Date of proposal: Febr 18, 2010

Delivery date: Apr 06, 2010

Practice: Each group will study an existing building (a pavilion in all cases, in a more constructive than strictly architectural sense) proposed by the teacher. The study will consist of a brief historical introduction to the building, a short description, a graphical analysis (general and detailed, when necessary), and a description, written and drawn, of the strategies used in its design and construction, always bearing in mind construction processes (assembly and disassembly, in cases where relevant), structure and enclosure.

Documents to submit: Each group will deliver a single digital document, which must include a precise geometrical definition of the building, brief historical introduction to the building, a short description, a graphical analysis (general and detailed, when necessary), and a description, written and drawn, of the strategies used in its design and construction, always bearing in mind construction processes (assembly and disassembly, in cases where relevant), structure and enclosure. Be submitted basic information only. All drawings and details will be properly defined. The study will justify the appropriateness of the strategies adopted. Bibliografy: In addition to chapter 4 of the handbook (Buildings: Selected Projects, in Deplazes 2009 pages 323-446) specific bibliography has been recommended for each group. In addition the following books are recommended: Addis, B. Building: 3000 Years of Design Engineering and Construction. Phaidon Press. London, 2007. Allen, E. Fundamentals of building construction. Materials and methods. John Wiley & sons. Oxford, 2005. Allen, E. How buildings work. The Natural Order of Architecture. Oxford University Press. Oxford, 2005.
