanabapuram Palace.

The compound wall is strictly organic catering to the function just perfectly. The wavy curvy design is inspired by the waves of the ocean, to which anyone can make a spiritual connect. The coping is reinforced with tensile rods. Half bricks are provided for the mass and plastered and finished smoothly on the outside. This also derives inspiration from the traditional coping walls which are smoothened to prevent water lagging on top of the wall.

The staircase (left) is a characteristic style of the architect. The balcony (top) on which I have been working on is one of the striking features of the traditional house. The rafters of the building are majority teak. There was a huge variety of wood which was imported for the project

The gable (left) is almost complete and one of the most intricate woodwork details which I was working on. After 1 year of design changes, the gable is now in place. The lift roof slab (above) is doubly reinforced. The slab is designed for the load specified in the shop drawing provided by the lift company.

The centre courtyard has panai (palm tree) eave (rafter tail). The wood has a rich dark texture with grainy black spines.

The Columns are sculpted and shaped with cement.

The rear staircase for which the steel railing was designed. The railing for the balcony was also done

The project has a lot of traditional elements like the one constructed above - Pomugam.

The structural design of Madhan’s was also done by the firm. These photos are taken after the column beam layout was given and finished. There was a major mistake of increasing the ceiling height up by 12 cms. I was asked to do the plinth beam layout. The residence is in the city centre, with interesting sustainable concepts including an indoor rainforest.

Thangassery Harbour Project, Kollam

The above picture shows the entire site of the Tangassery harbour site. This is a 5 crore project. Currently waiting for execution. The picture (left) shows the fishing boats waiting inside the breakwaters.

The project makes use of the already existing buildings in site. Used as a guest house and information centre. The existing weigh bridge was proposed to be removed

The site is blessed with a lush green wild overgrowth. This natural vegetation will be completely involved in the landscaping of the park.

The proposed park site, Actually a plain grass cover. The proposed seating and pathways will be distributed all over the park.

The main attraction, the breakwaters stretch will act as a walking / jogging track and will be dotted with activity areas. . The pinnacle of the design is the end viewpoint.

The old ancestral residence of Dr. Baiju is in Trivandrum. The entire building has to be conserved yet renovated at the same time. The existing building has undergone many changes.

The building has lot of traditional components. There are a lot of false ceilings. But overall the maintanence is lacking and appearan is displeasing.

Dr. Baiju’s Residence, Thiruvananthapuram

Presently the building is used as a wedding hall for serving food.

The building was done by one of Laurie Baker’s followers.

The structure is a work of Mr. Devan, a follower of Baker’s ideals. The hall will be transformed into an art gallery. The entire interior surface area will be cladded with Calcium Silicate board.

Art Gallery Kollam,

Extensive usage of coffer slabs can be seen.
