David Cesar Maintenance Mechanic II “My wife’s been working here 22 years, and she kept telling me what a great place it was to work. I gave in and now have been here for 11 years. There are a lot of fantastic people who work throughout the entire hospital-good doctors, nurses, Patient Access Services, all the departments. My family spans several generations here in Southeast. I was born and raised here and I take a lot of pride working here. I’ve been in the medical maintenance field for going on almost 20 years. It’s fantastic that the Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation puts up framed student art every year. In 1977 when I was in 3rd grade they hung up my picture and my Mom still has it, so that’s pretty neat.” As a member of the BRH Maintenance Department, David buzzes around campus “doing all typical building maintenance, inside and outside, from painting to leaky pipes to un-clogging toilets to hanging TVs to working on the boilers.” BRH sponsors David’s American Legion Post 25 Baseball Team. They won the state championship for the first time in 34 years in 2017.

Harvey Hildre 1929 – 2018
Lifelong Juneau resident Harvey Hildre, 89, passed away peacefully in his home with family & friends, June 21, 2018. He was born in Juneau in 1929 to Pete & Anna Hildre. He attended JDHS, graduating in 1947. Harvey spent his working life in the construction industry. He built the first hotrod in Juneau, while working at Dutchy’s Junk Yard; plus he had his own hauling business. After graduation he took off for Anchorage in his hotrod, taking a job with Matanuska Bus Lines. “My car could outrun anything but a police car.” He worked for Green Construction in Haines & Copper Center as a Euclid operator in 1949. In 1953, Harvey returned to Juneau to continue his career in heavy mechanics, and later as a crane operator. In 1964 he started Porta Shop. He worked for Madison Osborn on outer drive, moving dredge pipe and doing misc. crane work. In 1975, he went to the North Slope working as a specialty crane operator for Perini Construction. In 1976, he returned to Porta Shop, still operating today as a rental service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, during the Korean War. Harvey was a member of the American Legion Post 519 in Palm Springs CA., life member Elks #420, Moose Lodge #700, Juneau Golf Club, American Truck Historical Society, Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club, plus local historical societies; and most famously of all, The Douglas Bridge Diving Club. Harvey enjoyed warm winters in the sun with golfing friends. “If I can knock a center pin out of a CAT truck, I can play golf.” Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Pete & Anna; brothers Arnold & Edwin; and sister Jeanette Gould. He is survived by his wife Loretta; son David (Brenda) Hildre of Juneau; daughters Sue Ann (Mark) Johnson of Ketchikan, and Gail (Jerry) Niemi of Juneau; grandsons Kevin Niemi of Juneau, and Jeff (Kristen) Hardesty of Santa Rosa, CA; granddaughters Tauna (Jared) Hatch of Juneau, and Courtney (Travis) Ploos Van Amstel of Santa Rosa, CA; great grandchildren Tristan, Casey, Landon, Lillian, Bailey, Holly, and Beamer. Services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, June 12 at 11am. A Celebration of Life (one more lunch with Harvey) will be held at the Sandbar, 2525 Industrial Blvd, from 1pm to 5pm following the service.
