There is huge confusion over the architectural descriptions of Modern or Contemporary styling. Here are the facts:
• Modern architecture refers to styles approximately from the 1920s to the 1950s. Clean and simple lines, with no historical styles. Form follows function, emphasis on geometry and sometimes industrial materials with highly functional spaces. Modern architecture created a new language of design, it embraced new materials and emerging construction techniques.
• Contemporary architecture refers to present day architectural styles. It is an evolving style that adapts to changing environments of the year of build. It is open to incorporating difference architectural elements in a modern context. Contemporary architects aim to incorporate energy efficiency, sustainable materials and where possible eco-friendly environments. This is an ever-evolving style that reflects the design and technologies of the time of build!
