Summer On Festival
Ten years of music and summer vibes
In June 2025, the Summer On Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary, a decade of music and summer vibes in Båstad. From a local initiative, the festival has grown into one of Sweden’s most renowned music events, drawing thousands of visitors each year who come to enjoy beach life, vibrant atmosphere, and world-class live performances.
The festival was founded by Måns Zelmerlöw, Fredrik Olofson, and Fredrik Strebel, with the latter serving as festival director since its inception in 2015. The original idea was to create a weekend specifically for young people – both locally and from across the country – and showcase everything Båstad has to offer. Today, that vision has been fully realized. “We wanted more people to discover how much fun you can have in Båstad. Now, ten years later, we’ve become one of Sweden’s biggest boutique festivals,” says Fredrik Strebel.
Boutique with an ocean view
Summer On playfully brands itself as “Sweden’s most stylish festival,” a title that the festival team attributes equally to the unique location as to the event itself. The opportunity to swim between
performances, enjoy lunch at the beach restaurant, and then stand front-row at the stage – few festivals offer this kind of intimacy. The festival area is located right in the harbor, within walking distance of hotels, clubs, and the sea, creating a weekend that blends seamlessly with the town.
Unforgettable moments
Over the years, there have been many memorable performances—from Hov1’s and Mares’ first festival appearances to international acts like Steve Aoki. Yet for Fredrik Strebel, one aspect stands out above all:
“The best memory? Seeing people having a genuinely great time. That makes it all worthwhile.”
A festival fully grown, yet still growing
For the anniversary year, surprises and a lineup filled with Swedish and international favorites are expected. The 2025 lineup includes names such as Axwell, Miriam Bryant, Bolaget, and Timmy Trumpet.
Even though the festival is well established, its development isn’t over. Rather than expanding in size, the team is focused on enhancing quality and creating even more around the festival area.
“We want to maintain the intimate atmosphere while continuously evolving the overall experience – so there’s always something new for our visitors,” Fredrik says.

Sixth generation on the farm
For six generations, Anna-Karin Nilsson’s family has lived and worked on their farm outside Västra Karup. When Anna-Karin and Nils took over in the mid-90s, it became their turn to guide the family farm into a new era, combining preservation with significant development.
You’ll find them all over the peninsula. Suddenly, around a curve, there’s a shop, café, or small business owner who has discovered the beauty of living and working in one of the most beautiful places imaginable.
Whether this was the vision Anna-Karin and Nils Nilsson had when they opened their little farm shop, Tant Grön, in 1998 isn’t entirely clear. But preserving the old family farm was definitely their intention, and the empty space became perfect for a small store, initially offering primarily vegetables and homegrown raspberries.
“Raspberries actually started being grown here on the farm in the fifties along with blackcurrants sold to Findus,” says Nils. “Later, we began selling directly ourselves, which we continued when we took over.”
Today, the raspberry fields are no longer there, and the little farm shop has evolved into something entirely different. Vegetables made way for a delicatessen with over a hundred varieties of cheeses, cured meats, and flavors from around the world. Nearly fifteen years ago, in the old stable next door, Elin Arvid opened—a clothing boutique named after Elin and
Arvid Andersson, who lived on the farm a century ago. The most recent addition was the Bjäre Peninsula market hall, which opened two summers ago. What drives the Nilssons to invest so much? “Our goal is to keep the farm alive, and step by step, we’ve wanted to fill it with new experiences for our customers,” Anna-Karin smiles. “When we have events like our autumn market today, people wander among the shops, market hall, and exhibitors. Food trucks also often join, bringing the farm fully to life.”
One unique aspect of the Bjäre Pen-
naturally evolved. Anna-Karin primarily manages Tant Grön and its culinary offerings, while Nils oversees the premises and particularly the clothing boutique, which is especially close to this stylish gentleman’s heart.
“But locally-produced clothing might be tricky,” laughs the visiting reporter, quickly corrected by Nils. Jackets from Sir of Sweden and sweaters from Brilliant Cashmere are indeed local, even if not sewn or knitted on Bjäre.
“For us, working locally is second nature,” says Anna-Karin. “It’s always been that way, and always will be, as we don’t know anything else.”
“But the term ‘local’ can stretch a bit,” Nils adds. “Hansen & Jacob, available in Elin Arvid, is based in Helsingborg, very local considering how global the clothing industry is today.”
” We’d planned the market hall for many years.

ANNO 1907
It all began with Nobel
Båstad Tennis Stadium was founded by Ludwig Nobel, nephew of Alfred Nobel, who established a tennis court in 1907 on what is now the Centre Court. In 1925, Båstad hosted the Swedish tennis championships. King Gustaf V (Mr. G) regularly visited and played tennis here, and the Swedish Open has been held at the stadium since 1948, making it one of the ATP Tour’s oldest tournaments.
BJÖRN BORG
A legend steps in
In 1974, a young Björn Borg stepped onto the court in Båstad—and the crowd sensed something great was happening. With his icy calm and powerful play, he mesmerized fans and shaped tennis history. Borg won the men’s singles, laying the foundation for Sweden’s golden era in tennis. Båstad became a stage where stars were born.
TENNIS STADIUM
A modern classic
In 2002, the new tennis stadium opened in Båstad – a place where tradition meets future. With the sea as a backdrop and stands filled with passionate fans, it quickly became one of the most beloved venues on the ATP Tour – an amphitheater for tennis at its finest.

August 1973. Count Sigvard, Crown Prince Carl Gustaf, Prince Bertil, and Count Carl Johan playing golf at Båstad Golf Club between visits to Helsingborg, where King Gustav VI Adolf was hospitalized.
History of golf
Over a century of golf on Bjäre
Bjäre Peninsula boasts a rich golfing heritage, with more than a century of play. In 1930, Båstad Golf Club opened its 18-hole course, making it Sweden’s second oldest golf course. Royal visitors such as King Gustav V and Prince Sigvard have enjoyed both the game and the scenic views.
While Båstad Golf Club proudly holds the peninsula’s oldest course, Torekov Golf Club is older as an organization, established in 1924, making it Sweden’s fourth oldest club. Initially located just south of the village, by spring 1938 a more suitable area north of Torekov was found. Members hired a large steamroller from the local road administration to flatten the land, and by the summer of 1938, the new course was inaugurated and hosted its first competitions.
However, the peninsula’s earliest competitions occurred several years earlier. Båstad Golf Club organized its first Golf Week in 1930, an annual tradition ever since, initially inviting both men and women players from England.
For many years, Båstad and Torekov remained Bjäre’s only golf clubs. However, in the late 1980s, golf’s popularity surged nationwide, doubling the peninsula’s clubs within a year. First was Bjäre Golf Club, which broke ground on February 7, 1989, opening in August 1990. At Salomonhög, at an elevation of 149 meters, historical traces date back to prehistoric times, with eight Bronze Age graves recorded.
The same year, 1990, Åkagårdens Golf Club completed its initial 9 holes and proudly expanded to an 18-hole course soon after. Designed by Swedish architect Jan Sederholm, the course takes full advantage of the area’s naturally rolling terrain. It took another decade before
Sönnertorps Golf Club opened its 12-hole course in 2001, designed by Tommy Nordström.
The peninsula’s latest addition, Äppelgården Golf Club, unveiled its first 9 holes in 2004 and completed its full 18hole course three years later. Previously farmland until the mid-1960s, apple trees planted in 1977 still stand today, offering numerous varieties for tasting.
In preparation for the 2025 season, Äppelgården has transformed into a disc golf course, bringing the total number of golf holes on the peninsula to an impressive 108.

Norrviken
An oasis for all senses
With views over the sea and nestled in greenery between Båstad and the Hallandsåsen ridge lies Norrviken—one of summer’s most diverse destinations for those seeking nature, culture, design, culinary delights, and garden inspiration all in one place. A haven for all ages, where history and the present meet in vibrant surroundings, from historic styled gardens to the contemporary cultural center RAVINEN.
Norrviken offers something for everyone: seven unique styled gardens to explore, a wide range of exhibitions, concerts, and events, flavorful dining at Orangeriet restaurant, Boutique Norrviken featuring curated design, a signature collection, and antiques—and perhaps the season’s most peaceful and scenic environment.
This year’s theme – “Masterful Encounters” – runs like a red thread through the garden’s seasonal programming. It’s about the meeting of nature and art, past and present, people and expression. A striking example is the exhibition Wedding in Bloom, where acclaimed fashion designer Frida Jons-
vens presents a one-of-a-kind wedding gown created specifically for the garden—a creative fusion of couture and blossoming landscape. Other highlights include Birds, a photography exhibit by Tim Flach, and In the Weave of Creation—sculptural fashion from some of Sweden’s top designers.
New for the season is the Molin Garden Room—a reimagined tribute to garden icon Ulla Molin. The space invites reflection and serenity and is predicted to become one of this summer’s most beloved sources of inspiration for home gardeners. For the curious, there are also guided plant hunts and an audio-guided birdwalk through the woodland trail
along the ridge, developed in collaboration with the Wildlife Garden. Among the summer’s big highlights are the international motor event The Aurora and a series of atmospheric concerts including a performance by world-renowned artist Norah Jones. Don’t miss the traditional Midsummer celebration—a joyful blend of Swedish summer spirit and Norrviken’s one-of-akind setting.
At RAVINEN Cultural Center, part of Norrviken, this summer’s program includes the exhibition Striking Moments by renowned contemporary artist Charlotte Gyllenhammar. RAVINEN brings together art, music, and design in
a vibrant space for all ages. Visitors are welcomed by an inspiring lineup of stage performances, concerts, and cultural events. In August, RAVINEN also joins the Birgit Nilsson Festival, hosting masterclasses and world-class concerts in its auditorium. It’s the perfect place to sit back and take a break. The Café & Bistro serves seasonal, well-prepared dishes and local beverages in a minimalist and calming atmosphere—a natural extension of the cultural experience.
Don’t miss Chocolaterian either, offering Italian gelato, irresistible pralines, and light lunches.
Norrviken is more than a place—it’s an experience. A destination for stillness,
discovery, taste, and creativity. For the whole family, for the life enthusiast, and the curious explorer. This summer, expect new impressions and masterful encounters in one of Skåne’s most colorful settings.
All exhibitions and events are listed at norrvikenbastad.se.

Harbour life in Båstad & Torekov
There’s something special about the atmosphere of a harbour on a summer’s day. The peaceful lapping of the sea against the quay blends with the lively energy of people gathering from near and far—to go crab fishing, enjoy a bite at a local restaurant, or simply grab an ice cream and watch the world go by.
Here on the Bjäre Peninsula, we’re proud to boast not one, but two charming harbour areas in Båstad and Torekov, each offering world-class experiences. The harbours of Bjäre date back to the Middle Ages. In fact, Båstad was once called “Boatstäde” in 15th-century records, meaning “boat place.” Over time, it became Båtstad before finally evolving into the modern-day Båstad.
Though the distance between Båstad and Torekov is short – by boat or car – the experience of each harbour is distinct. Båstad has a more continental feel, with the beach just a stone’s throw from outdoor cafés and what may be the world’s most beautiful tennis venue nearby. Skansenbadet is the beach directly below the hotel and Badkrukan’s beach club – perfect for a swim or simply lounging in a sun chair with a refreshing drink.
Year-round, visitors can enjoy Båstad’s iconic cold bathhouse, located 60 meters out in Laholm Bay. A dip in the sea followed by a warming sauna is a true local ritual—many claim that the colder the water, the better the experience.
Torekov’s harbour is smaller and located right next to the village. Down by the harbour square, not much has changed in the last hundred years. This is also the departure point for boats to Hallands Väderö – or simply “the island,” as it’s known locally.
Whichever harbour you prefer, rest assured you’ll find a wealth of restaurants and experiences for the whole family. During the summer, pop-up shops, food trucks, and exciting events add even more charm.
Don’t miss Torekov Harbour Festival from July 17–19, featuring everything from sea rescue demos and fashion shows to dance performances—and of course, a large festival tent with food and drinks.

Hallands Väderö
A timeless oasis of nature and stillness
There are places that seem to exist in another time. Hallands Väderö, just off the coast of Torekov, is one such place. The island draws visitors with its untouched nature, rich history, and a stillness that few other places can offer. Here, there are no noisy roads or buzzing phones – only the whispering wind and the sound of waves breaking on the rocks.
Nature’s treasure chest
Hallands Väderö is a paradise for those who appreciate the beauty of nature. The island is a protected nature reserve and offers rare biodiversity. Ancient beech forests grow alongside gnarled juniper trees and lush pastures. Vibrant orchids bloom in summer, while hardy coastal plants endure the wind and salt all year long.
The island’s wildlife is just as impressive. Seals rest on the skerries just offshore, and with luck, you may spot a sea eagle overhead. It’s also a dream for birdwatchers, with everything from tiny waders to majestic birds of prey.
Echoes of the past
Hallands Väderö has a rich history dating back centuries. During the Middle Ages, it was used for grazing, and by the 1500s,
it had a permanent settlement. In more recent times, the island played an important role in seafaring. For generations, the lighthouse keepers at Väderön’s beacon have guided sailors along the coast. Today, you can walk between old fishing cabins and lighthouse buildings, imagining the simple lives once lived here. The lighthouse, still standing proudly by the sea, is a lasting symbol of the era when seafarers relied on its reassuring light.
The power of silence
What perhaps most defines Hallands Väderö is its silence. In a world where noise never seems to fade, the island offers a rare chance to truly listen to nature – the rhythmic crash of waves, the breeze through the trees, the call of birds. It’s a place where the soul finds peace. This stillness is what makes Hallands
Väderö a sanctuary for reflection and restoration. Whether you come to hike the trails, swim in crystal-clear coves, or simply sit on a rock and let your thoughts wander, the island gives you an unmatched sense of timelessness.
A place to return to
Hallands Väderö becomes a place to which they return again and again. The island remains the same year after year, yet each visit brings new experiences. The light changes, the waves reshape the shoreline, and the birds sing new songs. Hallands Väderö is a place where time moves slower. A place to breathe, to live – and to simply be.
Väderötrafiken operates summer boat trips to the island from both Båstad and Torekov.

The Bjäre Coast
Drama, serenity & cinema history by the sea
The Bjäre Coast offers an unbeatable combination of wild nature, quiet beauty and film history. Here, where the primeval rock meets the sea at Hovs Hallar, magnificent views, challenging hikes and stories from both the Bronze Age and Bergman films await.
At the far edge of the Bjäre Peninsula lies one of Skåne’s most dramatic landscapes – The Bjäre Coast. Here, ancient bedrock rises from the foaming sea at Hovs Hallar. Cliffs, cobble fields, and cave-like rock formations create a striking backdrop against the sea. The views from the Skåneleden Trail, which runs along the edge, are nothing short of spectacular. The area is ideal for short but challenging circular hikes along numerous unmarked paths.
Swim from the rocks, picnic in peace, or enjoy hiking adventures
As you continue south toward Torekov, the landscape changes. Open coastal meadows and grazing lands stretch out, and the walking becomes easier. At Norrebro Harbour, seals often rest on the rocks while birdwatchers scan
for rare seabirds. Even porpoises have been spotted in the nutrient-rich waters, where the seabed shifts from sand to gravel to stone. Amid this coastal scenery lie the impressive burial cairns known as Gröthögarna—Bronze Age stone mounds that remind us people have lived here for thousands of years, drawn by the sea, fertile soil, and strategic location.
But Hovs Hallar and Bjärekusten are
known not only for their dramatic natural beauty—they are also part of film history. Here, Ingmar Bergman filmed the iconic scene from The Seventh Seal (1957), where the knight Antonius Block plays chess with Death on a windswept beach. In recognition of its cinematic significance, Hovs Hallar was awarded the title Treasure of European Film Culture by the European Film Academy in 2017—a tribute to its unique place in European film history.
TIP: Start your adventure at Hovs Hallar, where there’s parking, restrooms, and a café. Or why not stay a night or two at Hovs Hallar Hotel & Restaurant?
TIP: Take the Väderö boat from Båstad harbour, rounding the peninsula for an unbeatable view of the Hovs Hallar cliffs from the sea before continuing on to Hallands Väderö.
