Summer is here ya’ll! Yes, anytime the temperature reaches eighty degrees it’s summer in my book! And when it’s that hot, people start taking off their clothes, and there’s plenty of eye candy around to please the optic sense. So, let’s just see who in Metraland has the hottest parties planned, starting with Michigan this time.
…MICHIGAN ‘Millie Metra” wants you to join MDSL in supporting “ALMOST HOME” an animal rescue league dedicated to finding loving forever homes for homeless animals. For the month of June MDSL are raising monies for this shelter, and in July they will have drop boxes at both Borden Park and Helen Allen Park in Rochester Hills on Sunday’s when the MDSL play. These boxes will be for needed items: Natural Chicken and Rice dog food, Cat food, $$ -(tax deductible), Fostering Volunteers, and both Dog and Cat treats, beds, blankets, cages, leashes, toys, and collars, just about everything I’d say, and its all deductible because “ALMOST HOME” is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. On August 1st it will be Adoption Day at Borden Park, where the shelter will bring the adoptable animals out to try and find them loving homes. 14 Metra Magazine, Issue #747
Now another bit of information is, the Michigan International GAY Rodeo Association presents “The Greater Motown International Rodeo” on June 25-27 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in beautiful Belleville, Michigan. Also the West Michigan Pride Fest 2010 will be at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 19th from 11am until 10pm, so come out and have fun! AUT BAR (Ann Arbor, (734-994-3677), in the Braum Court Patio is the perfect place for gathering with old friends or meeting new ones. They also have a Saturday brunch, a Sunday brunch or dinner. BACKSTREET (THE WORKS) (313-9611742), has moved, it’s at Rosa Parks Blvd. and 1846 Michigan Ave. Downtown in the old “Corktown” district, two blocks from old Tiger Stadium, where The WORKS bar is! And will continue with their traditional Saturdays and maybe Wednesdays. There will be a lot of events at the New Backstreet/Works.
For example, starting SUNDAY, JUNE 13th and every Sunday afterwards it’s “SUNDAY HEAT” at The Works with house music by DJ Tony Peoples, DJ Marquis and DJ Dream also with special entertainment by DIVA (June 13 & July 4), also the talents of Jerry Juan, Simon Black, and Lue Lue, from 8:30-2:30 and cover is only $7.00! So from what we understand the location is now called Backstreet/ Works. Details to come later! BODY ZONE (313-366-9663), has that fabulous “BLACK-OUT Party” on Friday, June 11th. Then on Saturday, June 19 it’s “LEATHER NIGHT” with $5 lockers for members in Chaps or Harness. And on Saturday, June 26th it’s “COLLEGE NIGHT” with $5 lockers for members 18-25 and also remember they have FREE tanning Sundays–Thursdays with the purchase of room or locker. ESCAPE (313-366-6558), the “Adult” bookstore located at 18728 W. Warren in Detroit just 8 blocks west of Southfield Freeway and across from the Adam’s Apple bar is open Mondays-Saturdays from 10am to Midnight and Sundays from Noon-Midnight. The carry all the latest releases. GIGI’S (313-584-6525), on Monday, June 14 it’s the Second Annual “LATIN NIGHT” presented by Gigi’s as well as Midwest AIDS Coalition (M.A.C.) with Chico & the Boy’s and along with Uber-talented Nickki Stevens! Also they’ll have another fantastic special buffet as only Gigi’s can do, in the lower level. Coming up on Saturday, June 26 it’s the “Royal Court Of Michigan Pageants” with 4 titles in 1 night. The doors open at 8pm and the pageant begins at 9pm, reservations will be held
until 8:30pm. When it’s hot it’s HAYLOFT SALOON (313-581-8913), time with happy hour 3pm9pm everyday! They also have lower happy hour prices too! Also on the same night it’s “An Evening Out” with Higher Ground, a night of fun and entertainment provided for members of the HIV+ community. Then on Saturday, June 12th MIGRA presents “Tight Fittin’ Jeans Party” with a Hot Buns & Basket Contest, hosted by Mike Shannon MR. MIGRA and DJ Doug Roberts. Friday, June 18th it’s “PRIVATE JOY”! And coming up on Saturday, June 19th it will be the Official Crowning of Miss Menjo’s 2010/2011 Natalie Cole at 10:30pm! All proceeds will go to the Ruth Ellis House, also its Noe & Charlie’s Birthday Bash! And a Big congrats to Menjo’s Royal Court! Mondays at Menjo’s is “KARAOKE” with DJ Noe and Tori Lynn.
