Interview with Paul Stickland
Interviewers: Changcheng, Ken, Elizabeth, Jonah, Claire, and Rachel Video Edited by: Ms. Caskey “Paul Stickland is an author and illustrator for children’s picture books. He wrote Dinosaur Roar! and One Bear, One Dog. He also wrote many pop up books including Big Bug, Little Bug and Truck Jam. Paul Stickland came to S.A.S to work with the students on an art project. We made animals or monsters using a few pieces of paper. You could simply squeeze them and their mouth would open! He also came to inspire us. Imagination is a very important when writing, so he came so that he could share that with us. When we were interviewing Paul Stickland we had lots of fun! He was always happy and really great with the other kids and I. He joked a lot and made us all laugh. Over all, we had a lot of fun meeting Paul Stickland and it was an amazing experience to be able to interview him. It is also amazing that we got to meet the author and illustrator of famous books. I hope I get to do something like this again.” -Claire

Abena G. Vegan, Dairy-Free Double Chocolate Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour) - ½ cup unsweetened dutch process cocoa - 1 tsp baking soda - ½ tsp salt - 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar - 1 cup earth balance butter (or any vegan butter) - 2 tsp pure vanilla extract (or about ⅓ vanilla bean) - 1 tsp unsulfured molasses - ¼ cup almond milk (or any other vegan milk) - 1 cup vegan chocolate chips
Directions 1. Preheat oven to 175°C 2. Sift together flour, cocoa, salt, baking soda and set aside 3. In a separate bowl, cream together butter, sugar, vanilla, and molasses until fluffy. 4. Add in non-dairy milk to wet mix and mix until well combined. 5. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. 5. Scoop ¼ cup of cookie dough per cookie. Roll it into a ball 6. Flatten the cookie slightly onto un-greased cookie sheets. 7. Bake for 10-13 minutes 8. Cool cookies on baking sheet for about 5 minutes 9. Transfer to a cooling rack for another 10-15 minutes 10. Gobble up all the cookies and enjoy!

CHERRY TOMATO WITH BACON First get some toothpicks Get some bacon And cherry tomatoes Wash the tomatoes Cut the bacon into 3 pieces Roll the cherry tomato and the bacon(cutted)together Pick the toothpick through the tomato and the bacon (you don't need salt) Use an air fryer or pot Airfryer: Brush the oil on the bottom of the airfryer And the tomato and the bacon Cook about 8 minutes Pot: Same thing as the airfryer

Butter slime recipe ⅓ corn starch ¼ cup shampoo One drop of gel food colaring 1-2 tsp of cooking oil Mix together Add small increments of corn starch to desired consistency You can also put one squirt of body lotion Glitter slime recipe Pour in white elmers glue into a bowl In a small bowl mix ½ cup of warm water with 1 teaspoon of borax until disolved Mix the borax water and water together for a few minutes until the slime form together Add in glitter Keep slime stored in airtight container or bag
M Fluffy slime recipe 4 cups shaving cream Food colaring ½ white glue ½ tsp baking soda 11/2 TB saline solution Couple drops of baby oil in a large bowl, combine shaving cream and food colaring. Stir in glue and baking soda. Add saline solution and mix throughly. Apply a few drops of baby Oil and knead until Slime is no longer sticky.

Rachel C The Lily River There once was a little girl named Nancy Johnson. She lived right next to a river called The Lily River. There was a spooky legend about the river. The legend was, a girl named Lily went into the river for a quick swim. But after a few hours, she disappeared. She was never seen again! Legend has it, that she disappeared into the depths of the water by singing a nursery song called, “I’ll Tell You A Tale Of The Bottomless Blue”. From there, she might’ve been magically teleported to a sea kingdom called, Aquacia. No one has been able to confirm that there is a magical kingdom named Aquacia but, Lily did disappear. One day, Nancy was pacing around her room, because she was trying to find out a way to practice swimming for her new school. She didn’t have a pool, nor a nearby public pool. There was absolutely no way for her to swim, except for the river that was right beside her house. She had heard of the legend of the river and she was really worried but, it was her only choice. She changed into her bathing suit, grabbed her towel and goggles, and headed out for the door. Nancy set aside her towel and goggles right next to the river, and looked down to see the river. “I’m going to be doomed,” said Nancy. She pinched her nose and jumped into the river and sprang out of the river as soon as her feet touched the bottom. “Wow! This river is really deep. I bet I could do somersaults!” Nancy started timing herself with a waterproof stopwatch as she did some laps in the river. The river was just as clean as the Jonebank River, one of the most cleanest rivers in the neighbourhood. Nancy forgot all about the legend and how she was so afraid of the river! The river was probably her dream river. When Nancy finally remembered about the legend, she wasn’t even scared of it! She was so confident that Lily just disappeared on her own, not the river. Nancy was going to prove it! Nancy stopped doing her laps and remembered the lyrics to “I’ll Tell You A Tale Of The Bottomless Blue”. Nancy got her singing voice ready, and she cleared up her voice. “Oh, I’ll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue. Oh so blue, and bright. Just like the night. Oh so deep, so much grief, all the heap of water, rising up on the shore! The light within, shines in, leaving deep scars behind. Oh I’ll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue! The tale of the bottomless blue!” Nancy stood up high and tall, in the river, full of pride, as she yelled out, “The legend is not real! The legend is not real! I just sang the song, and nothing happened to me! I am so bra-” All of a sudden, the river shook, just like an earthquake. Nancy gasped with sudden surprise. She tried to run out of the river but a “what seemed like” forcefield blocked the way. Nancy bounced back into the river. She tried to cry for help, but the forcefield blocked the sound. Suddenly, Nancy started to get dizzy. Her whole world turned upside down. Finally, she disappeared. Nancy Johnson was gone.

How To Make Fluffy Slime! Ingredients: ● ● ● ● ● ● ●
Glue (Elmer’s Glue is Recommended) Shaving Foam Food Colouring (optional) Baking Soda Contact-Lens Solution A Bowl A Spoon
Steps: The first step to making fluffy slime is to, pour the glue into the bowl. Next, add A LOT of shaving foam into your bowl, and mix it all up until it’s evenly combined. After that, you can add food colouring to make it look even more pretty! Don’t forget to mix it up! Sooner later, you can add 3 pinches of baking soda. Don’t add too much! Otherwise, your slime will never form. Finally, you add your contact-lens solution, to make the slime form! You now have your amazing fluffy slime that you can use when you’re stressed or when you’re anxious. I hoped you’ve learned something new!

What had he meant? Nyan knew, even though she wasn’t sure if she could say this to her sibling; nothing tac said was good news…

Nyan Cat stepped out of the kitchen. She held a big pot of chocolate pudding. “That took awhile.” Tac Nayn sat at a table with two bowls and two spoons. His red eyes gleaming in the dim light of the stormy afternoon. “You try melting chocolate that came out of the fridge in the sun on a stormy day.” She snapped. “I WILL TRY!” Tac Nayn grabbed a pot, put some chocolate in, and waited. His tail swaying back and forth in frustration. “Come and eat.” Nayn Cat meowed. “You can have a waffle with it.” She looked at the waffle that was Tac Nyan’s body. It looked awfully soft and dull. “I don’t eat them anymore. I eat pop tarts.” Tac Nayn said. He doesn’t eat waffles! I’m the pop tart cat! Nayn Cat thought. “You don’t look to well. Waffles will help.” “No they won’t!” Tac nayn spun around, spilling his chocolate pudding everywhere. He stalked off.

Tac Nayn sat in his room, eating a pop tart. He was looking at a notebook full of writing, it said, EVIL PLAN Become pop tart cat by eating only poptarts, not waffles. Then get black eye contacts. Get gray fur die, Claim i am nayncat, and take over the world.
Why Did I Write This?
He thought this was a great idea, but he wanted to make sure it was. He slowly padded out of his room. His head, and waffle, and paws hurt. He knew that if he wanted to have more power that he needed waffles, but he could not afford to lose progres on becoming a poptart cat. (Not the he made much). He knocked on Nayn Cat’s door. She opened the door. Tac Nyan looked around. He never saw her room. It was bright. The walls glowed with a light pink and blue paint. There was a framed drawing, crumpled and ripped. Tac Nyan gave a little gasp. It was a drawing Tac Nyan and Nayn cat had made as kittens. It was what they thought the portal to leave the home land looked like. They drew each other walking up to it. It had fallen out of his bag when they started fighting. He looked at the rips and burns. “You, you kept it.” he murmured. “Of course.” She purred, her eyes gleaming with joy. He wanted to be mad, for it reminded him of the time he had hurt Nayn Cat, but he couldn’t. So, he acted mad. “You kept the thing that reminded me most of the time I nearly killed you!!” He arched his back causing Nayn cat to step back. “I, I thought you w-would like it.” She stammered. “Well I don’t!” He hissed. He turned around and ran out the door, grabbing some poptarts on the way out. He jumped out the door, trying to take flight, but without a single waffle in the past week, he could barely hover. He hissed and started running, into the dark stormy night.

Measure one cup of glue and put it in the bowl. Measure one cup of shaving cream and ¼ cup of lotion and put both in the bowl. If you want color or glitter, add them now. Finally, put in your activator (baking soda and contact lens solution) in the bowl. Mix all the ingredients with your hands until the glue is not sticky. Now you have slime!
