Synthesized atmosphere / gardening market-scape A city is formed with variety kinds of architectural elements. Dongdaemun shoe complex A is also formed by complicated architectural elements. Cheonggye-cheon, which is the most important element, helped organizing the city around it, maintaining the “identity” of the city. It contains the “identity” of linear feature that goes from the east to the west of Seoul and that gene made architectural surroundings such as buildings, roads, and green areas around the Choenggyecheon. Dongdaemun shoe complex A clearly shows the linear form of architecture made by the “identity” of Cheonggye-cheon too. This renovation project ‘Synthesized Atmosphere’ starts from this linear “identity” of Dongdaemun shoe complex. Through the re-exploration of these spatial features that the linear buildings have, we can re-illuminate the shoe complex which was slummy before. This is an investigation of implied architectural language and an opportunity to restruct the market space by discovering possibilities of restricted area.

Linear identity / cheonggye-cheon A city was formed by block founded old Cheonggye-cheon. The city has "linear identity" by Cheonggye-cheon. A surrounding Cheonggye-cheon modified in present, but "linear identity" cherished. These identity is showned by linear building, building arrangement, road. It clearly shows the linear building in site within 500m among them. The surrounding Cheonggye-cheon will be managed by 4 district zones. Voluntary renovation zones including site will be managed small free parcel while keep the existing facilities. Cheonggye-cheon is maintained linear identity continuously. After Cheonggye-Cheon voluntary renovation preservation redevelopment comprehensive renovation

Linear building / dongdaemun A buildings following Cheonggye-cheon, near Dongdaemun clearly shows the "linear identity". The buildings reflecting those characteristics have different volumes and scales, but they all have linear form. These linear buildings have limits to space. For example, similar space composition, a middle corridor, core arrangement, light, block out of the view. Site should maximize the quality of the space in "linear building" by linear identity to overcome the limits to space.

Atmosphere / dongdaemun shoe complex Nearby the site, the center of the fashion markets has formed a crowded whole sale and retail commercial district. Large floating population with narrow road directs the crowded atmosphere. Upper zone of the site has small scaled residences are concentrated, but lower zone of the site has large scaled commercial are distributed. Also due to distribution of variety kinds of programs, each facility has wide range ages of user and times of use. The site of high building density has urbanely disadvantageous space like lighting, traffic, distribution, transfer, etc.

Hightened public space / garden Cheonggye-cheon improves the urban environment while improving the urban landscape and providing rest space by create a green belt. In urban planning Cheonggye-cheon of green space gives a positive effect. The positive effect apply inside too. This project realizes 'Hightened public space' of the environment in building to the height of value in interior space. Spatial limitations in linear buildings is overcomed through 'condensed the environment'. This is a prototype of a linear building around Cheonggye-cheon by elements forming an urban environment.

Linear space organization / roof The existing roof transforms inverted triangular form by condensed the environment as architectural tools. The interior of a building is imagined through basic unit of section. Each section are imagined how directing space by architectural tools. Another atmosphere in space is directed through presenting a different section among basic unit of sections. Through exploration of linear slab condensed the environment and pedestrian circulation in building, we concentrate how to Disentangled characteristics of linear space. This study shows how linear building would harmony with surroundings.

Conceptual section Through the basic unit of section, how accepting the air from nature and directing the interior space.

Conceptual plan Through arrangement of linear garden to the origin plan, how directing detailed interior space and a relationship with around buildings.

Systemic island / sustainable urban agriculture Korea has experienced radical modernization and industrialization for past fifty years. The trace of urban expansion severely decreased greens and squeezed density. And this caused many environment and urban problem. This problem requires the 'New Urban Type'. It combines previous green area and urban system by suggesting urban farm in Annyeong-dong, Hwaseong-si. This can discover the new typology of agricultural industries and produce more greens. Furthermore, we propose a new sustainable urban planning.

Urbanization in agriculture Previous Annyeong-dong, farming village consist of housing, farm and water. This shows that urbanization is in progress. Annyeong-dong has more than 70% of a green rate which is composed of farmland. Farmland is being used as rice farming, dry-field farming, fruit farming, flower farming. Of these, rice farming has the most rate of representation. Farmland was made by Hwangguji-chun located site on the right. Rivers and waterways flowing out from Hwangguji-chun continuously supply the water needed for farming. It is also being used water for living and ultimately led to a reservoir. To a center of the site, Annyeong-dong except the green has residential area to the top, Industrial facilities to the bottom and educational facilities, commercial facilities, cultural assets around site. Through the current situation of these Annyeongdong, site make two major axis. One is nature axis, which flow with previous water from Hwangguji-chun. This axis is an important fuction in farming village to ensure sustainable agriculture within the site. Another is urban axis, which flow with previous road. This axis is an important element of the city activity. Urbanization in progress through the two axes, Annyeong-dong may propose a new urban environment to maintain an agricultural village.

Water / urban agriculture This diagram figure that water circulation when agriculture applied to urban. The outside of the circle is represents supplied, the inside of circle represents the amount of demand. water is supplied In the existing stream in a site. The supplied water used as 'living water' 'agriculture water' 'industrial water' in the city. And water used for a variety of purposes flows back into rivers after constant process. The water purification system is applied between each of the process. As it follows, Added water to the pump stored in the tank through a constant process of the first, the second, and the third constant process After the water is recycled through the necessary disinfection, UV filters, quarterly atmolysis. Agriculture is applied to urban through the water cyculation.

Light / urban agriculture Light is the most important factor for all life on earth. Therefore, for both people and plants it should be evenly transmitted light. In order for agriculture or human activities within the city requires understanding the flow of light. The use of light in the activity of the person is dependent on the direction and position of the building which is different location depending on the season and time. And the angle of the incoming light utilization also should change. Distance and angle must specified the in order to properly distribute the light when buildings are gathered. When the minimum angle of 37 degrees as you can see in the above graphs and diagrams can give calculates the distance between the building and the building. In fact, these elements can be seen that the use of light for people.

Workability / urban agriculture This diagram is for confirming the relationship between agriculture and agriculture implement, number of agriculture implement and area in urban city. You can find the amount of implement used for agriculture on the right side in diagram. We the area needing implement. Show the algorithm happened between agriculture and implement, types of agriculture. And connect them eachother. We researched the implements used in these days and checked the number of people who can take care of those implements. Through this diagram we can find the kind of implement depending on the agriculture type and could apply the area of implement.

Area / urban agriculture This diagram is about the needed area and production when agriculture is applied to urban city. You can find that 25% of total area situated in hwa seo dong (689,532,230) is being used as farm field. We need to confirm the area and production establishing standards because of various species and crops. Decide to find the production of various crop which is produced on the standard area. Express 1000ton as one square to understand visually easily. This data based on area and production of Korea total agriculture area and production. We make sure that there are various output of crop as a result and this diagram could be used as reference about area and production as well.

Urban platform / new paradigm of urban landscape Currently the urban district units plan is not plan to connect districts with each other and put the diversity of the city. Through this phenomenon, a urban landscape shows up in urban environment formed a variety of infrastructure. Urban landscape is urban regeneration study as a design to put the infrastructure in the existing landscape. This is potential to transition the paradigm and proposed as an architectural tool for a sustainable future. Traffic infrastructure which is only responsibility of traffic function is used as a way to realize this. This is way to redefine place as stage function to hold the activities of people. Through construction of new infrastructure, this is extending the urban network and connecting the urban flow. This project desire proposal of new place in city and reconstitution of urban environment.

This analysis is to confirm the probability of urban landscape in Han River Park environment. Seoul currently has 21 bridges. Data of each bridges are a motivation to have infrastructure other than a function of the traffic. Traffic on the Han River bridge shows the probability to have a communication with the urban network. The Han River Renaissance project shows a communication with nature. Facilities around the bridge works as a component that can form a new infrastructure. In addition, the symbolism in Seoul influences accessibility and mobility. Infrastructure around the Mapo Bridge certainly shows the potential of the urban landscape. Yeouido is properly put out Han River Park in urban network through Yeouido Park which is located in the center. This adequately responds programs such as the Capitol, IFC Mall. Mapo-gu has many commercial facilities. It is used as a specialized food culture street. Bamseom can be expected in view of the Mapo Bridge as a pure natural environment. But each area is not connected with each other. The project goes after the urban flow through the Mapo Bridge which form a new infrastructure. 1. 4. 7. 10. 13.

Urban network / conceptual axonometric Urban landscape is realized through the connecting infrastructure from an urban environment. This makes the sequence of the experience by forming a new infrastructure. Access from Han River Park to the Mapo Bridge consists of a slope provides a sequential view of the River, Bamseom, Parks, Skyline. Inside space to expand the existing observatory provides unobstructed views of the Han River. Path goes to the other side through structures covering the Mapo Bridge. This, as well as users is a dynamic gestures seen in the city. Waterfront leads a new play space. Arrived at the center of the bridge and interactive open space. This is the stage can contain a variety of activities in the city. The user makes a story rather than just traffic through each experience depending on the position. Each experiences also leads to another relationship being engaged with each other. Urban Network is achieved through this in Mapo Bridge.

Plaza / Void A void with uncertainty leads to the space of different experiences through the space between route and point.

Inside Waterfront Platform The platform has a waterfront that extends inside by coming down from the Mapo Bridge. This is gesture which have direct relationship with the Han River.

Path / Level A functional separation of the circulation is generated by the experiential separation, shows it to the level difference in section.

Depth Extension Platform The platform has a form that covers the Mapo Bridge as expanding the length of the observation deck. This is gesture which have direct relationship with the Mapo Bridge.

Surrounding Platform Separating Platform The platform has a separate space away from the Mapo Bridge. This is gesture which have indirect relationship with the existing infrastructure.

The platform has a form that surrounds the Mapo Bridge as looking from the main street directions. This is an interactive space where the intensity of existing urban infrastructure.

Outside Waterfront Platform The platform has a waterfront that extends outside by coming down from the Mapo Bridge. This is gesture which have direct relationship with the Han River.

Building / Function The new space which is found in bridge have appropriate functions in environment.

Width Extension Platform The platform has a form that covers the Mapo Bridge as expanding the width of the observation deck. This is gesture which have direct relationship with Mapo Bridge. Sculpture / Symbol The new symbol applies as a attractive element to build a new place, shows dynamic gesture in city.

Reconstitution / Library The existing observatory infrastructure is reconstructed. This is not mean a simple scale expansion of space. Through a skip floor, everyone has an expanded view as in the expansion space.

Adaption / Pool A infrastructure adapts to the Han River. This suggests a new space to use the water. The space divided by the program is also used in the external infrastructure. This leads to another experience from the outside.

Potention / Sauna A new infrastructure experiences a potential Bamseom infrastructure. This leads to the existing experience actively. In a tranquil space without interfering the new landscape appears by equating water level and eye level.

Extension / Concert The existing bridge infrastructure is extended. This is a circulation system that is connected with sidewalks and bike paths. In addition, the atypical form suitably is directed interactive situations. The new experiences appears to use of existing roads.

Separation / Plaza A new infrastructure is separated from the noise and the location of the city. This is a medium to recognize and appreciate. Also sculptures fill the space to use water to create a huge waterfall.

Variation / Gallery The another way unlike the existing road is suggested. This presents a frame that holds the landscape surrounding the passing space and leads to another experience in the other side.

Making truck New open factory that reconstructing urban infrastructure We propose not existing mass production system but new factory system of individual customization. Making truck is a module of minimum factory and it takes a role as a device for anyone, anywhere. All people can use this truck such as an artist, sculptor, carpenter even playing children. Users can restructure their workrooms by assembling walls, expanding space or installing furniture. These environment also can be moved and combined each others. Then these module take a role as public space. This project sets a goal of constructing new city infrastructure and suggest various factory system. 'Seoul making truck festival' was held today. First, I saw the sight of making furniture truck while waiting my friend. A carpenters was making a customized production immediately. My friend hesitated to buy a hand-made cloth. Also, we appreciated some arts at the gallery. The gallery was made up by combining couple of trcuks in a row. After appreciating it. We enjoyed the band performance. Stage was the middle space of two truck that were combined side by side. The temporary seats were installed in front of stage. After seeing the performance, we had a meal simple at a food truck. It was a really funny day.'
