New Years Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, where many people dance, eat, drink alcoholic beverages and watch or light fireworks to mark the New Year. The celebrations generally go on past midnight into January 1st (oh crap! Nobody told me you had to stop on the 1st) The Romans dedicated New Year’s Day to Janus, the god of gates, doors and beginnings for whom the first day of the year (January) is also named. After Julius Caesar reformed the calendar in 42 BC and was subsequently murdered for it, The Rome Senate voted to deity (it means to make him a god) him on the 1st January 46 BC in honor of his life and the institution of the new rationalized calendar. Bla Bla Bla enough of the history lesson! OK folks I’m letting you know right now that whenever you see NYE or NYD that will mean New Years Eve or New Years Day. I can’t sit in front of this computer all day, I’m so popular, and I’ve been invited to so many parties! I have to figure out which ones I’m going to grace with my presents!
