About About Me
Education enthusiastic and hard-working industrial design student with a good balance between an analytical side and an creative side, which enables me to design really thoughtful and innovate projects and designs. I enjoy designing interactive products, for which I develop sketches, prototypes and visuals. My enthusiasm and determination makes me into a student and designer who is eager to learn and willing to work real hard for making good designs.

Hey, my name is Junjie Li,(also called as JJ). My hometown is in China Shanghai, a beautiful city full of adventures. Due to my own interest and to challenge myself, in September 2008 I started out studying industrial design at the Technical University of Eindhoven. It’s a good opportunities for me to experience different cultures and western design approaches. The openness of education here gave me a clear direction of way I could develop myself. My vision on design is to bring back the excitement, joy of share and pleasure to the users in term of interactive products/services. Specifically to enhance the beauty of communication. In my private life I’m very polite and easy going when it comes to meeting new people. I have many hobbies, I usually play basketball and soccer at weekends, I also like music and movies. In spare time, I design websites for acquaintances. I think I’m that kind of guy who is easy and fun to work with.

A new generation In-flight entertainment system to increase comfort level during long-haul flight…
Controller Free
Motion Tracking
Leg Detection During long haul flight passengers are suffering from prolong immobility which can cause several healthy problems and discomfort. I’m aiming to design a new generation in-flight entertainment system which allows passengers to use body movement (doing in-flight exercises) to control. This results into a healthy and pleasure way of interaction during the long haul flight. This system is assembled with two parts: One camera which
placed at the corner of the monitor to track your head and hands movements. And a sensor based cushion which placed underneath your legs, it can detect your leg movements and input as commands to the system. Together with the inputs from the camera you’ll be able to use various movements to control the entertain system. Basically the system will start when it detects you are lack of movements (camera detects your intensity),
but it’s up to you whether to switch it on or off. What it does is to invite you to a game which requires body movements and in this way to stimulate you to move and reduce discomfort

PSV Walk of Fame
Feb 2010
Bring the Walk of Fame to 21st century by the use of technology.
The goal of the project is to recreate the original Walk of Fame; bring the Walk of Fame to 21st century by the use of technology. The focus is on the football club PSV. Following is the concept description: The tiles of the Walk of Fame are grouped in a square in front of the PSV stadium (Fan Store side). Each tile represents a corresponding hero and displays a shoeprint
in combination with the hero’s profile. When there is activity from a distance smaller than approximately 2 meters the footprint of the tile will light up. When the user steps on the corresponding footprint the hero’s profile is lightened up. Besides to this physical way of making use of the Walk of Fame there is also a digital possibility to become part of the PSV community. Users are able to use their
Smartphone option at the Walk of Fame and access the augmented reality which is provided. When entering the augmented reality they are able to see messages and add messages within a direct way when connecting Bluetooth.

Waste = Food
Sept 2009
Stimulate separating plastic waste in Dutch households through changing behaviour
The project’s focus is to find a way to combine the technology of the companies Brabantia and Van Gansewinkel in order to improve the indoor waste streams. I worked with three other team members. We chose to improve the recycling of plastic, since plastic has a high price, is easy to manufacture, used a lot in households and there are no products designed for yet. The result
of this project is the Speech Bin. The interesting about this bin is, as the name might tell already, that users are able to interact with the bin. Users can do this by giving commands to the bin. Com-mands like ‘Open’, ‘Plastic’ or ‘Rest’. However, opening is not the only thing that the Speech Bin does. The bin exists from two compartments. One compartment is for residual waste,
the other is for plastic waste. Different commands open different compartments. So the bin not only opens, it also gives the user the part of the bin he wants. If the user wants both bins to open, this can be done as well. In this case the bin turns in a way that both inner compartments are opened.

experiencing music, discovering new music and interacting socially with others
This project aims to design a product and/or service that fits a plausible scenario for the future of recorded music consumption. I worked with other three team members and we designed a new service for getting a new music experience. The idea is that throughout the city there will be placed (electronic) barcodes within a logo which represents our brand. You can find these
electronic barcodes with a device (Smartphone in this case which has our application installed) What is nice about this device is that it can’t find specific songs which you are looking for, so each time you find a code - on the wall or somewhere else –you don’t know what song it represents. The next thing you have to do is make a photograph (scan them in) with your device, the
song will streamed from our website and play on your Smartphone instantly. With these songs you scanned you can also trade them with other people online. Once you installed our application on the mobile phone, you will have access to all the music you scanned and trade them for more songs with other people in the web community. My Skills
Sketching
Sketching is a fast and clear way to communicate ideas and concepts. I’ve spent quite some time to improve my sketching skills. I think for now I’m able to communicate ideas in form of sketches and make good drawing to present the final concept.
2D&3D Visualization
Visualization skill is highly useful when exploring forms and presenting high quality work. I’m able to use such softwares like “sketchify“ “Sketch up“ “Solidworks“ to quickly express my ideas.
Prototyping & Basic Electronics
Electronics plays an important role in our department. It is extremely helpful when making prototypes. being familiar with the basics of electronics can be handy in many perspectives, for instance when collaborating with an electrical engineer, or when researching design solutions within this field.
User Reseach
Creative Thinking
Analyzing & Modeling
User research is one of the emphases from ID education in TU/e. Completed two assignments, I’m able to apply some research methods to find out what people need/ want beyond their answers. Most of the time, user are involved in my projects from the beginning to the end.
Being creative is one of the most important attributes for designers. From the class, I learned different methods to think out of the box. In real life, I experience multiply cultures, which broaden my visions and result in interesting designs.
I develop myself to solve problems in scientific approaches. Thus I learned to use graphs, diagrams to explain the concept and modeling the complexities. On the other side, I’m pro-active in acquiring new knowledge and learning new skills. My critical attitude makes me want to dig into problems and work out the complexities. I see it not only as a challenge, but also a way to grow as a all-round designer.
