THE QARIN Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim
_Az-Zukhruf, 43: 62_ “And never let Satan avert you. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.”
Introduction And it all begins in 2010, after the event of the tug of war between the administration where I work and myself to test my imaan. Allah created an event in august 2010 following that of 216 Victoria Hotel which was in the lime lights during that year. The battle against the Godless system and Allah’s authority was meant to be a crucial test of sincerity and loyalty to the Almighty God. And it took placed during the Holy month of Ramadan, the 20th august 2010 in the mosque of the Central Jail at Beau Bassin. I was not allowed to go on vacation during the month of fasting although one year before I have applied for thirty days of vacation leave. But finally, after sincere invocations for Divine intervention, the Supreme Evidence occurs which prevails upon the twarut system. Since then, events of such intensity, which opposed the Godless-rulers to the Godfearing servants took place in each month of Ramadan so as to leave a clear evidence for those who witness the challenging fight. Each year since 2010, I won each battle with the help of Almighty God, building in my spiritual strength. But since then, I was facing tough battles against our enemy iblis. I couldn’t understand why…and then I remember that my amir and teacher told me about Qarin. A word that he first mentioned in the mosque of the Dar UlMaarif school at Curepipe. Since then, my life turned upside down because I could find any clues, any references concerning the Qarin. With hard work and research, I have finally come to the conclusion that this is the most important thing to remember, because the Qarin is like a chip, an electronic device implanted by iblis to negatively control mankind and to astray men to the hell fire. In order to understand the implication of that threat, we should study the function of mankind on earth first. May Allah guides us through this research and helps us to understand which might perhaps be the most ultimate danger since the creation of Adam(A.S).
What is a Human Being?
In the Name Of God, The Most Merciful, The Most Gracious
Billions of human beings all around the world, are living a material life unconsciously. Few of them know their function, their abilities and capacities to operate and how they react upon information and influences. The human being has a body. Mind and soul, as every common people knows about, but it is not only enough for a man to be functional as he is created to be. The human being is comprised of a body, mind, a soul(Divine Soul), a Qarin(Evil Soul), Nafs(Desires), but most of all, the human being has an ability to reason, to think, using his intellect.
The body With biological features, the body which the Creator allows us to have in this fourth dimensional world, operates with total control and submission by Allah’s leave. Most people think that they are in control of their body but in fact we are not owner of even our movements. If someone observes the evolvement of his body, from head to toe, he will see that not even the growth of his hair nor the nail of his toe is being controlled by him. For example, if someone shaves his head, he will never be able to command and control the growth nor the color of it. More amazing is the twinkle of the eye or the beat of the heart which operate autonomously.
The divide soul The soul is a gift of God, the Creator of all things, whom himself has the knowledge of it. But we know that food for the soul is spirituality and righteousness. Every creatures on earth has life in them: a tree(plant) living by water, sun and minerals from earth; an animal will live with food from nature and water; when they both reach their term of existence on earth, they won’t be reinstated, resurrected to be accountable for their actions in this world. Whereas the human being has a soul which has been granted by Allah for us to serve a specific purpose: to worship God exclusively with consciousness and awareness, and through reasoning.
The Qarin The Qarin also known as “the demon inside”, a.k.a. “the devil within”, a.k.a. “the alter ego”.
The demon inside every human being which accompanied an angel, who is in charge of placing the soul(Ruh) on hundred and twenty days(120) in the womb of the mother. The Qarin whom we don’t know the exact age, stays in the fetus and as it grows into a baby, still stays into the child until birth. This creature of evil tendencies occupies the body of the child as he grows into a man. It is only at his death that the Qarin is separated from the human body and on the day of judgement you will find your Qarin standing next to you. The evil companion makes mischief, and causes evil to appear as something good to oneself, and whispers to people to commit sins. ‘Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud(R.A) narrated that the Prophet(S.A.W.) said: “Satan exercises his influence (upon him); the influence of Satan is that he holds the promise of evil and denial the truth. And the influence of an angel is that he holds the promise of good news and the affirmation of truth. Thus, he who perceives this (i.e, the good promise) should praise God, while he who finds contrary to it, he should seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed. He (S.A.W.) then recited this verse: (Satan threatens you with the prospect of poverty, and bids you to be indecent. Hence, the evil companion orders men to commit evil and mischief and also makes sins and misdeeds appear good to them. The cause and reason for failure in any enterprise for action:(1) Deviation from Allah’s commands and Muhammad’s (S.A.W.) advices. (2) Associations with people not sharing and knowing the same principles of knowledge and conviction as those whom Allah choose to understand about Qarins. (3) Thus, we are deprived from the assistance of Allah and hence we are bound to failure. (4) One of the key issue/factor/danger we face with such people is that they all possess gtheir respective Qarins, of which they are completely unaware, or, if they are aware, they don’t know to control and take it. When such Qarins are operating on such people, although they seem to be sincere, this will affect the result of our partnership and association with them. Then the only result we are bound to get is failure although we have input much efforts and resources to achieve success. N.B:- Don’t forget that such Qarin is under the influence and command of iblis himself. And we know that this avowed enemy of ours have pledged to bring us to destruction and failure in this life as well as the hereafter. Therefore, the issue is of paramount importance if we claim to be seriously aware and conscious.
We can’t afford to play with such danger; we would become a muflis (Bankrupt) – that’s what all iblis wants us to be. So, to eliminate the risk to be muflis, (1) we should avoid contact with all Qarins; (2) we should cut all considerations with all qarins; (3) make duas to tame our Qarin and identify the Qarins of others and their possible attacks.
Qarin; an inseparable companion Surah 43 verse 36:- “He who is negligent to remember the Merciful one, to him we assign a Satan as his boon companion.” Surah 43 verse 37:- “And those Satans(1) hinder them(2) from the right path, while he still reckons himself to be rightly guided.” (1)Satan:- the original Qarin plus the one assigned by Allah make two. Added together they communicate with other Qarins to hinder people. The one assigned by Allah is mostly a person with a strong Qarin who will make friend with the negligent person. (2)Them:- many from among the humans – this means that many of the people will be negligent to remember Allah as The Merciful one, The One to be prayed for mercy, The One who can forgive us and The Only One who can grant us paradise. Surah 43 verse38 :- “But when he comes to Us(1), he will say to his Satan: would that there had been between me and you the distance as between the east and the west. How evil a companion you were!(2) (1)Allah uses present tense “comes” because He wants us to understand that there is no doubt we will surely stand in front of Him for retribution. It is only on that Day of Judgement, that human will be able to see and talk to his demon. (2)Evil companion – Allah confirms that the Qarin is evil and it suggests evil thoughts. Surah 43 verse39:-(He will then be told): “today it will not benefit you the least that after your wrong-doing, you and your satans now share the chastisement(1) (1)Each human being will be told thzt day tht nothing else will matters in terms of gaining something for those who wrongly paved their way to falsehood. They both will end in the fire. Surah 50 verse 27:-“His companion said: O our Lord, I did not incite him to rebel, he was far gone into error of his own accord,(1) (1)TheQarin knows that Human and Jinn have the same Lord. The external influences exist upon the Human Beings by other evil forces. For example: other satans working to astray someone into adultery, it is the Qarins of other persons who will act upon the “NafsUlAmmara” of a person. The NafsUlAmmara is the Nafs that influence people to do evil things. When the person receive the evil influence through his nafs and accept it, the Qarin now operates in him to perform or make into action what he previously received as idea – that is why the Qarin said in this verse:-“I didn’t initially incite the person to rebel…I only give him the idea, and it is he who concretized (made an idea becoming real)it.
Surah 41 verse 25:-“We had assigned to them (the unbelievers) companions(Qarins) who embellished for them all that was before them and behind them. Thus the same decree(of chastisement) which had over taken the previous generations of jinns, human being(also) became due against them. Surely they (both) became the losers.(1) (1) These assigned satans will drive those who do not believe in Allah(by reasoning) in a way that humans will hardly see the evilness of what is before and behind. It is that way satans work to drive unbelievers astray; they take time and use strategies and technologies to embellish haram things and actions. So that human can hardly find out about their tricks, the satans influenced the great scholars and imams of the muslim communities who don’t see the haramness of the weapons used by iblis.
Nafs
There are three kinds of nafs(desires) that Allah placed in mankind in order to test people who will struggle against his nafs for the sake of Allah. The nafs who are creatures created by the Only Creator, always want to lead people astray but if someone controls his desires and does righteous deeds, he can hope to be on the list of those who will taste paradise. Man will earn reward every time he struggles against his nafs or other circumstances to fulfill the will of God. (1) NafsUlAmmara (surah 12 verse 53) (2) NafsUlLuwwama (surah 75 verse 2) (3) NafsUlMutma’inna (surah 89 verse 27) The nafs have the function of always work hard to temp man to act against the Divine Law. And iblis in turn gives added strength to the nafs from outside by tempting mankind, and together with the Qarins, these evil forces join in an ongoing effort to lead people astray by falling into the trap of worshipping the nafs. Everything that takes away from worshipping Allah, falls into the worshipping of the nafs and consequently iblis. Man needs to fight against this, but will never be able to, except by the help of Almighty God.
Different categories of nafs:Nafs is man’s enemy and must be trained, tamed and controlled to be brought to righteousness, by the help of Allah only. (1) NafsulAmmara:- surah 12 verse 53 The Evil Soul (this is how it is commonly known) is the worst category of nafs, in which a person not only commits sin but boasts of his sins and this challenges Allah. It isan animalistic nafs based on instinct that does not care about anything or anyone and is mainly in direct supervision of iblis or other satans ascribed by iblis in pushing people away from Allah. (2) NafsulLuwwama surah 75 verse 2 NafsulLawwama is a stage somewhat improved from this, such that, this type of nafs feels shame when it commits sins and repents to Allah. In the Quran it is called The Reproaching Soul in surah 75 verse 2. Each time people obeys to evil soul and wants to ask forgiveness, immediately falls into sins because of the power that the evil soul has upon the reproaching soul. But the reproaching soul operates when the sin has been committed and when the sin has been known to himself and to other people, the persons feels shame, being reproached permanently. (3) NafsulMutma’inna surah 89 verse 27
NafsulMutma’inna is the soul that takes satisfaction of good deeds and is trained to obey Allah. Those who stick to the Quran and hadith and do righteous deeds, has his nafs remained preoccupied by ways to please Allah. The nafs prevents people from rushing to sins and thus being protected and inspired by Allah to be even more effective in righteousness. This nafs struggles so hard to improve itself that Allah will admit the satisfactory soul to paradise as it its mentioned in chapter 89 verse 27.
Influences There are two kinds of influences that drive a human being to operate and evolve in this worldly life: Divine influence and satanic influence. Without these two influences, a person will operate and evolve through his instinct and base desires as animals do. Divine influence vs Satanic influence Man is influenced and inspired by two influences which will lead to guidance or lead him astray. The Divine influence will act upon his soul, when man seek inspiration, when believing in the oneness of God, reading the Quran, praying five times daily and stand in the middle of the night in front of his Creator for forgiveness. The soul will be fed with positive energy to brighten, enlighten the all body thus achieving higher spiritual degree. Whereas if man does nothing to feed his soul with positiveness, he will be easily influenced by satanic forces which will lead him to actions of insanity. Evil forces will inject ideas of indecency and immorality to the nafs and the Qarins which will overtake the person and drive him to immoral behaviors. Once the person gets the idea of immoral aspect injected in his mind, this person is left with his Qarin and nafs and then formulates how he will be able to convert the idea into concrete actions. inspired by this satanic forces and acts accordingly without any reasoning.
Conclusion Everybody has to know how a human being operates, what are the influences on which he operates and how he can control his nafs and tame his Qarin. But also what can be done for himself to achieve salvation for the pleasure of Allah only. The only thing that is incumbent to Allah is that man is the creature who can reflect, use his reasoning when he is being influenced by the Divine or by Satanic forces.
Hadeeth about Qarin ‘Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud(R.A) reported that Allah’s Messenger(SAW) said:-“ Each one of you has a companion from amongst the jinn and a companion from amongst the Angels.” They (the sahaba) said:-“Allah’s Messenger(SAW) do you also have a jinn companion?”. Thereupon he (SAW) said:-“ Yes, but Allah helps me against him, and so I am safe, as he only commands me to do good.” Ref Sahih Muslim, 2814 Ad-Darami, 2734 imam Ahmed(1/385,397,398,401) AlBayhaqi’s Ad-dala’il(7/100) ‘Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, reported:- “ One night Allah’s Messenger(SAW) went out of my apartment and I felt jealous. Then he (SAW) came and he saw how agitated I was. He (SAW) said:- “’Aisha, what has happened to you? Do you feel jealous?” Thereupon I (R.A) said:-“ How can it be (that a woman like me) should not feel jealous over a husband like you? Thereupon Allah’s Messenger(SAW) said:-“It was your devil who had come to you” And I(RA) said:-“Allah’s Messenger(SAW) is there a demon with everyone?” He (SAW) said:-“Yes”. I said again:-“Allah’s Messenger(SAW) do you also have one?”. He (SAW) said:-“Yes, but My Lord helped me to deal with him, until he embraced islam.” Ref Sahih Muslim, 2815 Imam ahmed 6/115 Al-Baymaqi’s Ad-Dala’il (7/12)
