Her understanding of the collection, attention to innumerable details and awareness of contemporary art issues have been crucial to the success of this endeavor.
When SAFECO moved to its new corporate headquarters in 1973, it had senior executives with a devotion to cultural and community activities, and art was seen as a good way to enhance offices and common areas. The company also wanted to build an important collection of Northwest art, thereby creating a resource linked to a larger world.
