The leaders’ responses were as follows:

1 Is colour categories still the best proxy for disadvantage? How do you define disadvantage?

Disadvantaged is defined as unfavourable conditions that reduces chances of success. That is when some people can benefit and others not.

The concept Disadvantaged is all in the mind and exists to benefit the privileged/advantaged.

Colour categories should not be the best proxy for disadvantaged. Education is a better proxy.

There should be no race inequalities in our society.

Disadvantaged people are treated unfairly because of their environment, background, etc while the person is not respected.

Colour categories can describe circumstances but also label people to not have the same opportunities as others.

2

1

Is disadvantage and advantage important in order to be successful?

No, if you do not have the right morals/mind set you won’t succeed even if you are advantaged.

The attitude you portray to be successful matters more than advantages and disadvantages but if someone has a better education than someone else they are advantaged and has a better chance on success.

Disadvantages are the drives to get advantages. They then use advantaged to become successful.

Yes, it is important as people use disadvantages to work hard and to be motivated to become advantaged.

It plays a role to the extent in which it affects other people.

Advantaged approach cultivates laziness.

3 If you are Government and in charge, how will you ensure that there are no poor people in your society? And no-one owns land? 

It will be impossible to fully eliminate poverty.

Allow no imports, start local businesses and produce locally.

Work for own money.

Government should maximise resources to create as many as possible jobs.

Government should distribute land as needed to use it to the advantage of the country (eg schools, farming).

Income taxes should be minimised.

Use taxes to build schools and other learning institutes to increase employment and to get rid of poverty in the process.

Impose measures to ensure even distribution of wealth so that everybody can share in a high quality life style.

Government should provide loans for development (businesses and houses) and money should be paid back when businesses are stable.

Education should be redesigned to encourage mind shifts from young age already.

Poverty cannot be eradicated but corruption can be eliminated.

4

1

Should all differences (male/female/white/black/rich/poor/cultural practice or non cultural practice/child/adult) be removed or should all differences be celebrated?

Differences celebrate diversity and encourage unity.

Differences make us unique and important.

Countries should have own emblems.

Differences are important for a functional country. Different groups of people should be recognised and they should be comfortable in their differences.

Recognise differences but eliminate prejudice.

We should find our strength in our differences and respect and appreciate everyone for who they are!

Is leadership enough to have a successful society – what if the leader makes decisions that hurt the people – what must then be done?

Effective leadership is important but a democratic approach is of the utmost importance to establish reconciliation with followers.

There cannot be followers without leaders and vice versa.

Leaders should be equal to followers as part of the team.

Everybody makes mistakes but the secret is to listen to advice, consider options and choose the best option.

Leaders need to be held accountable for their decisions.

A sense of communication from a leadership position is crucial.

Leaders should inspire and be role models.

The law of the country will decide how a leader’s actions will be treated.

Parent or Pal?

Immanuel Landman

Parents joined their children for the last session on Sunday morning. This session was presented by Immanuel Landman who dealt with the topic: Parent or Pal. Parents received valuable hints to help them support their children in their leadership roles. Immanuel emphasised the importance that becoming independent at an early age can benefit leaders in their respective roles. All guests enjoyed a tasty lunch before departure.
