DESERTS ARCTIC REGION

SAVANNAHS

They are usually hot and dry but it rains in the summer when it's humid. For this reason plants grow well in summer. It's difficult for animals to find water during the rest of the year. Typical animals: zebras, giraffes, gazelles and lions.

It's very cold and it usually snows. There are no trees and it is a habitat for the Arctic fox and polar bears. These animals have thick, white fur for protection and camouflage.

They are hot and dry.Cacti grow there.Nocturnal animals live there. They sleep in the day and are active at night.Scorpions and spiders also live in the desert.

TEMPERATE FORESTS TROPICAL RAINFORESTS

They are both warm and cool in summer and cold in winter. They can have bushes, grasses, and deciduous or evergreen trees.Foxes, rabbits, mice and snails live there.

They are hot and humid. They have a lot of rain and there are many different types of tree, bushes and grasses.Parrots, monkeys and frogs are examples of animals.

HABITAT It is a specific place with different conditions where living things live

WATER HABITATS Living things can live in the water and on land. There are saltwater habitats and freshwater habitats.

SALTWATER HABITATS

FRESHWATER HABITATS

Oceans and seas are saltwater habitats. Many invertebrates animals such as octopus and jellyfish live there. There are also fish and mammals such as dolphins and whales. Some animals are herbivores and eat seaweed or plankton and others are carnivores.

Rivers and lakes are freshwater habitats. The plants and animals that live in and around them interact with each other and their habitats.

INTERACTION IN ECOSYSTEMS

A group of the same living thing that live in the same place at the same time is called a population. When these populations interact with each other, they form a community. When communities interact with other communities and their surroundings, they form an ecosystem

THE FOOD CHAIN

In an ecosystem, living things interact with each other and their habitat to get food.

Plants do the photosynthesis. They are PRODUCERS

Animals can't make their own food so they eat plants and other animals. They are CONSUMERS

When living things die, they provide food for DECOMPOSERS,such as fungi and worms. These decomposers clean the dead material and give nutrients back to the soil.Plants need these nutrients to make their own food, and so the process starts again.
