I like to be challenged with new adventures, it forces me to learn new things, to experiment frequently, to experience. I am very passionate about design innovation and would be thankful to work in the Nike environment and learn from the creative directors. Working for Nike will be a new challenge that I am more than willing to accept. I believe it will help me visually execute concepts and put me in the real action sport mentality. Being with very creative people not only keeps me inspired but helps me grow into a better designer.
A B O U T ME
I am an Arizona Chicano living in Laguna Beach. I currently attend Laguna College of Art of Design to pursue my BFA in Design + Digital Media, with an emphasis in Actions Sports. My interest in design is applying user experience to the everyday human interaction. I have design experience working with visual agency, Column Five, and worked with action sports brands such as Loser Machine, Dark Seas, and Thalia Surf. I take great pride of my Mexican heritage, being a citizen in both the U.S. and Mexico. My work has been featured on Inc.com, Thalia Surf, CNN, and Buzzfeed. Aside from design, I enjoy listening to fast punk music, watching futbol, street tacos, and lots of star wars. I hope to one day run a cat rescue farm.

/01 ENV IS ION ™ PA IN T PAC KAGING
The ENVISION™ is a new product line by BEHR® that offers limited edition colors inspired by the Constructivism art movement. With origins in Russia, it rejected the idea of the traditional artistic concern with composition, and replace it with “construction.” Instead it favored art as a careful technical analysis of modern materials, and it was hoped that this investigation would eventually yield ideas that could be put to use in mass production, serving the ends of a new modern society.

I decided to have ENVISION™ part of a collaboration product between BEHR® and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). LACMA will house a constructivist inspired interactive display that allows buyer to select and order paint from the colors of constructivist art piece.

T HE R USSI AN CO NSTRUCTI VI SM Rather than focusing on the concerns with composition, it focus more on the construction of art. Analysis of modern materials were taken by artists as they hoped to yield ideas that could be put into mass production to serve a modern and Communist society. It impacted architecture, graphic and industrial design, theatre, film, dance, fashion and to some extent music.

THE FIRST SUSTAINABLE I NTERACTI VE TENNI S BALL Tennis balls have been a huge problem in disposable waste, 300 million are produced each year and they aren’t easily biodegradable. Vinna™ is the first interactive sustainable tennis ball for pro athletes. They are more durable and can be sent back to be re-pressured. With rapidbounce™ technology, it allows players to track there hit points via mobile application. The app will allow players to compare themselves with friends and pro athletes, it also informs the social impact Vinna™ has made compared to regular tennis balls

T H E P E R S O NAL F OL LOW IN G DRON E Action sports athletes are already using POV cameras to capture their exploits, but they are limited primarily to a first-person perspective. Wouldn’t it be great if you could gain an aerial perspective of your activities without the need of a specialized crew? REFLEX™ is an app that utilizes gps, drone and bluetooth technology in addition to a GoPro camera to automatically capture aerial footage of action sports athletes. The app is designed have a telemetry monitoring system, functional editing interface and integrated opportunity for sharing videos via inapp social network and external networks (ex: YouTube, Vimeo, Tumblr + Facebook)

THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR CARTEL HAD TROUBLE KEEPING UP WITH THE COMPETITION. IN ORDER TO GAIN SUPPORT AND POWER, THEY TURNED TO LOCAL CIVILIANS AND BECAME REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MICHOACAN. THEY FOUGHT AGAINST DRUG TRAFFICKING AND ELIMINATED CERTAIN COMPETITORS THAT WERE CONSIDERED A GREAT THREAT. THEY OFFERED SOCIAL SERVICES SUCH AS ADDICT RECOVERY PROGRAMS AND PERSECUTING LOCAL CRIMINALS.

GL I TC H A R T This project was part of the Hurley sponsored class at LCAD. Corrupted seas is a new boardshort line that I developed. Nature is unpredictable, much like the outcome of glitch art. Corrupted seas makes the connection between the two. I hand glitched all the patterns. This was part of a Hurley collaboration that soon went into production.

I NS P IRAT IO N Mobile Suit Gundam is a Japanese animated series that features giant robots called “Mobile Suits”. Since it’s debut in 1979, the series has buil a huge market for different mobile suit toys, kits, movies, video games and much more. Each character had their own distinct Mobile suit that varied in color and created a community of hobbyists. Gundam was popularized in the U.S. when Gundam Wing was released in 2000 on Cartoon Network’s Toonami. There is a main conflict fought between two sides, the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation. Each side has major characters along with their own symbolic Gundams.

C H AR’S Z AKU Char Aznable is the most iconic villain in the Gundam series. He maneuvers the Red Zaku that leads the Zion army. The armor resembles the regular olive green Zaku, but with slight modifications. His battle driven attitude was what inspired the tiger camo pattern.

C H A R ’ S Z A KU PAT T E R N The Principality of Zeon is related to tactical warfare. I explored through variations of camouflages and Gundam illustrations. I collaged them to form a pattern. For Char’s Zaku, I used a red tiger camo to express the battle-driven character.

GO RI LLA WARFARE PATTERN In Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, the Zakus were seen fighting gorilla warfare in the jungles of Southeast Asia. The plants and trees served great coverage for them which was the main inspiration of the Zaku pattern.

T HE RX-78 GUNDAM The RX-78 Gundam is driven by the series’ famous protagonist, Ray Amuro, whose archenemy is Char of Zeon. His Gundam is seen as the predecessor of many other protagonists in the series.

In the 1950’s, Godzilla made it’s debut. It has since become a pop culture icon appearing in many sequels along with new enemy giant monsters. Most of Godzilla’s old vintage movie posters were very retrofuture inspired and with the new recent installment of Godzilla, I felt this would be a better direction.
DEMOGRAPHICS:
The Gojira line is targeted for the young adult demographics that are current with street fashion exposed on Hypebeast and /Highsnobiety. They wear floral button ups and snapback hats. They have good taste in shoes and admire collaborations. - Ages 18 to 30 - Wears floral and patterns. - Hangs in little tokyo . - Attends art galleries. - Stays current with Highsnobiety. - Wears Obey, Stussy, etc.

MONSTER BATTLE DI SPLAY The Gojira display is inspired by the Godzilla poster art that showcase the intense battles in the movie. I wanted to present that in a Vans store.

The embroidery of Oaxaca is hand crafted by Mexican housewives. Mainly flowers, leaves, and birds, the motifs were inspired by the figures in archtecture of the churches built more than 200 years ago and have since been passed on through generations of family. This line also clashes with Mexican art, especially that of Frida Kahlo.
DEMOGRAPHICS: The targeted demographics for Señora is for the college graduate that has just started their career path. They have time in their schedule to do yoga and do other art crafts. Some are getting married and are starting a family. They are very free spirited and take handmade items to heart.

INSPI RATI O N This Vans line works as tribute to my family and my heritage. The Vaquero (Mexican Cowboy) line is essentially influenced by the Mexican belt embroidery called “Piteado�. This type of embroidery technique involves leather garments such as belts and saddle being embroidered with white pita fiber.
